I grabbed one of their free offers a while ago and it's reasonably fast and is pretty idiot proof.

    • +1 for saying "idiot proof".

  • They are great except if you reinstall the application, the code resets you could lose the license. (ie. it isn't tied to your account) Happened with the free one at least anyway :(

  • Using the free version now to test it out…

ADSL+2 Telstra Sydney - direct connection average speed = 14 mbits download speed test ping 38

    same server again

Using this VPN (connected in Melbourne) = 8 mbits and ping 58 using

Using Optus 4G direct connection average speed 27~37mbits (mutliple tests) and ping 38

    same server again

    using VPN = 37 - 45 mbits ping 58

My question is can we use this server to use services like torrents?

    found the answer: https://community.f-secure.com/t5/F-Secure/Is-BitTorrent-all…

You can but not in the gateways listed in the article.

    $au39.29 @ checkout.

  • Got this last time from the free offer.

Wish I put it on my laptop as well. :(

  • Did some testing with speedtest and debian torrents on 100mbit cable. On all servers, torrents are capped at 5MB/s, while web browsing/speedtest is capped at 300KB/s.

    P2P enabled servers as below:

    Oslo, Norway

    Copenhagen, Denmark

    Toronto, Canada

    Madrid, Spain

    Espoo, Finland

    Stockholm, Sweden

  • Ok have to say this. I got their free deal and racked up around 1000 days free.I DID NOT reset the install nor reinstall or update . AND now its expired. WTF.

    • Same same. One day was licensed to somewhere in 2017, now I only have 4 days left.

MY guess is they caught on to the not so kosher methods we have used to get that 1000 days and have relinquished the deal.

Must say though this is THE most stable and fast VPN I've used (SO disappointed with the constant disconnects on CyberGhost) that I in fact will be paying for it when it runs out completely.

With my server set to Copenhagen, I can even run my torrents over it.

      I have to recommend.

Stable and fast is great - i have to agree, HOWEVER, changing how the deal works is very slack and underhanded - i wont be using them nor recommending them in the future because of this. Went ahead and bought via PIA for 3 months instead.

        • Understood. If I'd payed for the service I would be livid, but as I got those 1000 days by getting codes from different e-mail addresses in a round about way that I'm sure was not the intention when F-Secure provided the offer I cannot look that gift horse in the mouth.

I very much understand your feelings though.

Let me know in a few weeks how Private Internet Access as been for you in regards to speed and stability and the ability to run torrents OK? Just curious as I just paid ROUGHLY $63 for F-Secure for a year (which is about $23 more than you paid I guess????), because it just works after my TERRIBLE experiences with CyberGhost and their terrible service.

If PIA is just as fast and reliable as F-Secure I'll look at it next time.
