  • More phone info here: http://www.gsmarena.com/alcatel_pixi_3_(4_5)-6934.php

  • which better this phone or HUAWEI ASCEND Y530 and how to unlock it?

  • Y550 competitor.

I wonder if this will be on sale at Woolworths/Coles in the future. (Deleted wrong item)

8GB Memory (with 2.5GB end user memory available)

What are they doing with the other 5.5gb?!

    • the 5.5GB would contain the following partitions

      /boot
      /system
      /recovery
      /data
      /cache
      /misc

the remainder 2.5GB of user accessible storage will be partition as /storage/emulated which is where you can access things like downloads, photos and media files. The technical nitty gritty behind this though, is that these folders are actually symbolic links and not actually 'folders' as such. But it's easier to understand it by representing them as folders.

      • Thanks, I appreciate the answer, I guess I should have asked a more pointed question, which is if the y550 is only 4gb,and has approx 2gb free, why is this using 5.5gb to do practically the same thing

  • +1

The Y550 only has around 1.6GB available too. That's a problem with all these lower end phones.

    • put in the mSD card, at storage set all into sdcard (do it before u install any app)

      • Even then many apps won't run from sd unless you root and then link2sd, but rooting is not as easy as downloading an app and running it on the y550 afaik, not sure about this phone

        • When I had the Y550 I just set the storage for all apps to install straight to sd card. Never rooted it and it seem to have no issues doing that. I even installed games like GTA: SA (2.5gb game) on it. Not sure if you can do the same thing with this phone though.

        • @Ronnnie: I did this and still ran out in no time. Yes if GTA will run from the card great, but you don't know what will and what won't when you download it

Would the ZTE Fit Smart be better?

    • +1

In terms of storage, much better.

    • I'd rather the ZTE, I've had a few Alcatel's

    • The zte is probably better but only for use on optus. I'm only speculating but the Alcatel probably has better camera since the ZTE Fit has a really bad camera even for a budget phone. The main thing this Alcatel has going for it over other similar priced phones is the band support and updated to Lollipop 5.1. Most lower end phones are still stuck on kitkat.

  • What is the model number of this phone? I want to be sure that the unlock code is available on eBay.

  • This seems almost identical to the Telstra 4GX Buzz available for $79. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/217741 Although this one for $10 less with $20 Play credit would seem the better deal.

    Comparison:

(Note that some of those GSMArena specs are wrong.)

    • The Telstra 4GX Buzz though works on the faster 4GX network.

4GX is marketing speak for 4G 700MHz. Both phones will work fine with that, so will have good reception with any of the Australian carriers.

Optus call their 4G 700MHz network "4G Plus".
