I just bought one for $1790, great tv. I would have had to pay delivery to Melbourne anyway, but well worth the price.

"In-store pickup only" bing ling changing for the worst lately, upping shipping costs & taken off delivery outside syd..

Just had a bit of buyers remorse over the 60" i have ordered from TGG but good to see noone has any in stock near me :)

I bought this TV from JB Hi-Fi during their special in November.

Tell you what, this TV is great and well worth it. The 'smart' part of the TV was quite slow until an update Sony pushed in late Feb, now it's blazingly fast. If you do buy this TV, make sure you update to the latest update or you'll get a little frustrated with it.

Colours are great and it's quite a sturdy TV. Games look very nice from both 1080p PS4 and 4k PC.

The iPhone app works perfectly (has around 200ms lag, but it's bearable) and the smart remote is very clever with the mic and picks up my weird voice without problem.

Since the Feb software update, I have nothing bad to say about the TV.

Haven't patched mine in a while, will have to check it out, thanks for the tip!

      • +2

I think it's about 1gb download size, so it can take a while depending on your connection.

The update also fixed my network not reconnecting if the TV was off for longer than a day

        • +1

I usually download them to a USB3 stick and flash them from that, way less downtime!

    • +1

I side-loaded Android apps for my parents, and they now watch all their absolutely 100% legal shows through the apps alone. Basically they no longer needed the old HTPC I got for them. I would highly rate the smart features of the TV compared to most.

      • Can you PM me the name of the apps please

        • I added Spotify to the tv as I was having trouble getting it to work with Chromecast. Kodi is already available through the play store and many of the add-ons are really great for streaming videos

      • Yeah can you also please PM me the list of the apps you're referring to above?

    • +1

Which app you're referring to? Is it Sonymote?

      • +2

It's called 'Video and TV Sideview'

      • I did it via usb last night. It took a good 20-30 min just for the upgrade after the USB data had loaded onto the tv (which was quick). If you buy the tv, d/l the software in advance.

I've been eyeing this TV for ages and tried on a number of occasions to bargain JB HiFi, HN, TGG's to the $1.5k mark without any success.

I was monitoring this TV on eBay over the last few days and none of the stores with the CTECHIE or C20TECH (suspended) codes had them up. Bing Lee must have only just posted this up. Even still, they only c&c so no good for someone in VIC!!!

Nonetheless, ended up pulling the trigger on the KDL55W800C from TGG's at $876.

Would have really wanted this UHD model, but end of the day 'settled' for the FHD version. Difference of $600-$700 between the two, and a 55" FHD for under $900 was a no brainer really. Also seen some comments on why we really need UHD at the moment, even though I wanted to 'future proof' still didn't justify waiting to see if a better for the UHD would come by.

Still, great price for the UHD for anyone that can c&c from Bing Lee!

    • They do post for $40 Express Shipping.

I have a love hate relationship to this TV.

    • Currently I have issues with the HDMI input connected to my TIVO dropping out every so often for 5-10 seconds
    • Sony soundbar making a loud popping sound when resuming play after fast forward
    • VLC app not refreshing media library after new content added to USB storage device (built in Video app is unusable)
    • TV makes a constant crackling (electrical) sound

Other then that love this TV.

    • +4

I had a similar issue with the Sony soundbar, i fixed it by lowering the optical output signal level in the TV settings and the popping sounds went away :)

FYI I have the 65 inch version of this TV but I'm sure its the same

      • Thanks for the tip… Never thought about trying this.

    • "TV makes a constant crackling (electrical) sound"

This is worrying! From where? speakers? behind the tv? the plug?

I was considering this tv but this type of sound would drive me crazy.

      • +1

From inside the TV. Kind of feels/sounds like what you would experience with static electricity but in this case always on.

  • Do people realise how close they need to sit to these to get any improvement over a 1080p tv?

    • -3

Seeing as how there is no consumer available 4K content at this point in time there is no improvements, if anything the picture will look more blurry since it is not recorded at the native resolution the TV must smooth the picture out when upscaling.

      • +5

Stop lying. UHD bluray is now available.

      • +2

My phone, 2 models old Galaxy S5, records in 4k, so you can create your own content.

Got this TV from the JB HiFi deal and had a problem with the touch remote control out of the box.
The buttons on it were working fine, but the touch area was not, rendering it completely useless.

After some google-foo I found that a problem might be solved by resetting the remote with a tricky combination of pushing buttons.
When it failed, I called the Sony’s support to find out may be my combination wasn’t correct.
It was correct and the remote didn’t work either.
The guy over the phone told me to do not contact JB and he lodged a warranty claim to replace a faulty remote through their internal system.

Fast forward two month and number of phone calls to a Sony contractor in Sydney, SSS Electronics, I didn't have the new remote.
The reasons were given, from “we contacted you and no one answered your mobile phone” to “it already has been delivered to you”.

I have contacted Sony again. Another guy told that this is strange and that the better way to deal with it is to lodge another case with them.
So, fast forward another two month and number of calls, I still don’t have it.

At first, SSS Electronics tried to understand why I need two remotes replaced, and that there could be something wrong with the TV itself.
After a week or so, they finally confirmed that they ordered a remote for me and… it would be here in 2-5 working days.

When it didn’t arrived, we moved to an “urgent investigation” phase. Now they send me a regular weekly update that everything under control.

    tl,dr: Sony’s support sucks

A side story. This TV was a replacement for another Sony TV which I bought in Costco two years ago.
It stared to show noticeable coloured lines over the screen progressively getting worse.
A whole return process in Costco took me 15 minutes, including queueing in the line.

    • So have you contacted JB about it?

      • No, I didn’t. Probably will do it after the “urgent investigation” would resolve itself somehow.
At the moment I am just curious for how it all ends. By now, I know all the girls at the SSS Electronics call centre by voice and most of their pre-programmed excuses has already been exhausted.
So, should be any time soon :)

        • +3

i'm having to deal with SSS at the moment…technician came out on saturday and diagnosed that the power supply would need to be replaced but trying to get the price from SSS so far this week has proved difficult, you wouldn't think it would that hard to provide.

Does this TV have HDMI 2.0?
Link suggests it only supports 4k YUV420

    • +1

Yes full HDMI 2.0 at 60Hz and 4:4:4 after a software update and changing settings ("Update: With the new firmware update PKG2.463.0010NAB, This TV now supports 4k @ 60Hz @ 4:4:4. To enable this, go to Home button - Settings - External Inputs - HDMI Signal Format - Enhanced (new)"). tested it with mine.

      Also does 1080P at 120Hz

After purchasing this TV and then returning it to JB a week later I can honestly say the following.
    1. Sony support is terrible. Especially the tech people.
    2. The HDMI 2 60Hz support is through software. Sony will not help if you are having problems running the TV from your computer with a 60hz supported video card at 4K 60Hz (their words, not mine) as it was not designed to run as a PC monitor(GTX 980). Argue all you want about how their new update is 60Hz, you will still have problems.
    3. The android start screen is annoying and Sony said I cannot get the TV to startup without first going to it and scrolling to find the input. Someone may have found a way to avoid the obvious marketing, but I didn't.
Seriously if you dont care about any of the above than it is a great TV at a great price. I am only relating my experience since I always purchased Sony stuff, and was do let down by them this time. Don't neg me! Im not hating

      1. Mine, with a firmware update, seems to start on the last input, without startup screen. Probably different if you turn it off at the wall.

I am enjoying mine so far, I haven't gotten to the pc issues yet. If you have issues have you tried the whirlpool forum for Android tv's, or AVSforums.

      http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2439884

      • Yep. Also pressing the TV returns to the last input used

  • Bought and paid for for deliver before lunch time today.
Got a call in the afternoon saying the item is on backorder from Sony and will be at least 3 weeks…
So I told them to cancel my order. Though have yet to receive cancellation email or refund. Anyone else got this call?
