Polygon Bend R9X Gravel Bike $2,999.99 + Delivery (RRP $4,599.99) @ BikesOnline

170

I've been keeping my eye on the Polygon gravel bikes, and they seem to have dropped the prices even lower, making the, even better value for a bike with carbon fork, carbon wheels and electronic shifting.

Was $3299.99 (plus shipping) last week, but seems to have dropped further.

ALX Gravel Frame
Full Carbon Fork
Rival eTap AXS 1x groupset
40T chainring
10-44 cassette
Hydraulic disc brakes
Novatec carbon wheelset

For those looking for a carbon frame there's the Tambora g8x for $3299.99 (plus shipping)

Plenty of videos online explaining the difference between the Bend and the Tambora.

Very nice, I've been scoping out the Polygon gravel bikes, but this one is unfortunately a bit beyond my budget. Just have to hope they can get the Tambora G4 or Path X4/X5 bikes on a discount in the future.

    • Regarding the Tambora G4, I see it has a white frame. I wouldn't get a white road bike, let along a white gravel bike, unless you want to wash it after every ride.

Ton of dust on my matte dark green Canyon. If you are concerned about a gravel bike getting dirty than maybe just buy a road bike.

        • I've got multiple road bikes. I like to keep them clean between rides. Same with my CX bike.

I've had a white frame, and never again!

So it shouldn't matter if the frame is white?

            • @brotherfranciz: Much harder to keep looking clean if it's white. You have to be absolutely meticulous.

    eTap groupset interesting…

This is tempting but I think its best to spend a bit more and get Canyon when they are on special.

    • +2

I don't think the value is there at that price point with Canyon, even with discounts. If you're willing a spend quite a bit more though, there's this https://www.canyon.com/en-au/outlet-bikes/gravel-bikes/grail…

god damn that looks the business

      • +2

They had that one but previous gen CF SL 7 on special last year for $42xx with many sizes, was very tempting

or this is still available but only one size

id personally prefer a Grizl, just cant wrap my head around the grail handlebars

        • +1

Agree on the handlebars. Just weird. And it makes it hard to work out the correct sizing because there's really weird stack/reach

Totally agree $3k for an alloy gravel with rival group set is a standard price imo nothing special for around $1000 more 25% than this you can get carbon and sometimes force or hex groupset too on special.

        • Can you link to a carbon build with electronic shifting and carbon wheels for $4000 then? Bonus points for a dropper post.

@prhino: Sure someone already did above but here you go and it’s in stock https://www.canyon.com/en-au/gravel-bikes/performance/grail/…

            • -1

@sludo: No they didn't. They linked to a bike that costs $1600 extra, or more than 50% more expensive and has alloy wheels.

              • -1

@prhino: It depends what your looking for but this is better value imo at $3900 with a full carbon frame, apex electronic gears. Why would you want carbon wheels with an alloy frame and alloy seat post doesn’t make any sense to save weight and go stiffer on the wheels on an alloy packing bike, unless you’re racing although the rest of the bike is not suited to that.

If you want a packing gravel bike you are going to ride for multiple days at a time or one for also using on the road. Generally speaking canyon bikes resell better and frames are made better check multiple YouTube reviews comparing the two brands.

A full carbon frame and seat post with electronic grx groupset and Dt swiss wheels is a much more sensible setup for gravel riding and racing (not gravel packing) https://www.canyon.com/en-au/gravel-bikes/adventure/grizl/cf…

@sludo: That Canyon is an ok deal, but nothing special. I'd go for the Tambora, which I also linked to in my post. Better specced than the Canyon in every way, full carbon and better value and much cheaper.

You're right, they're two very different bikes, but Canyon frames are no better quality than Polygon.

Resale value on all bikes sucks. Canyon and Polygon and Canyon are no exception.

@prhino: Wow, (I'm not the person you replied to) I didn't even notice the carbon wheelset and the dropper seat post. That's an insane bargain when considering it is electronic shifting and has hydraulic disc brakes too! Also love the additional mounting points so you could use it as a bikepacking bike.

If I didn't already have a gravel bike, this would be a definite purchase.

            • @brotherfranciz: Yep. Groupset alone costs $2000, and wheelset alone costs $1600.

  • Good deal. Once you've put on your preferred saddle, pedals, and maybe tires, this is pretty much a no compromises build.

    • +1

      Would be an awesome commuter

      • +2

I wish I had a commute that would justify a dropper!

        • Valid

  • 999.99 ? Just how ^&&ing stupid do they think we are? Worse, they are probably right.
