Pretty amazing, albeit a bit minty in colour. Maybe if we all get one, we can have an Ozbargain meetup in Alice Springs.

Updated post with a few extras boss :)

    • Added some colours to the title, because somehow I think not everyone wants a mint green bike, and it's not directly obvious that other colours are available :)
The free lock and pump is perhaps also worth adding to the title…

    • Yeah right, because K-mart will assemble it and service it as many times as you want in the first 12 months…

Research please, before casually dismissing a deal that is actually quite good value.

      • +1

Yes its a good deal, keeping the purpose in mind.
But the $99 k-mart BSO makes a better bike. At least it has more than one gear for a start!

        • EDIT

Comment removed - I didn't realise how old this post was.

China is where they make most things. If you want something made in an european country or Australia, go ahead and don't complain about paying more than the $149 price tag.

It's like comparing apples with oranges. You get what you pay for.

Housemate has this exact model. Has had it for about 2 years and it's covered in rust. Weighs a lot too, not something you'd want to carry up a set of stairs at the train station every day.

  • Also they give you 10% VIP discount card after first purchase. May be if someone has it from previous purchase.

What makes this bikes gender a female?

    • Size, I believe.

      the basket

    • +15

The FRAME… no cross bar on bikes for females.

This is probably so they don't expose their panties whilst flipping a leg over.

Of course, if the rider is vintage as well, then everyone within a 10km radius would look away so there'd be no chance of copping an eyeful.

+1 for use of the word panties.

Don't forget to stop by Aldi, they have cycling gear on sale (last week).

according to the description on the site:
"Singlespeed gearing is simple, elegant and effortless to use."… unless you happen to want to ride it up a hill, then not so effortless.

With these cheap Reid bicycles you get what you pay for (I am not a fan). A friend of my owned this bike. The rubber on the tyres perished within a year. The bike is also quite heavy and not pleasant to ride. After hardly ever using it, she has bought a new bike to replace it. In the long run it would be cheaper to get a better, more expensive bike.

    • +1

Yeah it has a steel frame.

Have to agree with Peter Pan and give a Warning. These bikes look very stylish, but are a definitely a very bad buy. They are very unpleasant to ride, cheaply made, and even the pedal fell off. I mean the pedal! They get you in because they look so stylish, but practically speaking they are not good. My advice, pay a bit more, get a second hand better bike from gumtree and go have fun :/

Which brands/models would you recommend? I'm after just a daily driver.

      • I have the 'Urban 7' flat bar road bike ($300) from Samson Cycles in Brusnwick . Very happy with it. The bike is 3 years old and still going. It needs a bit of maintenance, but I expect that after replacing the tyres and brake pads that it should carry on - the frame is still in good nick. Only weakness: the peddles broke after a year, it was an easy fix for about $20 for new stronger plastic peddles.

Samson Cycles have a new version of the Urban 7 for $330. I expect that it is good value for money, but haven't seen it.

*Forgot I am not posting on a Melbourne forum… Samson Cycles do deliver, but it is always best to have a look and a ride before buying.

        • As someone who owns 8 bikes, does all my own maintenance and has a lot of friends working for bike shops, Samson are terrible na dprobably worse than Reid (The new higher-end stuff like the Reid Granite actually looks OK, but haven't seen in the flesh). I know people who have worked at Samson and the owner (who is a largely unpleasant man) doesn't even put grease in his headsets or bearings because he expects the bikes wont make it through a year. His business model is unethical, environmentally unfriendly and he's been chased off various bike forums for being an all round gross dude. Has ideas and some bike knowledge but is terrible to work with (has had many staff members quit) and is consistently rude to others in the industry. Guy seems to lack serious social skills. Try for yourself and see, but I'd advise people to stay away from Reid and Samson. Look for a secondhand middle-of-the-road commuter like a Kona Dew or something sensible on gumtree or eBay.

        • @dannyglover: which model/brand would you recommend?

      • If you live in Melbourne or Sydney it might be worth a look in Cell Bikes http://www.cellbikes.com.au/

In my opinion, their bikes are good value, (probably better than budget models by big name brands), especially in the frequent sales they have - up to 50% off older models. They are more expensive than typical department store bikes, but I reckon they are a massive upgrade on that level of equipment - you're buying a proper bike rather than a toy.

You'll be able to go for a test ride too.

The customer service is sometimes dubious by some accounts though, and I've had mixed experiences with them, but nothing seriously bad. If you have someone that knows a little about bikes it's handy to take them along.

Hmm its only got 1 speed. Looks nice tho, but think it might suck a bit with only 1 speed.

    • +4

7 Speed for $20 more. Maybe it's a better deal?

      • Very much so. Mrs has the 7 speed and it's pretty good. It would be just about unusable in a single speed. It's very heavy.

    • More robust though. Fewer things needing maintenance. Derailleurs can be fragile.

    • +1

Don't think. It does suck. Any slight climb and you'd be puffing then walking. You have no control. Sure a cycle in a flat park will do it fine.

  • have anyone received their freebies Light Set, Cable Lock and Mini Pump?

  • As the OP sstated, the basket and wicker liner doesn't come included in the price.
    $40 and $10 extra, respectively.
Bit of a dodgy picture that.
