Polycarbonate Office Chair Mat (Carpet, 115x135cm) for $65 (Reg. $156) @ Matshop

20

Have been looking for a large polycarbonate (no smell, ultra strong, no yellow) chair mat, and they're crazy expensive. If you need one for carpeted surfaces, then this might be worth your attention.

    Why are these so expensive?

    • +3

The marketing guy who changed the name from 'Plastic' to 'Polycarbonate' gets a cut of the profits…

It's a step up from the usual PVC plastic mat you find at Officeworks, IKEA etc. They're touted as being a lot stronger, won't yellow in the sun, crack, affect the surface beneath it, and wont have that PVC odour. It's a big step price wise though. Oh and 5yr warranty (or 10 years if you buy from empind.com.au).

lol, it's only $20 more.. and still crazy cheap for polycarbonate.

      • lol

        You are easily amused.
It's only 44% more… Wait, what site are we on again? Oh yes, it's the only-44%-more-than-a-previous-deal-but-we-still-find-it-hilarious.com

…Aaaand it's still more than 58% off the regular price.

Plus $12 shipping to 2000 makes it $32/71% more expensive.

if you consider buying this please measure the thickness of your carpet AND underlay. spec says: Carpet & Underlay up to 6mm thick

I purchased one last year and it cracked on my carpet which i consider to be pretty average. 6mm is some short carpet and/or paper thin underlay!

Same thing happened to mine bought from Matshop from the last deal. They cracked just after 2 months of use.

Same happened with mine too poor quality.

  • For anyone interested I got mine from Costco, probably not polycarbonate but works a treat. Mine is about 140x130cm had it for about a year and no dramas yet. Cost about $35 and the hard floor ones were about $27.

    • Did it specify the thickness of the carpet it was designed for? I need to replace a cracked Ikea one.

      • I have Ikea and Costco ones. I think the Costco one was about $20 but I've had it for a few years now on soft carpet and it takes it like a champ.

Ikea ones have been ok but obviously worse quality and it's been relegated to young son use only.

I'm not skinny either so it's got its work cut out for it.

      • I don't remember reading the label about carpet thickness, but I'll try and remember to have a look if I am in costco today or this weekend. I do recall though that after a few months at my old house it had a bit of dip where my chair was positioned. But never caused me any dramas.

      • Went to Costco and bought a Tenex brand chair mat. It says suitable for up to 3/4" carpet. Very happy with the thickness and looks to be much better than the Ikea one.

Best to just buy a small rug if you want to protect your carpet.

  • If you only need a small mat for carpet, here's one at Kogan for $39 + free shipping:
