    $10 for a Macca's burger… wow!

      It's very un-mcdonalds..

    • +1

But a pretty decent sized burger!

regular chicken burger meals cost more than that

      • +1

Yeah what are you talking about. Since the past few years McDonalds had really improved in their use of fresh ingredients. Juicy and plump tomato, crispy and fresh lettuce… I honestly could hardly fault them for this attempt.

If only they sell the CYO burger as a different brand, it would've been a different story for me. I just couldn't get past the fact of spending $13-$15 on a burger meal inside a Macca's, when I've only been spending $6-$9 in the past. It just doesn't feel right.

Re-activated my account just to say you're wrong.

CYT Chicken is actually steamed, like grilled chicken used to be like 2+ years ago. Nowadays we actually just chuck the normal chicken on the grill (hence why it used to be called Seared chicken, and now Grilled chicken), same as the meat and it goes down for like 6 minutes.

For CYT, we chuck the chicken on the grill, then put a metal box over it, in which water is added. Halfway through it is turned over and steamed again.

The CYT buns I find are actually larger than the normal menu buns. They might rival the size of the Angus buns however.

As for ingredients; you probably just got unlucky.

Personally I prefer the normal menu. CYT is nice, but there are better burger-only restaurants out there which taste better for the same price.

        ^this.
I got a CYT meal, and it set me back $17.. The burger was actually really good, but I'd take a $12 burger from somewhere like Chur Burger or one of the myriad of amazing burger joints in Sydney over a CYT any day. The only time I think I'd go for it is if I was in the middle of nowhere and felt like something decent.

        • +9

I prefer the CYT burgers over Grill'd these days.

I also like the price of a CYT meal over Grilld.

        • @jjno41: Grill'd is a horrible comparison for a better alternative, they are probably the inspiration for CYT - overpriced for the taste, which is not really as premium in taste that they lead you to believe.

You can't do that in Australia. They have put restrictions on modifications now. eg. max 3 eggs, Max 3 sauces, max 2 meat patties etc.

    • Eh, I don't really mind. CYT is pretty relaxing to make, adding stuff like a squirt of sauce only takes a second.

I think this promo runs for the first month of the Chicken launch, which started a while back.

  • -2

LOL its included in the price………..

  • I was hoping to make a beef chicken burger. I guess that's not possibe?

    • Doesn't look like it. You can experiment with combinations here https://buildyourburger.mcdonalds.com.au/burger-builder (beef chicken doesn't work)

    • Technically you can go double chicken or double beef, not one of each. If you ask the crew at the counter they will put it through under the customer satisfaction policy anyway though.

  • +1

Mark mu words, cyt isn't going to last. It's marginally better than thr normal shit but macca‘s market is vastly made up of people who want the basic shit. It's just going to be one of those failed ideas. For $10+ there are far better options.

    • Yep, just like the healthy choice menu didn't last, pity cause I liked some of that stuff

    • Yep if I'm paying more than 10$ I'd rather go to Nandos

      • Does nandos use an actual piece of chicken or semi processed like Maccas?

  • Now we seem to have diverged from the original post. Good to know I can just order the burger and get free fries. I usually carry a drink with me as I'm a bit cheap so thanks for the heads up.
FYI I think the burgers are great tasting and personally match or beat many specialty places. My wife who is a bit of a burger snob actually likes CYT so good job maccas.

    • Where do you live?

      • Melbourne

  • +3

Does anyone know how maccas cleans the wooden serving board and metal chip container afterwards? Cause I see the staff bang it against the lip of the rubbish bin to clear left over scraps…

  • +3

I have Grill'd or Brodburger to choose from but if you're in Melbourne then: http://www.buzzfeed.com/laurenvadnjal/epic-burger-alert#.kmP…

    • +1

      +1 for brod, amazing stuff

      • I know where I'm going this weekend……

    • To me maccas can't compete as their beef/chicken just isn't right. What a great list, so many amazing burgers to try! One of my faves not listed is the Mushroom Burger from Monster Burger at Harbour Town - delish!

      • If I still lived in Melbourne I would be going through that list.

Even though Maccas is trying to separate itself from being fast-food with this CYT range, people will always think of it as fast food no matter how fancy they get. I do admit that I like those CYT burgers more than the normal range.

    • Brodburger

      Brodenburger ?

DO i have to flash my ozbargain badge to get this deal?

      • If they see you're from OZB you get unceremoniously dumped out into the dirt as they don't know the meaning of specials/deals/value/discount/…….bargain.

      • Thanks OP bought 30

  • -3

I love the CYT idea, and i was excited for the chicken after trying the beef (fresh ingredients, and a lot of choice!). However, the maccas chicken CYT is just mashed up chicken to look like a breast, like the rest of their chicken burgers. I probably sound like a snob, as all chicken is created equal but yeah, i can taste the difference. Put the maccas CYT next to a grilld chicken burger and i would take the Grilld chicken breast every time.

    • +4

If you want I can show you the raw piece of chicken breast, just to prove you wrong.

      • +2

Hmmm well i obviously don't work there, but i do have a friend who works at Mcdonalds annerley in QLD and has been there since the beginning of the CYT. It was one of the first CYT where they actually have the full grill set up and what i saw on the grill and got in my burger was not a singular chicken breast. It's ground up chicken in a shape of a 'breast'. Whether this is made up from 100% chicken breast as they say, probably, but ground up with a whole lot of other stuff mixed in - and no i don't mean some conspiracy theory crap, just a whole lot of salt, additives and flavor enhancer. I mean it's Mcdonalds, i don't expect anything less, but I would rather support Grill'd where it is an actual whole piece chicken breast.

Honestly post a picture, cos what i had in mine sure didn't look/taste/feel like a singular breast!

        • +1

Good comment. I'd like to know what they are putting in the chicken.

        • +1

When you say the beginning of CYT, they only added chicken as an option very recently, so maybe you were there before the current policy of fresh chicken breasts being used came in

        • Yup this is true, chicken only came in recently, this is why i was excited and expecting better as the beef CYT is actually quite good! :P I really don't think they will start plopping whole chicken breasts on the grill though. It just doesn't fit in with their business model. IF they already mulch up the chicken for their other burgers, doesn't make cost sense for them not to mulch it for their CYT.

        • @caseabrook: All the CYT chicken burgers I have had are not mulched but real breast

        • -3

          @benjamin:

LOL. You guys don't know what a REAL chicken breast is. CYT chicken may not be 'minced' but it's processed chicken with all sorts of other stuff such as thickener, water etc. It may look like a breast but the texture is clearly not actual unadulterated chicken. No wonder thee's an entire generation who doesn't understand food. Doesn't bode well for the future sadly. (casebrook is spot on)

        • +1
        • @dafatha:

Yes we all know malodextrin and thickeners are NATURALLY occurring ingredients in chicken breasts. If you guys can't tell from the texture that these aren't 100% chicken breasts as I said before society is screwed.

GRILLED CHICKEN: Chicken, Water, Maltodextrin, Flavouring, Salt, Thickener (1442), Rice Flour, Mineral Salts (451, 450, 508), Yeast Extract, Herbs, Garlic Powder.

        • @dafatha: heh well look at that - i do stand somewhat corrected. Now my question would be why not treat it like a regular breast????

For anyone interested on those two 'ingredients' gimme mentioned:

What maccas says - maltodextrin is used as sugar to increase browning of the meat and to evenly distribute seasonings.

Maltodextrin is a white powder often used in processed foods as a thickener or a filler since it's fairly inexpensive, as well as in pharmaceuticals as a binding agent.

thickener (1442) provides better colour and shine to products and has very good freeze-thaw properties. It may slow down the degradation of food in the intestine.

Look this stuff is safe from my knowledge (and most other fast food like KFC use it too), but i know i wasn't going crazy when i can definitely taste/chew the difference. Chicken breast ain't meant to be sweet and that moist/texture.
