This used to be a great credit card but with the B1G1F flights ending and reduction in points earn to 0.66 points per dollar (down from 1/$) means it's not really worth it anymore. The $129 Virgin gift voucher is alright if you can talk your way out of the annual fee each year but since Tiger is frequently about that much cheaper on a return flight anyway it's not really a saving.

If you are getting it I'd recommend taking up the offer for $0 annual fee and 20k Velocity points rather than the balance transfer though - see here

    • BOGOF was never worth it anyway… you can't buy a cheap fare to get another one free… you must always buy an almost full fare and to get another one free, a cheap fare must be available… ultimately ended up being about the same as buying two cheap fares without the BOGOF offer.

I liked it. It helps that I live in Perth so flying to the east coast is relatively expensive, but the ability to fly PER-MEL for $220-260 return with whichever flights I wanted (rather than having to wait for a sale, and then only be able to have the red eye flights and it still costing me about $300 return) was great. I can see it not being worth it if your regular flight is MEL-SYD or something though.

I'm now on the lookout for a new credit card which has a better points earn since that offer is finishing up.

        • Agreed - BOGOF was definitely worth it. Could often find comparable flights on tiger (ie. 2 tiger flights for the cost of one virgin), but i'd prefer to fly virgin.

Also on the lookout for a new card.

EDIT: and no you didn't need to buy a full fare. You could use the saver fare - just not a sale fare.

        • Agree, I have used the BOGOF, but it was only worth it for certain routes.

If you want velocity then the NAB one seems ok, has a $129 fee but you might be able to make that back in the amex statement credits, and they were running a 60k point offer for a while.

  • Similar offers which work out cheaper/more points but much shorter balance transfer time. This one as well

  • Just ended up getting nab velocity platinum for 60 k points lol

    It's not 0% if there's a 2% fee.
Effective Rate 1.33%pa for 18 months. But charged right up front.
