Kathmandu 3 Person Beach Shelter $29.99 in-Store or $10 Shipping/Free Shipping over $100

40

Available in-store and online. Comes in Red/Grey or Azure. Has a score of 4.8/5 in reviews section on the page! Compact when packed up and fairly large when set up; long enough for most people to comfortably lie down in and would definitely fit 3 people sitting down.

Saw a few dozen of the red/grey ones at Chatswood, NSW last night. Not sure when the deal ends but possibly 18/12/2015? Perfect hideyhole if you hate the beach but have been dragged there by the family for the holidays!

    • Comocean Tri Sunshade is a better deal

      • How so? I went with the Kathmandu/Retreat one because it seems to hold up to wind much better, despite being harder to set up. Thinking of buying another one so I'd like to know how they compare before I buy.

      • No click and collect available that makes it + $10

  • Now I'm confused. Which should I get!? :P

I go to the beach with kid/s and have used different shelters. Here is my experience:
would prefer the style ciab suggested, then buying this Kathmandu older style.

If you look at the photos between the two, the Kathmandu one has to connect the fibre glass poles, then thread thru the tent, bend across and tie up. Even with an experienced guy, will take at least 5 mins to set up. If you have kid/s under the hot sun, you would like it to be set up easily.
The one in ciab' slink only needs to pop up. Finish in one second to set up.

In terms of strength and wind resistant, most Important is to get some strings and plastic beach camping pegs, about $8 a bag in Kmart to tie down the 4 corners. No need if not windy.

The Cancer Council has a good pop up but very pricey at $100+ for basic which is not a bargain,

The best was bought by my wife from Aldi - it is similar to the one ciab suggested but have zips to enclosure the whole tent (for changing) and side pockets to fill sand in order to steady the tent. Have not seen it for a while. It was replaced with the weaker but cheaper version.

Hardly to see from the photo, but shelters in both links seem to have the weaker poles.
Good enough for normal sunny day, but not windy day.

here for a look of different styles.

Personally like the Caribee or tent with zip up.
