ALDI Stirling Robot Vacuum Cleaner $199

201

Noticed that these go on sale at Aldi stores about once a year - well here it is again with some upgrades (wall following and mop function)
Also comes with HEPA dust filters which is always good!

Comes with 60 days cash back return and 3 years warranty

Key Features:

AUTO RETURN TO BASE
The vacuum will search for the docking station and automatically return to charge when there is low battery during cleaning.
Do not use again until the full charge of 4-5 hours has completed. If the robot has been set on "full go" mode it will automatically leave the docking station to restart cleaning once charging is complete. The robot will work for more than 90-120 minutes after recharging before returning to the charging dock to charge again.

TIME SCHEDULE
Using your remote you can set the day and time of the week you want your robot automatically clean.
The vacuum must be connected to the docking station and fully charged at the same time and day for cleaning to begin.
When the cleaning is finished or the battery is low, the vacuum will go back into the docking station automatically.

SPACE ISOLATOR
The Space Isolator is an accessory of the vacuum which sends out a special infrared signal to prevent the vacuum from entering unnecessary areas.
It should be placed near the entrance to a room or area where you do not want the vacuum to enter

Purchased one of these 2 days ago, worked fantastic on our floor (mostly wood & tiled, with 1 large low pile mat). Only issue was after the 1st 'suck fest' the side brushes ceased working. Returned this afternoon for a replacement. Very happy with the job it does….will report further as to how the replacement goes.

    • +24

I bet your replacement one sucks too

    • Returned this afternoon for a replacement. Very happy with the job it does

so you are happy with having to return a faulty unit?! I don't understand…

      • +14

Why would they not be happy?? Every manufacturer has their share of dud units it's how they deal with those duds that makes the difference and Aldi's policy for returns is about the best there is.

        • I wouldn't say it's the best. Large department stores will just take the offending unit and replace it within 12 months, whereas Aldi will make you deal with the manufacturer if it's more than a couple of months old.

They do as little as they're legally obliged to, but they're a discount chain in Australia.

        • @macrocephalic: I beg to differ, while I am not saying they are the best they are definitely up there. 3 month no questions asked change of mind policy, are any other retailers offering that? No major retailer has a policy to simply change a product over within 12 months, they may choose to do so with small apps as it is more cost effective for the likes of toasters but try that with a fridge. Aldi is the manufacturer of most of its electronics(OEM stuff I know) so they do not refer you to the manufacturer they will refer you to their service agents and that is the same process as any electronics retailer/manufacturer. From what I have read their service agents are not the greatest.

        • @Mleolv426: I've only had to return one thing to Aldi, a coffee machine and I couldn't just take it to the store, I had to ring them up, have someone come and collect it (IIRC) then had to wait a significant time for it to be fixed, then sent back to me, etc. There were a number of calls made to ask why it was taking so long.

I worked for a long time at Kmart when I was younger. If someone had come in with the same issue then, we would have just taken the old item, credited it, and run through the purchase of a new item from the shelf.

Most of the things that Aldi sell are branded as their own brands, but that doesn't mean it's any different to dealing with the manufacturer, it's just that the manufacturer is owned by Aldi. You still can't deal with the store, you still have to go through the warranty support process with a third party.

        • +1

@macrocephalic: Have a flick through ozbargain you will find that Aldi is pretty good compared to others with returns, like I said and you stated their service agents are not the best but I think you will find most service agents are pretty poor. I work in electronics industry and can definitely say that unless it is the manufacturer themselves repairing a unit at their facility or on site be prepared for a bumpy ride, set your expectations low.

I have returned a few thing to Aldi for various reasons and never had any trouble at all. Try and take a TV back to the good guys and ask for a refund because you changed your mind.

      • Was indeed happy with the job that even 'the faulty unit did'. Replacement unit working even better! :) …..now well into suckfest 2.1 :).

  • So do they start selling them from a certain date, or you spotted some on sale, or what? Reviews seem to indicate it went on sale late last year, and are generally favourable. There's always the 60 day period.

  • +3

When's the sale and what is the deal specifically? Is $199 the normal price at Aldi? Otherwise this probably needs to go in the forums

    • This is the current 'normal' price, though they have actually been cheaper in previous years.

      • -2

The cheaper ones had one side brush. This model has two.

        • +1

The twin brush model was $179 originally.
Also, the earlier model had a UV antibacterial lamp, this has none. So as for feature lists, nothing lost, nothing gained.

  • Perhaps these were middle isle sale (special buy) in December as u tube reviews posted just after that. Was the stock new items for sale or had been moved up the isle. It is very hard , for me that is, to call up past special deals as they keep looping back to current promotion.

  • PS you do not want to kill the recharge battery? Nice price on eBay?!

    Stirling Robot Vacuum Cleaner

    This is great !!!

My robot will never be dirty again!!!

    • +4

But the non-vacuum parts of the robot could still be dirty.

    • +3

Now looking for a deal on Stirling robots.

    • If you are lucky they may breed. Once house trained one for each room.

    • Stirling robots are particularly hard to clean.

    my wife vacuums for free

    seriously r these good?

    • +47

      my wife vacuums for free

You need to post that as a separate deal…

      • +2

It would then be the morality of humanity if that deal becomes the highest voted deal of the century on ozbargain.

      • She's low priced and highly available.

    • +2

      "my wife vacuums for free"

That doesn't sound right, there's always running costs.

      • +1

        ur quite right:)

    • Sweet, when is she available to vacuum my place? My current cleaner charges $90 a fortnight.

  • I'm not sure how this is a bargain.

The first two years Aldi had these, they were $169. Last year, the last time they had them, they had gone up to $179. Now they're $199. (the current 'normal' price)

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/124674

There have been no "upgrades". They have always had a mop function. The only change is they used to have one side-brush and an ultraviolet floor cleaning light. Now they have two side-brushes. If anything it's a step backward. Also they seem to have new "logic" and they are not as good at covering rooms as they used to be.

    • +1

The most recent of those was over 7 months ago.

Can you link to a cheaper robot vacumn cleaner than has decent reviews and a good return policy?

It may not be the cheapest ever, but that doesn't mean it isn't a bargain now compared with what else is available on the market and it's likely they will sell out fairly quickly.

      • 7 months ago…. You do know how Aldi specials work, right? Fact remains this is the most expensive they gave ever been at Aldi and its also the current "normal" price. So it's not a bargain.

There are identical, but differently badged, units available from various outlets, most on eBay. All are around $150-$180. One was posted here in the last couple of weeks. (a little too tricky to do a search on my phone right now)

    • +1

Ultraviolet cleaning light - a must when travelling!

    • It has to be considered that the exchange rate got worse over this time also(I haven't checked buy over two years ago to the first post

  • +1

my local Aldi has these for $179 (Varsity Lakes, QLD, 09/01/2016) - they had about 8 of them on the shelves.

    FYI

    • +1

they had about 8 of them on the shelves.

At our Aldi, they are in the discount bins, not on the shelves.

  • I got it for $199 5 weeks ago, and used it half a dozen times. Not bad so far. The side brushes get tangled with hair (got girls in the house) quite often and you need to untangle. If you want it to go back to base I think it needs to be in line of sight otherwise it won't find it. I wish it had more programs other than the three it has. I used to think these things map the rooms in memory as they go around but was mistaken. Ow well I think I might keep it nonetheless.

  • I bought it when it was available couple of months ago and its been a treat! No more bending over to vacuum my apartment (mostly carpeted). The only issue is the hair it picks up gets entangled into the bearings and I need to keep getting it out a lot more for it to keep running. I seemed to have lost one of the bearings so its making some noise but apart from that its worth the money I spent ($179). I've never used the mop function since I think its useless coz we can't make it wet or use it on wet surfaces, so not sure what the mop does, maybe it should be wipe.

    • +3

the hair it picks up gets entangled into the bearings

      have you tried waxing ?

      • waxing our heads? no thank you :)

  • I bought one 18 months ago. Complete waste of time loud as hell. Spent more time fishing it out from under stuff and fixing its hair tangles. Better off just buying a Dyson v6 and doing a better job in 5mins than this would take 4 days to do.

    • The dyson stick v. gets hair tangled in the brushes.

Yes JV , it is a two person job, one lies on the floor, the other….. well you get the picture, and you must have envisioned it - how do I kill those brain cell memories.

    • I have both and a regular vacuum cleaner. I retired my regular vacuum cleaner (less than few months old) the day I bought this robot one from Aldi. And I received the Dyson V6 as a gift. I use the robot to keep my house clean every few days and the Dyson as top-ups on weekends or extra messy times. I must say, the ROBOT is my favourite of the three.

  • Time to make DJ Roomba

  • Its not worth.

Used it a month back and gave it back within 15 days.

I agree its smartly priced, but doesn't does the job (atleast for me, surface area: Carpet)

  • $169 @ aldi clontatf (qld)

Pay more and get a neato.

  • What's this 60 day money back return. You use it for up to 60 days and if you don't like it just return to store as per normal?

  • +3

$139.30 @ Aldi Eastlakes, NSW - They still had about 10 to 20 units, worth a try based on everyone talking up their 60 day return policy

    • Now that's a fantastic price.

  • Anyone know why such difference in prices between stores? My local store has them for $199.

Also would be interested in opinions from anyone who has tried one of these as well as a brand name (Neato/Roomba)? I figure if this thing did 80% of the job for 30% of the price it's worth trying out.

    • +1

Aldi seem to automatically discount by 15% and 30% (and 45%?) as stock levels reduce in a particular store. This helps clear floor space for the next cycle(s) of special buys, without having to send anything back to warehouse or other stores.

  • Is this worth getting ?

  • We call ours Archer.

  • Where are these located, walked into my local store and couldn't find any?

    • With the non-food specials, you know, the weird stuff. If not found there, then sold out.
