Does the usual home broadband $10 discount stack with this?

Would be good to have 10gb for $25 a month. Or will they take the $10 off first, then half it so its $30p/m? So they half the $10 discount as well. Knowing optus it will be the latter.

    • +2

      Yes it does

    • Heard the $10 discount is calculated after the 50% discount based on comments from previous deals. But need confrimation.

  • +2

Optus sound like they are getting 'desperate' with new customers.

just went thru the hassle of recently joining - a $50 plan month-to-month with 8gig - might as well 'cancel' it after this month, and then re-join for the half price deal ('stick' their new services only part - just stay off it for a month - I'll just swap out my Optus for my TPG sim)

    • +1

Don't think you need to wait a month. I'm also currently on the 8 gig plan.
I plan to port number out, and straight back again as a new customer to the 10gig half price plan.

6 months….there'll be another better plan then.

      • Let's just HOPE AND PRAY that the online order works - I had hassle upon hassle with Optus last time - order for a SIM and a pre-paid HTC phone (for a family member) - and Optus 'cancelled' both orders without notice !!!

6 months… 'half' price.. and then another deal…

GEE…… how 'hard' does Optus make to cancel month-to-month plans ??? there's nothing in the account - one has to 'ring' up to cancel.

  • does this pain renew every 28 days or 30 days ?

    • +2

every same date of the month

      • +3

Wait until December 31st and then signup, cause September, April, June and November don't have a 31st, shouldn't get charged!

    • -4

      yes

    • +5

Depends on your exertion level. If you work too hard, pain can get renewed every month especially in the upper body

  • +1

$20 p/m for their 3GB plan seems really good

    • no actually $20 p/m for 7 GB , and rest all unlimited even selected international too if you have optus internet

get $60 plan and 50% off for 6 months is $30 and after $10 broadband discount it comes $20 p/m

  • I assume "new" service means you can port your number in?

    • +1

live-chatted them - port ins are considered new service so all good.

      • I'm on the 8GB $50 month to month & am liking this. What's the deal with porting out ? How long do you have to port out for ? Can you port to an Optus reseller ? Anyone done it ?

        • +1

not sure about resellers but did this ported to telstra prepaid and than back to optus prepaid all this did in 4 hours time and no issues

  • -4

I think tnat are alre rhe half prices. I am trying to get the 70 plan and it says first month minimum spend 70

    • +10

      I think English.

  • Is this fixed term contract or month-to-month?

    • +1

      month-to-month

  • +1

What will happen after 6 months?

    • +1

you'll get charged full price if you don't leave

  • +8

Worthy of note - the discount only takes effect from the SECOND MONTH. So the first month is full price. Found that out right at the end of the sign-up process, but decided to still go ahead.

    • Strange. It was confirmed to the missus that it's half price from month 1 to 6. Full price month 7 onwards.

    • Via live chat seems the first bill is something like safe deposit and will be refunded in the final bill.

  • +1

Optus is really turning up the heat…FWIW, if the coverage in your area is good, they appear to be more cost-effective than Voda now, esp for IDD (Voda = unlimited IDD to 10 countries, others 120min, Optus unlimited IDD to 32 countries).

    • And I recently bought a bunch of Groupon Voda coupons !

      • Me too.

I keep a Voda SIM for international roaming….I find it much safer to take a prepaid SIM roaming, and for the occasional international SMS (Optus somehow can't SMS to my relos overseas…something to do with contracts between overseas companies and stuff).

  • +2

Pretty good compared to old voda fone, but I then think it Amaysim is where the truly desperate optus deals reside. - About 90% off for ∞ $3.34mth 5gb4G data (for data anyway/$10-Ctrl-40gb Telstra) & BYO Hangouts/Skype to int IDD. Thats 10x cheapr>

    • Has it been confirmed it's $10 total for the 3 months? Or $10 each month, for 3 months?

      • +1

Yes, whilst a bit of a shock that that sloppy system can not cope with compound months: apparently chat reps refund 1 mth credit 2 mths & charged $10 so that amount (TEN) for plural monthS does appear to be the case for any sign ups. Confusion may have come after previous promo (FIVER) refered normally to m2m/-each value. <90 days for new tenner one.
I've int IDD + 10s of gb's already so not about to portover & lower coverage.

  • +1

Unlimited calls to india/Vietnam suit me and my familyperfectly…not keen on skyping when I can simply call… Plus I'm already a broadband customer so I get the 7gig/unlimited plan for only $20/month. No contract.

That's pretty good value IMO - if something else comes up better I can always switch

    • +2

Not really a valid reason to neg a deal though.

    • +1

your own personal opinion/experience has nothing to do with this deal. fyi I was perfectly fine with Optus. I've used the other 3 networks as well.

  • +3

what's with all the sudden influx of good mobile deals :S

    • +1

Should be more of it. And they are still over priced at half price.

      • So wait or go for it?

        • +1

It's a good deal of you dont already have a good deal.

Can always change when the next good deal comes along.

    • Christmas I'm told.

    • Hard to know whether to go for this, the Amaysim offer, or even the Boost offer is pretty good, and it's on the Telstra network.

      • +1

The amaysim shows 35-20$/50% is objectively not that economic.. .
but then some with family, perhaps a lover, sitting in Vietnam- will best clean up on this deal. Use modern skyping (actually very good) remains perfect to my mind where i prefer to not subsidise phone bills for the few. Who will stay with this for one full year?

        • +1

          Huh?

        • @prhino:
temporary 6mo discount whether you've got specific need for extensive third-world calling. otherwise higher quality in local focused deal: 11gb boost, cheery Amaysim intros, google play/network Telstra, free data offpeak voda when relisted.

  • Can anyone confirm if you need to pay full price upfront when you're first going through checkout? It looks to be that way.

    • +4

Discounts only apply from second month onwards.

      • Thanks.

      • Where did you get that info?

  • +1

Any chance for existing customer? I'm currently having month-to-month plan… I can cancel and sign up but it's hassle and my concern is going back to the original price is more expensive than what I'm having now (50$ for 8GB)

  • -1

Optarse are generally terrible and their 'cutesy' brand image, advertising etc is just cringeworthy. Yuk.

    • +2

And that high-pitched comedian… Josh Thomas? He really gets on my nerves.

  • +1

Think I'll stick to m $50 for 8gb data, I assume once you leavcit to can never go back unless they advertise for it again….

  • A credit to the value of 50% of your monthly access fee will be applied to the bill each month and will be forfeited if you leave or change plans.

    • +1

May someone confirm its ok to terminate after 7 months once u get the credit for the 6 bills? I am only planning to go with the 50% off and terminate afterwards

      • It's a month-to-month "contract", no fixed term. You can cancel at any time. I just cancelled one after a week earlier this week (to get the Nexus 6P deal).

  • +1

So I guess no data sharing?

    • Yes to data share. Plus month to month rolling. Only caveat they haven't mentioned is the first month is full price upfront, but I have a feeling that they'll credit it back when we get the bill. I pay $19 with lyca atm and for $11 more I'm getting TRUCK loads more.

      Plus it's m2m so if I move I won't lose.

  • -1

This is great competition for Vodafails $30 pm PostPay, Optus has more data and hopefully able to cap data when it reaches limit

  • Thanks mate. This will end up being $25 for 10GB for me. Much better than the 2GB for $30 I'm doin' for Amaysim.

  • Telstra medium$50 BYO deal is the best now.You also get 7gb data PLUS $200 credit which makes it $33 a Mont h really PLUS you get $240 credit to buy a phone/tablet from Telstra.

    • +1

      12 month contract- no thanks

There r crazy offers at the moment…. Would hate to be locked into 12 months

      • 12 months is not long, you can't beat telstra phone reception, and I doubt you'll get $33 with 7gb monthly plus $240 discount on new phone.

        • +1

What is this $240 discount on a new phone you speak of?

        • @Munki: Yes! please tell me more about the $240 discount!

    • You get $200 on BYO and $240 on a plan. I don't think you'll get both.

      • @jobski You can get both. I just went into telstra store and there were a queue of people all cashing in on it. I spoke to multiple chat people and on the phone. Just make them aware of it that it is allowed and they seem to be doing them now.

    • This depends on if you want unlimited calls or international calls as the telstra deal doesn't give you that.

  • When does the contract start? Upon activation of the sim?

    • I would assume first month starts when the sim is activated, yeah.

    • No contract from the looks of it

  • Given that Virgin uses the Optus network, if I port from Virgin to Optus, does that count as me porting my number from an "outside" network? Or does optus see it as an Optus - Optus conversion?

    • Just grab a cheapie $2 voda sim and port in and out to Optus, sorted.

      • How long does this take?

  • -1

Only if its Telstra…. Ill be running to telshop like a MOFO… BUT… Optus…. Thanks but no thanks

  • +1

These deals are great for people who don't mind porting all the time :)

  • +1

Went in to the shop and asked about this deal and they presented me a different deal on this m2m sim only plan. They give 2 months free when sign up to any of the Sim only plan. For $60 sim only plan for example, you pay $60 dollar first month and free for next two months. You can terminate the plan any time. So workout equal to $20/months if you leave when you finish off the third months. Hopefully there is something that worth porting to after the third month. :-)

    • How long did it take for them to process your application?

      • 10 minutes and I have Optus service up and running on my phone. No need to do anything at all.

  • sounds good in theory, but can optus fulfill their obligation and could they actually deliver 10GB of data to you. very suspect with their network. caveat emptor.

    • +1

You must be joking, in the suburbs with 4G (providing your phone is compatible with 2300 MHz, 1800 MHz and 700 MHz) you can often get 70 Mbps+. Plenty of bandwidth to chew through 10GB if you stream video.

  • +1

Wife and I were on Optus $30 prepaid plans. Switched both our numbers to the $60 plan over live chat. Didn't have to port out to another provider.

    Thanks OP.

  • Got my sim in the post, will port over next week as I'm in the middle of the month on my existing contract with Lyca. Cheers OP!

  • BE WARNED!!!
I signed up the $70 plan on their website last Friday through chat. Received my SIM card today and called them to activate the card. While on the phone with them, I was told I'm only getting the 50% for the FIRST MONTH ONLY because I signed up the deal ONLINE with someone's assist(online chat) not clicking all the buttons myself. And they are only able to give me 50% off for the first 3 months instead of 6 on the phone.
I immediately asked them to cancel the port of my number from Vodafone before activating my Optus SIM card because that guy who assisted me through their online chat is a scumbag!

I called Vodafone 30 minutes later and asked them if they can match Optus's offer(they couldn't when my wife called them last week), and they did($80 plan for $35 first 6 months). But I needed to give them my ABN and sign it up as a business customer.

  • Ported from TPG, 50% off $60 BYO plan for 6 months, PLUS $10 off for 12 months on top, so $20/month for the first 6 months. Very happy.

    • +1

The extra $10 because you have optus internet? or another deal?

  • I tried mine last night for work, VPN, remote desktop, Skype. It was rubbish, even though the speeds are 10x what my optus cable gives at that time of night at 25/3mbps vs 2.5/0.3 on supposedly 100mbit cable. But it was still really slow with the screen refresh and Skype voice was terrible. I guess its the ping times or something, cable is 10ms, 4G is always at least 30ms.

  • Has anyone ported their number to optus?
whats the process… do you signup online or call them to get this deal?
I want to get "$60 My Plan Plus SIM Only"

  • My mum has home broadband with Optus. I just signed up and put my residential address as hers, fingers crossed I can get an extra $10 off too.

No harm done, still happy with the regular 50% if it comes back negative.

    • Ps mine activated fine with the $10 off.

So… If you know someone that is at an optus address who can take delivery you might be able to get the extra $10 off a month… Maybe.

  • I'm keen in porting my Amaysim number and get an additional $10 off for having Optus Broadband at home. Does anyone know when going through the process of ordering online through their secure check-out site, will it port my number across or can I have till 4th Jan 2016 to port the number and be eligible for this offer?
