Hmmm .. clicked through on a few of the cruises and, despite advertising some great prices (like the $92 in the post), there doesn't actually seem to be any availability for the Balcony stateroom.

It seems a bit misleading as even when you select a cruise, and a date, the cheapest price is still displayed despite not being available.

I saw something similar. When you clicked on the New Zealand cruise the available balcony room was roughly twice as much. I presume if anyone is particularly keen on this you could ring the 1800 number and argue your point.

Few tips since I had already booked ours for Xmas and had great time last trip.

If you are keen, don't wait till the last minute as site goes down.call centre is from overseas and will not honour any deal if not booked in time.

'if you pay by credit card, check with your banking institution as RC based in Miami which the transaction occurs- overseas transaction fee applies ie 2.5-3% unless you have a 28. I don't.

Add gratitude as well to your total. Ie price is not all up.

Different ship is different. Can check on their website.

Booked ours when offered double upgrade ie upgrade balcony and extra $200 on board credit.

Don't forget no iron/power board allowed. Bring a US power adaptor. Good luck.

Check the site earlier, did not see the balcony price as state room price - I may be wrong. If you get it under $100 per person per night for balcony room, good deal.

Really not much need for a balcony room, if you spend most of your day time out of the room anyway. I found that when I travelled with RC this year.

Having cruised in both an inside cabin and a balcony cabin, I would say there is a great deal of difference. I would only cruise in a balcony room now as it is wonderful having daylight and fresh air in the room, to wake up with morning light instead of being confused whether it is 2am or 10am, and to sit on the balcony and enjoy an early coffee, or watch the waves or sunset, or observe entering ports at 6am in your dressing gown. If you are early risers, then having a balcony is like having an extra room as you can sit out there and enjoy the view while they are still sleeping. Balcony cabins are also bigger than inside cabins as a rule. If you get an offer that includes a double upgrade to balcony, it is certainly worthwhile. Of course, if you can only afford an inside cabin, then it is still worth travelling. I have noticed that October and November cruises are routinely discounted so this is a good time to book something last minute.

  • Never been on a cruise before because I'm afraid of sea sickness. Just wanted any feedback from cruise veterans - has it ever happened to you and how did you cope?

    • +2

I have a "weak" stomach and have never been sea sick. Have been on 4 cruises so far. Last cruise had 9 meter swells on the last day, which did push me but I was still ok.

At worst case you see the doctor, they jab you with a needle and you're all good. I'm sure the cost of seeing the doctor would sting more then the needle.

      • Thanks that's good to know.

You can get over the counter pills like Avomine which you start taking the day before travelling. Ask your doctor for advice, see online for drug information sheets and you need to speak to the pharmacist to get these as they are not on the open shelves. You may find your get used to the movement after the first day and don't need to take them for the whole trip.

    • Thank you.
