Stirling Robot Vacuum Cleaner $169 at Aldi

100

It's back! You usually only see Aldi selling this once a year (usually on a Wednesday in Nov/Dec) so I'm surprised it's available again and this time on a Saturday (14 June)!

I own one and find it really good. Some people might find it noisy but for the price (compared to major brands), I'm happy to put up with some whirring and beeping. I usually just let it run until it runs out of juice then my partner and I play a game to see who can find it first.

[EDIT: this model does return to charging dock when it is low and goes off cleaning again when it has had it fill. I don't live in a large place so one round on one charge every other day is more than enough for me. ]

  • Does anyone know which 1 would be better? Aldi or Kogan?

IMHO I would say neither would be better than the other. You would be just wasting good money by getting these cheapies over say the Neato XV-21 which was available from Amazon for around $350. The cheaper ones will do a basic job, won't last as long, more maintenance etc. If you are prepared to go with robotic vacuums then consider saving till you can get a decent one.

Well that's 60 days of house cleaning done, before it goes back for the Aldi easy refund :-)

Probably best to be early as seems this sells out quick.

After a half an hour it had collected a respectable amount of light dirt and debris, and enough cat hair to make half another cat… and after emptying the thing and sending it on its way again for another half hour or so, it delivered the same kind of result… now enough to make a full cat.

    • Yeah, I went in at 8.35am Nov 2012 and it was sold out. Was curious how fast so I went to about four other Aldi and asked, seems it was all gone under 5 minutes of store opening. Lining up outside before store opens is a must!!

    • So it doesn't clean itself?

      • +4

No, that's why you should buy 2 - so they can clean each other. Pity they don't reproduce in captivity :-(

  • It doesn't auto return to recharge itself?

  • For those interested you can get the Hoover Classic this weekend at Supercheap Auto for $169 as well (20% off).

Not sure how it compares looks to be similar without the LCD. Only has 1 year warranty rather than 3 years also :(

  • Is it, well, usable in a moderately cluttered apartment or there's no point buying it unless you live in a proper house?

  • Cmon Aldi open up your promised stores in WA already.

Please take some of ours. My local is 2.5km away, but Aldi are building a new one 5 minutes walk away to save me the effort. No one needs an Aldi that close.

I have 15 Aldis within a 10km radius of where I live. No joke.

        • Now the McDonalds of supermarkets.

as usual there will be like 4 in each store and bought 5 minutes after they open.

    • I've walked into some stores a minute after opening and they've already sold out of some specials!

      • Reckon their staff get first dibs on sale items?

Back when I worked at Dan Murphy's during uni… we'd set goodies aside for ourselves (with the managers permission) while unpacking pallets lol. They were rarely 'rare' items, usually more fun stuff around Christmas time etc, but it did make me feel a bit bad knowing that someone else out there might really want this seasonal product and how unfair it was that we could just grab it and keep it aside straight off the truck.

Wouldn't shock me if Aldi staff did the same.

        • Sounds like you havent waited outside Aldi for these sales to begin. Don't see staff hoarding stock as an explanation of shortages. Besides, staff seem particularly uninteresting in the stock they sell, and can't answer basic questions.

What I have observed, when the store opens, is stock of items like this is in unopened cartons in view of the public beside check outs. Staff just get to their checkouts in time to open cartons. Often there is only 1 carton of popular items, so when that is gone, it's all over. Larger stock still on pallets is available from out the back - again visible to the public.

It's not a DM model of a huge range everyday. Aldi just receive too little to meet the demand - part of their limited stock Special Buys™ strategy. It creates demand to draws in the punters. If these were available every day, we wouldn't even be discussing this as a deal ;-)

  • I think I'd rather just do a quick whip around with the Dyson

I have pets and a narrow space under my bed which they like to hang out and sleep under, but I can't get good access to with a vacuum cleaner.

Totally grabbing one of these robots for that purpose. Can't hurt with the 60 day money back guarantee with Aldi - if it doesn't do the job well, it's no loss :)

Apart from that, I'd still use the regular vacuum everywhere else. Definitely agreed.

  • Picked up one just after opening. There was a queue of people waiting who rushed in searching for the stock which turned out to be behind the checkouts. I'm charging the little guy up now, will see how he goes.

    • Howd it go?

  • mines doing laps around the living room now. Seems to be doing a good job and gets right up to the walls

    thanks OP

  • Bought one too. Charged it up but haven't let it run loose around the house yet. Will see how it goes tonight.

Anyone else bought one? I'm interested to hear other peoples thoughts :)
