  • Is Futu Online and Shopping Express are operated under same company or have access to the same stock?

I'm only asking because I previously ordered SSD from FUTU but received it from SE (or SE logo on the packaging).

Also this very product (HP Adjustable Display Stand) was also on sale by SE trifecta deal from last month

    • +2

      Yeah they're the same

  • The dock only connects via a proprietary plug? (edit: no dock) And no fan right?

    • +2

Seems to just be a monitor stand with space for a laptop (or anything else) underneath. Not sure how it would be worth $199, but could be useful for $32.

  • This could be really useful for low profile PC's as well. If my laptop from them arrives today, I'm gonna buy this, as this looks really helpful.

    • +1

Heck, PS4 in the bedroom would work too.

  • Only works for HP laptop?

    • Docking Station only works with some HP laptops. But this doesn't include the Docking Station. It's just the stand, that should be compatible with any monitors with a 100-mm VESA mounting pattern.

    • Only works for HP laptop?

It's a STAND, you can see that it can fit ANY notebook or small PC under the monitor!

      • I think he's asking if other laptops can fit the monitor square where the screws go in- as you say, obviously it can fit any laptop.

  • +1

Made by Ergotron - here is more information on it.

    http://www.ergotron.com/tabid/65/PRDID/775/dnnprintmode/true…

  • So its just an ugly VESA stand, that does not need to be clamped to your desk? (but takes up a big chunk of it)

    • +2

You know of a better alternative for $32?

As far as I see it, once the laptop and monitor is on top, very little of the stand is visible yet it can give non-adjustable monitors greater movement functionality and raise it up optimising space.

I'm considering it for the space it will provide and that my plain monitor will be able to rotate into portrait mode.

      • +1

Just keep your standard stand and put your laptop on it, right under the the display, sounds like a better alternative to me.

        • +1

The stand on sale will allow me to rotate my screen 360 degrees. It allows to move the screen back and forth, without moving the base. Has a the option to raise the screen up and down.

My current stand does not rotate the screen, my current monitor stand can only move the screen back and forth by moving the entire stand, my stand only allows me to raise the monitor up by lifting up the entire monitor to unlock it, find the height and then lock it back in again.

$32 to raise my screen up without lifting my entire monitor, to offer portrait mode and to allows the screen to move back and forth. I don't think you know a useful product if a one smashed you in the forehead.

        • @FabMan: Go for that classy stand then, mate!

        • +2

          @pizzaguy:

          I will!

Shame you don't seem to acknowledge the benefits of screen rotation though.

Yes, these Ergotrons are spring balanced "Full Motion" stands. The position is not locked, it is all counterbalanced and you can move the monitor at will with a surprisingly light touch.

I don't think you know a useful product if a one smashed you in the forehead

It's probably just ignorance, resulting from people who do not understand what the item is. They only see it as a ugly stand, because the description doesn't explain what it actually does, and how well it works in real life.

A lot of people cannot comprehend Docking Stations for laptops either, and how handy and useful they are.

    • +1

Its so you can place your laptop durectly under the monitor

      • Most monitors come with a stand included which allows that.
Or you could get one of those wooden stands that raise the monitor above the desk.

If this has been reduced from $199 to $32, at least a few people agree :-)

        • Not saying id buy it for $199 or $32 (its been this price before during these ebay sale) but i do want to get one if i see it around $20 or under. Not sure how the laptop will sit with the dock tabs on it though.

        • +1

Screen rotation… Come on, everyone wants it, even if they don't use it.

        • +1

          @FabMan:
yeah :-) I've seen a lot of people with dual-monitor setups, but never using portrait mode.
I tried it once, but my crappy TN display did not look so good turned sideways.

But with monitors so big now, why bother?

        • +1

Most monitors come with a stand included which allows that

LOL - no they don't. Go and take a look at a monitor… then show us a picture of one where you can slide a laptop underneath it.

    • +1

So its just an ugly VESA stand

If you had ever seen Ergotron manufactured products, you probably wouldn't say that. They are extremely sleek, well manufactured devices.

The tilt, rotate and screen forwards/back of this design is particularly elegant and works beautifully.

that does not need to be clamped to your desk?

Correct, because not everyone can clamp a monitor stand to a desk.

(but takes up a big chunk of it)

It doesn't take up ANY space, since the laptop would otherwise be taking that space DOH.

Anyway, if you look carefully, you will see that the laptop sits back behind the monitor, even more out of the way.

  • +1

It looks rather deep, takes a fair amount of desk space.

    • It looks rather deep, takes a fair amount of desk space

Errr, nope. It SAVES your desk space.

Go to the link to the EBay listing, look at the photos at the TOP LEFT. Click the 2nd thumbnail and take a look at the SIDE VIEW.
      - Hopefully everything will become clear at that point :-)

      • That was the exact photo I based my comment on.

        • It's specifically designed to be "rather deep" - the deepness of the base is where your laptop sits. The adjustable arm then projects your monitor forwards towards you.

And as that photo demonstrates, the stand SAVES your desk space compared to having your laptop in front of your monitor. It's designed to be narrow, stacking the monitor directly above the laptop.

This is one from a series of stands that are made by Ergotron for HP. This one is designed so that you close the laptop and use a standard keyboard and standard monitor.

There are different models available if you wish to use the monitor with the laptop open. http://www.ergotron.com/tabid/65/prdid/358/language/en-AU/de…
I have a large number of the dual-monitor versions of this series. http://www.ergotron.com/ProductsDetails/tabid/65/PRDID/359/l…

    I use a phonebook as a stand.

  • In the past we were told never to close the laptop lid while laptop is running as that would trap heat that is usually lost through the keyboard. And now this is designed to run with the laptop lid down. Confused???

    • Some have vents to the rear.

I also remember fans used to rely on air coming through the floppy drive slots to be vented to the rear. Great dust magnets those!

  • The two picture on ebay are for different units - the middle picture is different from the 1st and 3rd???

    • +1

Yes, you're right. But there is more than 2 photos.

In the ebay listing body, the second picture is a flat stand that you PLACE a monitor onto. That photo is wrong, as there is no Vesa mount or adjustable arm.

  • I was pretty keen to get this HP stand until I was browsing in Costco. Costco is selling this exact glass top stand for $18.59 until 14 Feb 16
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CARRARA-HOME-OFFICE-GLASS-COMPUTE…

My problem now is working out how to turn on the laptop via the keyboard. The BIOS doesn't seem to support this feature so the laptop will need to be pulled out to be turned on. The HP stand will probably be more convenient for this but for the price, I went with the Costco unit.

The glass top stand is actually wide enough to fit a 48" Sony TV on top of it and a low profile Bluray player underneath.
