just wondering why adelaide is $100 more expensive than melbourne. we are actually closer to bali than them.

    • You will fly to Melbourne, Sydney or Perth first

      • flights obviously aren't with VB then, since Bali is one of the few direct international destinations from Adelaide.

    • +1

oh that's because Melbourne people are way cooler than Adelaide's … just kidding! :)

      • Summary

        • We advise you to reconsider your need to travel to Indonesia, including Bali, at this time due to the very high threat of terrorist attack.
        • On 17 July 2009, terrorists detonated bombs at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and the JW Marriott Hotel in Jakarta. Australians were among those killed and injured.
        • There is a possibility of further terrorist attacks in Jakarta and elsewhere in Indonesia, including Bali.
        • Terrorists have previously attacked or planned to attack places where Westerners gather including nightclubs, bars, restaurants, hotels and airports in Bali, Jakarta and elsewhere in Indonesia. Analysts judge that these types of venues could be targeted again.
  • with all the issues aussies had in bali, i wouldnt go if they paid me.

    • You so would, you could die tomorrow getting hit by a rogue bus.

      • How often do we have rogue buses in Australia? :P

I heard about a different issue that doesn't seem to be listed there.

There was a report on the ABC about rabies being out of control because people have dogs there, but not on leashes. Rabies has spread widely and the hospitals do not have enough serum to treat everyone who gets bitten.

Ahh … here's the article, Vic gov, Feb 2010
    http://www.health.vic.gov.au/chiefhealthofficer/alerts/rabie…

I think it's been around since at least 2008 and they haven't gotten it under control. Vic gov recommends staying away from animals whilst in Bali and getting treated immediately if bitten or scratched.

Apart from that, Vic gov doesn't actually say to stay away from Bali for that reason.

Yes, there are diseases and such, but you've got to remember that you're travelling to a third world country. I travelled there last year for the first time and it is a fair culture shock to begin with. Yes there are wild dogs around the place, yes there is monkeys that can bite you, yes there is no 'real' road rules and people pile up their entire families (babies and all) and travel on a single motorbike.

All that aside, our drivers motto all the time was "It's OK, it's Bali!"

Bali is a beautiful destination and I highly recommend it to anyone.

I, for one, definately want to go back.

  • We are traveling to Bali in April, we are paying $1400pp staying in a 4 and a half star hotel in a Deluxe Suite room for 10 nights in South Kuta on the beach.

Warning of Bali terrorist attacks isn't going to ruin our holiday the country is really nice and there are millions of things to do and places to visit.

  • guys, we are talking about bargain or not bargain. we are not talking about the security of certain country.
To be honest, Australia also under treat of this terrorism. Just see the bomb in London, are they from outside London?
Terrorism can be happen any where. We can not predict.
And what is the chance for you get shoot by bullet in Bali dan someone who lived in Sydney red area (when drug lord fighting for area they can control)?

    • And of course when our news channels only report on the bad things it makes the country seem much worse than it really is.

    • But we aren't paying to fly here … (that was a joke :P )

The security or perception of security is a part of the entire deal.

Well … there's probably a big difference in some people's minds between "under threat" and had 2 massive explosions targeting tourists in the last five or so years, where hundreds of tourists were injured and a number died.

I had a friend living in the suburb referred to as Sydney's red light area (working for the government before anyone asks). She and her boyfriend had no troubles, except for avoiding the occasional sleeping person in a doorway. (Though she said she doesn't go to the specific areas where most issues occur)

I'm actually neither for nor against this deal, though it probably is a good thing for people to be informed of what they might want to watch out for.

    • Erm … it also occurs to me, no one said they plan to go to a part of Sydney's red light area instead of going to Bali

      • sorry, i shouldn't mentioned just red light area, I should said cowboy area. where some mobs when they get mad, shoot their bullet to their enemy house and run away. and sometimes their neighbor house get hit as well. and sometimes police chopper flying above their roof at night.
        remember those news?

how many times we can found the news there is shooting in Bali within a year? compare than these 2 shotting within a week in Sydney western suburb?
