McDonald's Frozen Coke McSpider Hack - $1.50 (Instead of $2) 25% off with Bonus Cone

3850

So I purchased a full price McSpider and realised Maccas was robbing me of my hard earned 50 cents.

Process:

  1. Buy a Large Frozen coke for $1
  2. Buy a 50 cent soft serve cone
  3. Place soft serve cone in Frozen Coke
  4. Enjoy a McSpider (with a bonus cone for that extra crunch) for 25% cheaper!

      Water failure!

    • -4

Nice try. But a real ozbargainer would get a free large water instead of paying for a frozen coke.

Trying to get on the monthly most negged comment list are we?

      • Called it…😜

    • Hey, do you still get awarded "Unpopular Comment" haha

What a world we live in

  • +15

Also, try ordering fries and a shake. Dip french fries in shake. Enjoy.

    • +4

      Ew :/

      • +1

Google it! French fries and chocolate or vanilla milkshake. It's an actual food combination that works!

      • +1

Salty + sweet = works somehow.

Think of how 'salted caramel' flavoured everything started becoming a thing. Or dark Lindt 'with a touch of sea salt'. Or how some people eat watermelon with a bit of salt (or how you see watermelon and feta cheese combined in a salad).

They complement each other in some situations. I haven't tried fries dipped in shakes/soft serves but can easily imagine the taste working.

        • +1

I dip my fries into a soft serve cone.
Salty and sweet, hot and cold.
Will try shake next time tho it does cost more than 30 cents.

        • Pears in a salad with Balsamic vinegar

        • @Organised Chaos: Yes! mmm. Had a pear and gorgonzola salad once, with balsamic dressing. Was so good.

          Fruit on cheese platters too.

Order a cone in a sundae lid and you will get more icecream and no cone

    • +104

yeah but the sundae lid is a little on the chewy side

      • +3

But more fibre. Better for you.

  • +1

Add a flake too :) (bought elsewhere on offer of course!)

    Hilarious.. hahah

This is kind of like my sandwich hack, it's a bit more complicated than this though.
Instead of buying my lunch at a sandwich shop everyday I go to Aldi and buy a loaf of bread, ham, tomato, cheese and lettuce at the start of the week. Then when at home I make the sandwich myself the night before, every day of the week. The savings are massive.

    • +8

lots of work though, time means money.

      • If you consider the time you waste waiting at the sandwhich shop it's probably a lot less. I can't do sandwhiches for lunch though. I need something hot

        • +3

Mate the time you spend waiting in line at Aldi to buy all this stuff is probably the longest part of this idea!

    • +35

      Subway hates him.

    • +4

Is 'I make myself a sandwich' now known as a 'hack'?
If that is the case I have all sorts of 'hacks'…

    • +7

Hey since you're talking about lunch, I can help you at the other end. I know a great hack for toilet paper I learnt from Bottom and Adrian Edmudson years ago. To save time, eat the toilet paper whilst you're eating your food. That way you've already pre wiped.

      • +3

Kinda like my car wash "hacK" where instead of going to a car wash and letting the 16 year old kid install swirls and marring, I buy car washing stuff and wash my own car at home. See, I'm a hacker too!

        • +2

I have got a great hack for dry cleaning - see if you can guess (hint, it involves a washing machine and detergent). It saves big $$$

        • +1

          @BigTed:

I used to get my shirts washed and iron at the dry cleaners for heaps of $$$ until I discovered this one weird little trick…….. An iron with an ironing board, crazy right?

        • @BigTed:

I have a better hint. Become a nudist. No dry cleaning or washing bills.

  • +12

It was only $1.30 in 2014 when this idea was posted on Lifehacker. But the McDonald’s Frozen Coke Float cost $4.50 at that time!

  • +1

Also if you didnt want the cone you can just ask for the soft serve to be in a lid

  • I wonder if you can ask them to put the soft serve in the bottom of the cup first (minus the cone) then the frozen coke on top. Does it mix very well when you just stick it on the top like that?

    • +4

But then you are getting less frozen Coke, this is not only cheaper but you also get more.

      • +2

Added to that I'd like to see you drink it with the straw when the soft serve is on the bottom.

  • +3

Doing this when I knock off shortly. They're reaction is going to be… interesting.

    • +10

      I'm frothing with anticipation

    • Well that was disappointing. Where's the pun?

      • +1

No pun required. The result is clearly all that's needed.

  • +5

Really a huge savings with this deal. Now i can plan my long awaited world tour…:)

  • +12

Geez, was it only a year ago I posted it?. Didn't even know I was featured on Lifehacker!! :D

    • +3

At least they credited you (well, OzB)

  • This is what OzB should be about.

1a. Ask for a second empty large cup with it then half the frozen coke between the two.

2a. Ask for ice cream in a sundae cup and then add it ontop of the two frozen cokes

    Alternative:

1b. If they refuse a second large cup, ask for a free large water, possibly without the water.

2b. Most stores allow for ice cream in a sundae cup when ordering a cone, if not simply share out the icecream and fight over the cone (with yourself ofc, as we all know you're getting bother these for yourself and not actually sharing)

    If it's a friendly/flexible store:

1c. Some stores are completely fine with half-filling two large cups for you, saving you some time.

2c. Some stores MAY be fine even putting the ice cream in the same cup after doing the above, though you'll get a few weird looks…

Two for $1.50, rather than $2ea. You end up with about the same amount of frozen coke but slightly less ice cream.

    • +4

Ah, the McDouble Frozen Coke McSpider Hack.
It rolls off my tongue just thinking of it.

  • +8

Do shake and win at hungry jacks first. You might get the drink or ice cream free making it even cheaper.

  • Heh.

    Plop.

  • Oh man a cone has a very different meaning around these parts, i thought that since america was legalizing pot that maccas was suddenly putting it on the menu like wtf

    • Matching handle..

    • i thought that since america was legalizing pot that maccas was suddenly putting it on the menu like wtf

Might be time to slow down on the cones, man.

  • I usually hate these fast food hacks, because I really don't abusing things that are setup to be of benefit to the customer in the first place.

This, however, is genius! Not cheating the system, just giving people a serving suggestion.

Well played OP, and original OP.

  • Wow, hot hot hot

Really? So many likes just to save 50 cents on this crap…lol, you guys need to get a life ;)
