its not overly hard to do if you have the equipment (video in), however at 10 bux a tape its not too bad… (if you do multiples)

title is a little misleading, the use of the word "from" is dodgy, and you may have people complain about that, as its 19 for one…

might be worthwhile listing the normal price too… as this add reads a bit spamish…

had to comment as we are currently doing this now, and we have the proper gear for it, id be tempted just to pay someone as the labor of it makes this a deal..

if you don't have the gear than this is a decent bargain…

change the title to something like
    1 for $19, 5 for $49 (9.80 per tape)
i think it will be received much better than using from 9.80 in the title.

    Whats VHS?

    • +1

Video Home System - VHS tapes are Video tapes used in the 80s, 90's and oo's, however you probably know that :-)

    • +3

      For that matter, What's DVD?

Do they also offer a gramophone to 8-track service?

      • +4

Nope, but can do 8-track audio reels to CD or Mp3, and even LP Records and audio cassettes to CD. And also 8mm and SUper 8mm Cine reels to DVD.

  • +2

Thanks for that, Wisc. It has been changed now to:
    VHS to DVD Transfers - 1 for $19 (Value $35), 3 for $35 (11.6 Each), 5 for $49 (9.80 Each)

    • +1

  • Do u do the 8mm to dvd

    • Yes can transfer the 8mm, HI8 or Video 8 tapes to dvd as well. And can transfer the old 8mm and super 8mm cine reels for $10 per 50 feet.

      • +1

what are the digital small tapes called? ( pretty sure they are MiniDV) we have about a hundred of those (ok maybe 50 odd), wouldn't mind getting those converted, rather than go though each tape one at a time…are you able to do those?

        • +2

yes, they are called Minidv. And yes can transfer those as well.

  • +1

Should at least add location in description. Melbourne Vic for those wondering where there located.

    • +1

good advice thanks. we are located in Melbourne, however we have many customers who post their tapes to us from all over Australia, and have never had any issues.

  • Rep:

I have a tape from my grandma where the ribbon has snapped. I've seen videos on YouTube how to fix it, but can this be done by you then converted onto DVD?

    • +2

Yes we can repair the tapes before transferring to DVD. There may be an additional charge depending on how broken the tape is.

      • The ribbon was just cut in one place. I emailed you, can you please give me a quote

  • so, shane77
    wonder how this work
we send you the miniDV tapes? how long does it take to convert them to dvd?
and you will send them back when its done? no postage fee or anything right?

    • +4

Step one is to send us the tapes, either drop off or post. We suggest registered post with a pre-paid return envelope. We will send back the tapes and DVD's to you when complete. Postage is not included in this deal.

  • +3

+1 to the ultra responsive rep, if your service is this prompt and courteous you're gonna have no issues here.

  • Have sent you an email about transferring some old Super 8 videos, looks like these are good prices. How long does the service usually take?

    • Thanks for the email. It depends on how many reels you have. Usually within a week, however when we run a deal it gets busier so I would say 1-3 weeks.

  • Hm… I've been wanting to do this myself - and have seen VCRs still for sale for years now. (Have too many VHS tapes - and I'm too cheap - to pay someone else.) But after a comment above, I just rang Bing Lee & Harvey Norman to check - and they don't sell VCRs anymore. He did say he has seen a model still for sale but only online. But it's a VCR/DVD-burner combo. I'll get that if I have to, but I really only need a VCR…

Does anyone know where I can still walk in and buy a stereo VCR?

    • I just sold a second hand VCR on ebay for $100 but you can get them cheaper than that. Lots of good refurbs on there too.

  • What method do you use to convert from super 8 reels to DVD? And can you do transfer from super 8 to digital file (hard disk/mem stick) rather than to DVD? Where are you located as sending these old, one of a kind, super 8 reels through the post can be a bit dicey. You can PM me if you like.

    • We use a custom made tele-cine conversion system. We can transfer all tape and video formats to a digital file to store on USB or Hard Drive or even upload to a drop box account.

      • Thanks. What frame rate, bitrate, format and resolution will the digital file result in? How does your tele-cine system deal with the 24 frames per second of 8mm to get the 25 fps of Pal video? Using your tele-cine machine is there any chance of film burn? Also which city are you in, in case drop off/pickup is an option?

        • Frame rate will match the original reel, in other words 18 frames per second or 24 frames per second. Burns hardly happen because of the light source used that doesn't get hot. We are in melbourne, gardenvale, however posting is also OK, however I suggest to use tracking.

        • @shane77: Sounds great. Resolution, bitrate and file format for the video file?

        • @Hazza: resolution 720 X 576, bitrate 8000, format mpeg 2.

    • Except it says nothing about macrovision/video stabilisation/copy protection.

    • +1

really depends on how you value your time, to set this up and get it started, copy to DVD etc, I cant see you getting much change out of an an hour or two. I rekon 5 is probably going to take you at least a few hours in labor alone… (best case - without the running time of the stuff your copying) that doesn't include the 30 minutes buying the items getting it etc…

as i said in my first post its relatively easy to do, but it really does depend on how much you value your time…
I guess that said, its still going to take you time to get it to them etc…

I think the 10 bux a tape is pretty good value anyways.

    • Yeah, good luck with that. Most, if not all cheap VHS converters result in very poor results. Don't waste your money on this rubbish.

      • i've used this before, done about 6 tapes. quality is exactly the same as VHS, no different.

its not hard to press play on a vcr and record on stick. you don't need to hang around, let it do its thing come back to it when it ends. trim video and presto.

Not hard at all, worth it if you have a few to do. For one or two i'd use the service

    Hey Rep,
I have a bunch of tapes that have mould and as a result the VHS heads need to be cleaned regularly (like every 30seconds) otherwise it will just show snow..
As I'm wanting to just convert to digital (or DVD) do you have the facilities to clean the tape as it goes.
I just don't want to send you them and have a call saying the tape is blank etc.

    • Hi Ozy. We can clean the tapes, however there will be an additional charge, depending on the condition of the tapes. Feel free to email [email protected] for more info.

      • Cheers mate
