  • Arrived. Gonna upgrade the RAM and the SSD first thing :)

    • What will you be doing that will require 8GB?

  • Anyone bought the 15"? If so, how much effort is it to upgrade the RAM and hard drive to SSD?

    • I have the 13" and the internals are essentially identical.

Time to remove back panel (10 screws) 2 minutes.

Time to replace RAM <1 minute.

Time to replace HDD ~5 minutes.

Time to reinstall back cover 2 minutes.

      • I saw a youtube video last night and it shows only a single RAM module. Can you please confirm?

I have a 8G SoDIMM from an device manufactured in 2012 so fairly certain it is just a standard DDR3 RAM as opposed to DDR3L. Is it safe to use?

        • +1

Yeah, you're correct……the 11", 13" and 15" all use the same motherboard with one slot.

The L in the ddr3l means low voltage, standard ddr3 modules run at a higher voltage, create more heat, and use a bit more battery power.

Many laptops support both ddr3 and ddr3l, but I'd confirm this will dell first (preferably by email, then if they say yes and something goes wrong you'll have proof of the advice given). If not, ddr3l 8gb modules can be had for about $50 anyway.

  • got mine and loving it, it super zippy and not as heavy as I though it would be, plus using the touchscreen always even though thought it might be gimiky.

Not sure I need to upgrade to the 8gb ram even though bought it from the 20% off sale for $45…..its pretty good just with 4gb.

only downside is the 128gb ssd and hassle of upgrading it, but good news is the SD card fits in flush and doesnt stick out so put a 128gb sd card in their and its got 3x usb3 as well, so storage not a a real issue yet.

GREAT buy and even better when I get TRS on it next month!

    • Claiming TRS too but I just realised there's no proper invoice included in the box. Do you have yours?

      • +1

They email it to me about 24hrs after delivery, its a 4 page tax invoice.
