300GB Bonus Data (800GB) on Telstra 'L' Plans, Free Gateway Max & Telstra TV for $119/Month

102

Total of 800GB/month, includes NBN and non NBN plans (thanks @scubacoles).

Non NBN plans - https://www.telstra.com.au/bundles#plans-pricing (Deal available on L plan only).

Deal not available on month to month plans, you need to sign up for 24 months.

Not sure how long this deal has been available for. Speedboost to 100 Mbps is an extra $20/month, $10/month for 50 Mbps. Also includes free local and national calls, and calls to standard Australian mobiles.

Bonus data also available on the 'M' plan (extra 200GB, 400GB total) for 89/month but you don't get the Telstra TV or Gateway Max.

T&C's:

  • Bonus Data Offer: Offer ends 30/11/2015. Available on Telstra's M Bundle and Telstra's L Bundle with NBN. Bonus data will be applied for 24 months or until you cancel your plan or move to an ineligible plan. Unused data expires monthly.
  • Service not available to all areas, homes or customers
  • Your home phone and home broadband service must be connected at the same physical address
  • Family calls benefits – if you have an Ultimate Plan, New Ultimate Plan or Ultimate II Plan, calls from your mobile service are not included.
  • The three free data top ups are valid until 31 December. The top up amount will be 100% of your plan’s monthly allowance. For example, if you're on a 50GB Broadband plan you’ll receive a 50GB top up
  • Unused top ups don't carry over into the next year, and expire at the end of the billing cycle
  • Top ups will only unshape your account if you have exceeded your data allowance – not if you are shaped due to Credit Management
  • In areas serviced by the NBN, Telstra may be required to connect services onto the NBN. Once you are connected to the NBN, you won’t be able to move to our copper network

Min cost is $2856 on a 24-month plan if you self-install: •$119 x 24 months monthly min charge

  • Wish there was a promo on Telstra Cable broadband!

    • There is, exactly the same deal
      https://www.telstra.com.au/bundles

      • Interesting. Thanks. Telstra TV seems like a waste and gimmick though. No use for me. Can you sell these things on gumtree?

    • +1

I tried & can get the same deal on cable.

If they'd offer this a year ago I would have stuck with them.
But alas I get a much better deal on Optus cable (uncapped speeds, unlimited data & calls in oz, fetchtv, Netflix QoS'd)

Telstra are dodgey with their sneaky additional charges like "free calls to onkly selected mobile, 40c 13xx numbers, $20 to uncap the speed, kind of rubbish.

  • My area is switching in February to NBN, and I was able to sign up today on my existing Telstra ADSL plan (I wanted to lock in the bonus data).

Unless you really want to use Telstra, this isn't a great deal. Telstra's "bonus offers" only make their NBN plans less uncompetitive than they were before. There are plenty of other ISPs who will give you more data, at higher speeds, for less money, and without a 24-month contract.

For the same $119/month, Skymesh are offering a faster (100/40) connection, with 50% more data (1.2TB plus 12TB of offpeak data) which includes a free modem and without a contract. And they don't meter Netflix. That's a much better deal, and the savings are more than enough to fund the purchase of a streaming device that's much more capable than the mediocre Telstra TV. Plus you have the freedom to switch to another ISP if a better deal comes up.

I'm sure there are plenty of other providers with similarly superior plans too - this is just one example that springs to mind.

    • +1

True, but it's a pretty good deal as far as Telstra bundles go.

      • +5

Yes. As far as Telstra plans go, this is one of their better deals. But that's not saying much. In the overall scheme of things, it's still pretty rubbish and you can do much better elsewhere.

Since the NBN puts most ISPs on equal footing, there's virtually zero reason to use Telstra for fixed-line NBN. Their prices are massively inflated, their customer service is generally poor, and they insist on long-term contract lock-ins.

Telstra is a bad choice, unless you have no choice.

    • Assuming if I am in Telstra cable zone there is no other cable option since Telstra does not wholesale its cable business, right? I would love to sign up Optus Cable but it isn't available in my address.

      • +1

Don't go optus cable unless you check with someone in your area that is hasn't been over provisioned. Optus in my area is horrible.. I get about 3-5Mbps from about 4pm-10pm every day in annerley QLD. I used to live in the same suburb a few years ago with telstra cable, bit of instability now and then but always got full 100mpbs.. lol we actually tried to move our Telstra cable initially but they couldn't even reconnect us because they were full - probably because everyone moved off the other crappy providers.

Also available on non NBN plans.

    • Thanks mate, changed the OP and added the link to the description. :)

      • For Non-NBN bonus data appears to be only available on the L not M bundle

    • Wow…ta

      Hypothetical time:
Do you think if on a 200GB M plan (I only just signed up), Telstra could be convinced to upgrade me to L and honour the 500GB+300GB bonus deal?

      • +1

Shouldn't be a problem, they will likely just restart your 24mth plan

      • I signed up in late september and they were willing to help me out.

  • +5

I'm just surprised people can get NBN TBH…

  • MB or Mb?

  • Whoa how i wish it was mobile plans…telstra L sounds like it…

Been at least a few weeks since this 'deal' came out. Very poor value and you can get it (without the extra calls and gateway) for much cheaper as standard price: https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/tcom/personal/help/pd…. Telstra have also been charging ISPs through the roof and are appealing the ACCC decision to reduce wholesale line charges as we speak. At $119 per month this is not a deal.

In saying all this Telstra have proven more reliable than other ISPs (going on the war stories shared online) but this is a very large premium for reliability and I don't believe it differs significantly enough to be classified as a 'deal' as it's their standard price for that bundle (just the data that's thrown in). If you go through a lot of data and was already considering Telstra L plan then maybe it's good but there are better options.

    • Any tips on what you would suggest a prospective new cable customer pushes the Big T to offer? I just want cable no other bundled services.

      • The short answer is: Optus cable, if you can get it.

This article could be helpful in making an informed decision:

        • I work in the industry and i am finding that all very difficult to get head around. Cant see any deals outside of bundling, and bundling its not clear what you get especially wrt to foxtel.

    • I can't see any reference to bonus data

  • I am on 30MB/s cable, how come I cannot find $10 50MB/s speedboost? there's only $20 for 100MB/s speedboost in my account setting ….

    • You ring customer service

  • +1

Speedboosts are Mbps (megabits per second) not MB/s

  • Ok if you are in a Bigpond Cable area, that will be switching to NBN (soon).

    e.g. Wishart QLD.

  • Unless I'm mistaken this is 25/5 speeds (NBN) so you're up for +$10 or +$20 for a speed bump.

No deal here in my humble opinion. Good to see Telstra catching up on the data bundles but their pricing strategy is still a few years behind.

  • Today or over the weekend telstra has added 200gb to the cheapest M plan $89. So total 400gb.

Also you can get free gateway max modem, only pay for $12 delivery fee.
And if you are a new customer you get $10 off per month. Cost $79 for 400gb . I telstra TV though.
