Dunno. Kind of keen, but doubtful of its actual usefulness.

Has anyone have experience with this contraption?

Thinking about getting it and returning within 30 days if it sucked.

    • +12

isn't it sucking kinda the point?

    • +3

You should return if it didn't suck.

    • Thinking the same thing. Some of the expensive brands get ok reviews, but this one could be an unknown ….

if it sucks at sucking then you should return it.

Cheap price. I wonder if they are any good. With warranty and return options I'm happy to try.

  • I plan to get one next Wed, it looks very similar to my iRobot which died a few months ago, and I reckon it won't work too bad on my timber floor. 3 year warranty implies some credits on the quality, and $55 a year isn't bad at all. My $400+ iRobot lasted just over two years, and I didn't use it much at all. Anyway, if it doesn't suck, return it within two months ain't hard.

All I've ever seen on these robot cleaners is that they are pretty poor.
BUT the inlaws bought us one as a gift, it was the $99 one from godfreys about a week or two ago, came with a window steam cleaner or something

Anyway, it's actually pretty damn good. We had a cat that sheds like a mofo and it does a brilliant job keeping the house pretty much fur free if we chuck it on once a day or so. It's only a very basic one too, it just cruises around at random. This one sounds alot better especially the alleged sensors for cords and stuff - we cant leave ours unattended in bedrooms, gets caught on phone chargers etc.

I wouldn't bother. I bought the previous release (a year ago?) to try, had doubts it would really work. It was too noisy, so you can't really leave it running constantly if you're planning to watch TV. It went back to the store the next day.

    • why would you be watching tv with a vacuum going? put it on before you goto work.

      • +1

True, I doubt one can watch TV in front of any working vacuum.

      • Because the point of these things is you turn it on and let it run free. I'm sure most people would not want to have to remember to turn the vacuum on/off when they go to/return from work. Also when the machine snags or gets caught on something like a rug, who's going to be home to set it free? But hey, if someone wants to waste their money, I'm not going to stop them.

  • Choice recently tested a few and none of the robot vacuums did really well. I doubt this would be any better…

People need to learn to live with imperfections and uncertainty in order to using and relying on robot. This may hard for some. Don't ever think robot can do as human being… They can not and never will. However they can do 99% of the jobs, the rest 1% is up for you to finish.

Conversely, people need to get off their backside and address issues themselves.

The reason these types of gadgets / vitamins / fat burning shakes sell so well, is that everyone is hard wired to look for the easy out. Not because they work. Same goes for food. Why cook yourself a decent meal when there's Dominos, Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Hungry Jacks deals all the time, right? What comes with this? Unhealthy living, an fat / obese population and a lot of SICK people on the horizon.

      • but how can I get off the couch to call a personal trainer when it is the fault of the fast food industry that I'm so obese?

though I just bought a book off the internet which will teach me how to lose kilograms just by sitting on the couch. So don't say I'm not doing anything.

  • Unsure. but just passed by Godfrey's in Westfield Liverpool, they had a similar vacuum on display for $99.00 but not sure of exact model number or features.

Edit: Just noticed it's already discussed above.

  • all sold out in the first couple hours at store i went to. only had a tiny section for them so id assume theyre just there to get (now disappointed) people in the doors.

    • thats how aldi operate… they carry minimal stock on their weekly specials, to get you in-store to spend money on their other stuff…

      Don't worry - you've just saved yourself $169

  • A mini review: I've got an original Roomba which has been doing a great job and thought I'd pick up one of these as the Roomba is getting a bit old and this one has some great scheduling features etc. It looks like the real deal, but it is not. The plastics are all hard plastics - you know, the kind that are sure to be brittle in a year or two (though it does have a great 3 year warranty).

The AI of this Stirling is nothing like the Roomba. The roomba actually makes good ground in covering a large area and finds the walls nicely and follows them (thats where most of your dust hides out). This Stirling just seems to roam about and not really do a great job spending way too much time in the same general area. Its a lot less like a robot and more like a toy.

If you can find one, and your curious, grab one and return it within 60 days for a no questions return - but don't make a judgement on all robot cleaners based on this one.

    Mine is going back today.
