Seems like a good price for a massive smartphone, with a massive battery to match. Pretty awesome specs, and great Huawei metal build quality.

Not a lot of reviews online, but if it's anything like the P8 it's based on, it'd make a fantastic smartphone.

  • Thanks OP, I have been looking for something to replace my aging Sony Xperia Z Ultra and with no successor to it this phone looks like it may be a good replacement.

This sounds like the perfect replacement. Because the bezels are tiny, the phone won't feel any bigger and you get the updated specs.

Only thing is, won't you miss the waterproofing? I love my Z2 being waterproof :P

      • I don't know how waterproof my Sony is as have never tested it because the power cover never closes properly, Got it fixed once when I could not charge the phone under warranty and they fixed it at the same time but about a month later it's loose again.

Well that's annoying, earlier Xperia Z phones had some QC issues and to this day still do.

But in that case, this phone looks perfect. Hopefully shipping is fast :)

This sounds like the perfect replacement.

Because it most likely won't have the litany of widespread issues that all Sony Mobile devices have including:

        -cracking seemingly for "no reason"
        -phantom input creating daily frustration
-micro USB port cover falling out

Add 4 week breaks of not using your device while Sony fixes these issues (more than once).

These issues have been occurring since the Xperia Z1/Z Ultra and cntinue to plague the range up until the Xperia M at least so Sony is showing by it's behavior that it simply does not care.

Hence I recommend avoiding Sony Mobile products indefinitely.

Seems to be a non-issue these days. I have a Z2, my friends have a Z2 Tablet, 2 Z3s, Z1 Compact and Z3 Compact and non of us have had those issues.

    samsung s6 is better.

  • I think they should have put in a QHD screen on this phone, it will make it a lot better due to the big screen.

    • The performance would suffer a bit then. GPU is slightly underwhelming for QHD. Looks like a nifty device though. I would assume that the resolution wouldn't be that bad on the phablet either.

    • Very weak GPU, and I doubt there is a 6.8" QHD panel in existence, since it's such a niche size. FHD would look fine, for example, the Nexus 7 2013 had a FHD panel but still looks amazing, that's on a 7.0" diagonal.

QHD would hurt performance too much. The gpu on this phone is quite weak for a flagship and compared to competition. And i doubt most people could see a difference. I bet in blind test people wouldn't be able to pick QHD from FHD on these small phones. Really the resolution war has got silly. Apple have it right, their devices all have great screens without resorting to higher resolutions. All you are getting from a higher resolution is faster battery drain, and worse performance.

    • It's a 6.8" display, about a full inch bigger than the Nexus 6.

This is approaching tablet sizes minus the bezels.

    • Apple have it right, their devices all have great screens without resorting to higher resolutions.

I remember when Apple were pushing the retina screen as a big selling point because it claimed to have the highest resolution on a mobile device, how times have changed.

As for this deal, I'd definitely consider it if looking for a new phone. Just wondering how it can be either dual sim, or single sim with micro SD card slot upto 2TB? Does that mean that the second sim slot doubles as a micro SD card reader too?

Might be a good idea to list what bands it supports too OP, so potential buyers will know if they'd be missing out on anything. Cheers.

I think so. My mate 7 gold works the same way. Tray 2 can either take a nano SIM or a micro SD card.

Regarding Micro SD, do we even get 2TB cards? Max I could find is 512GB.

Nope, at least not at the moment. I just always say 2TB, because the SDXC standard allows for a theoretical 2TB limit, and bigger MicroSDs are out every quarter or so.

Yep, that's how it works. Two slots, one of them is both nano-sim and microSDXC.

    • Don't know why you got negged, what you said is mostly true. Nexus 7 has a 1920x1200 resolution on a 7.0" diagonal and still looks great. Kirin SoCs have terrible GPUs, and QHD would just bog the phone down.

But about the whole Apple thing, that's not entirely true. The 4.7" iPhones definitely look pretty crappy in terms of sharpness compared to even my Z2. 300ish PPI is only acceptable on massive devices like this, where you hold it further from your face.

Personally I wouldn't buy from them.

  • how to pronounce the brand name?

    • 'Wah Way'

This brand is the best mobile phone brand in China. However, they just copy the outlook of iphone and the price is quite expensive comparing with LG G4 ($500 for grey import).

      • Well to me this looks pretty damn different to an iPhone (how many ways can you make a metal phone…?) and comparing this and the LG G4 is like comparing a van and a hatchback. This is a massive phone built for endurance, the G4 is a smaller sleeker phone built for the average consumer who likes taking photos.

        Not really a fair comparison…
