  • great deal!

    • +11

      16 gigs, for over $850… a phone.

  • +15

Don't forget to consider import duties and taxes. This will still be seen as over $1000.

    • +2

How much would import duties and taxes cost?

      • +2

Around $50 processing fee and 10% of the goods price.

        • +2

If that was the case then it would be cheaper to purchase from DS using discounted gift cards

    • What do you mean import duties and taxes? since when do we have to play that here in Australia?

    • do we need to pay for the import duties and taxes on top of 855.2? i do not see seller mention any of that on their page

    • can anyone clarify this?does this apply to all goods from outside aus?

      • It applies to all goods imported to Australia that is priced over $1000. The problem with this deal is you'll get a receipt marked as $1,069.00. That means you are over the limit and have to pay the import duty and taxes. Customs won't take the discount you received into consideration.

      • Surely we all know the routine by now?

But if not, then here's the clarification.

Technically there is a $1000 limit for private individuals to legally import goods without paying GST (though this may change).

The above poster is indicating or speculating that buying this phone would count as a purchase of over $1000 presumably because the 20% off is covered by eBay and not the seller.

But realistically, what are the chances of this actually happening - the package being stopped at Customs, then whether they'll choose to interpret the above- or below- $1000 in that way, and then whether they'll chase someone buying a $1025 phone instead of focusing on the $5000 cameras etc.

As for the seller, they don't really care - there will be something in their T&C that says "local duties are buyers responsibility" on the grounds that they can't be expected to know the rules for every country they ship to.

        • I see, and 10% for the goods price. Thats basically paying back the gst amount. So that means buying camerasthat is over 1000 through this cwedding deal is not worth it afterall

        • Yeah it can work in your favour when you claim back gst and you end up with extra because the retailers reciept shows for full price. In this instance it could go against you. I wouldn't take the gamble.

    • -6

It wasn't over $1000 - the man paid $850 AUD.

850 Strayan got shipped out of the country.

      The value is 850!

Discounts aren't re-added for customs! Why not tell him to declare his credit card points too? lol

Don't be jelly of OP's deal if you paid RRP at your local Apple store

      • +2

I believe it is actually eBay that provides the discount, so the supplier itself doesn't know or care if you had paid 20% less. For them the sale is at the listed price and they will provide an receipt for the listed price.

Customs might see this as a purchase over 1000 bucks.

  • +21

Seriously consider a larger capacity. 16GB just doesn't cut it. You'll chew it up in no time with just a few videos.

    • +1

They don't have the 6S in anything over 16GB on their ebay store.

    • +4

I got 16Gb and fine for me. Don't play games. Don't store music. Just steam everything really. I find the more space I have the more crap I store and longer it takes to remove or back up

Ie. Have had my iPhone 6 for 6 months. Still have 1.5GB of space and haven't copied my Photos over to my pc

      • +2

Wow! These iPhones can even steam! I knew they were hot! xD

      • +2

not storing music and not playing games seems like a bit of a compromise, but whatever floats your boat. also what kind of data plan are you on to be able to stream music regularly? :S

also was wondering how much cloud storage apple users get. but still glad I have expandable storage so I don't have to pay an arm and a leg for it.

        • 8GB plan.

Also I have Wifi at work (and home)

      • +1

You will struggle with the higher resolution camera, live photos, 4k videos etc.

I had a 16gb iphone 6+ and it kept running out of storage, I had no music and barely any games. Had to keep deleting messages etc. and clearing email caches, massive PITA. I went 64gb this time.

      • Why get such a phone if you don't intend to take advantage of it? I don't understand. You buy a fast phone, that can take excellent pictures and you'll use it to surf the web, call people and stream music? Why not a budget phone?

        • Didn't know I "had to" take advantage of anything.

        • My mother owns an iPhone 6, 16GB one and she'd never use it to its full capacity. There are iOS users who just need a new iOS phone that works. Before you tell me all about android phones, my mother is very very very very strict with what she likes, to extent where I'd not buy her anything and give her cash or ask her to tell me what she wants. Also having the latest phone has its boon, lighter phone, longer battery etc etc that doesn't relate to storage.

That said, 16GB model is more or less a bait model for many many people. The argument of 16GB still has demand is invalid when many many many people would prefer 32GB and those who wants 16GB model won't be worse off if Apple makes 32GB model as a base model (and no, it wouldn't cost Apple a lot to do so). In short, it is all about profit.

In terms of consumer, there is no loss to be made for anyone if 32GB model becomes the new base model (Arguments on price increase is a moot point when cost price of 16GB to 32GB wouldn't be massive increase, they can soak it up). They will probably make 32GB model into a base model when enough people goes to other devices because they find 16GB to be too small and find 64GB to be too expensive.

  • +18

16GB non expandable storage on a smartphone in 2015 should be considered as a felony!

    • +1

Agreed and Samsung should be put on notice for the Note 5 too, 32gb isn't much better either, bloody apalling

      • +6

Actually its much better. 32gb is fine for a base model for a phone.

        • +3

Nah it's still terrible when the OS is going to chew a significant portion of that. If it was 32gb FREE as default, sure - awesome, that's workable.

  • You'll have to make sacrifices to use 16gb but it's not impossible. Personally I use Netflix and Spotify for my entertainment so it's onto photos I have to worry about

    • I just use Google photos and the unlimited backup for all my photos

    • Why would you want to pay over $1000 for a phone (regular price) and make sacrifices? My phone was $520 and has 64gb storage, this phone should have 128gb at this price point…

  • +3

good deal, but 16gb is a joke, usable only 10gb, 10gb for 4k video? yeah

  • +3

Apple made a pretty greedy move on excluding the 32gb model. That was the reason why I'm going to stick to my 5S until they bring it back or lower the price of 64gb (which is highly unlikely/impossible).

    • too bad the AUD is going down so they are increasing prices on their products. Starting with the Mac lines and App Store apps and it's already in action :(. Greedy bastards.

    • +1

They do that because they can, which is so annoying. I understand it is for the benefit of the company (and hence the shareholders) which is the reason of a company's existence, but I hope they realise that there are other stakeholders they should be caring for. I can guarantee you that there are many people who decide against buying an iPhone (like me) because 16GB is too little and 64GB is too expensive.

      • +2

Totally agree with you sir! I always bought the S model iPhone every 2 years but this is the first time I'm holding out. Heck might even move onto Samsung or LG next year. Apple shot themselves in the foot trying to make a larger profit, they just lost themselves a loyal iPhone buyer.

  • +2

Happy to watch people cry after buying the 16GB iPhone :)

  • +1

Better wait for the 64GB deal….16GB at any price over AUD800is no bargain

  • -2

It is very likely these iphones are using samsung made cpus rather than TSMC made, therefore might be 10% ~15% less powerful than Oz stock. Apple claims only 3% less but who knows.

    • OZ stock isn't 100% TSMC, FYI. I don't think Apple has specifically given a particular CPU to particular markets, it seems pretty random so far. I'm sure half the people who bought the 6S/6S+ here have the Samsung one, too. Plus, the chipgate thing was never about performance, it was about battery life.

      • I was reading a news that 80% taiwan iphones 6s uses samsung chips while only 20% in other countries, therefore you have a good chance of getting a samsung one in this case. Anyway, good luck with your shopping.

      • less performance which means uses more power to process the same thing, therefore less battery life.

        • Samsung made CPU is NOT more powerful, take a look at the benchmarks, same score as TSMC. Samsung is simply less power efficient, not because it is more powerful.

        • -2

@clse945111: I never said samsung cpu is more powerful, I said it is less powerful, it will take longer to process the same thing at the background, therefore shorten phone's battery life. Sorry if I was not clear, thanks.

  • +3

    hahaha don't know why I'm laughing…

  • +3

$800+ for 16GB isn't good value for money and therefore not a good deal

    • -2

False. Just because you don't like the phone, doesn't mean that it isn't a deal for people who want it.

      • I never said that I didn't like it. It should have been released with 32GB. This is a common complaint.

People that don't need any more than 16GB will soon find themselves using the features of the phone and wishing they had more space. Anyone who can afford this can surely afford a little bit extra for more space. They would be better off getting the previous model/s at a larger capacity.

No matter how you look, $800 for 16GB is a poor deal.

        • -3

If you buy 64gb, you'll pay $1229. I don't know how you can tell me that paying $374 for some extra storage space is a good deal. Damn, for $374 you can almost buy a LG G4.

        • @watwatwatI think that was his point, that it's a joke making people pay that much extra and it should come with this as standard. My phone cost half as much as this 16gb one retails for and has 64gb storage.

    • Compared to paying $1099 normally ?

Find us a better price for this phone or stfu.

      • I don't think telling people to stfu is appropriate on a forum, he's got his own opinion.

        • This forum is about bargains. This is a bargain. A Ferrari half price is a deal too. Just Coz he won't pay the $500k instead of 1million didn't mean it's not a bargain. That's the whole point of this site. Not to discuss if in your opinion it is or not a good product or value for money but if it's a good price compared to what it's selling for other places.

  • I checked it earlier today and was trying to find 64gb but only 16gb in white only. I wonder how frausturated one would be after using it couple of months and regret buying it.

  • OH, NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, it was expired

    • +1

Yes, today was last day for the ebay deal.

  • +2

When Samsung can give you an S6 with 128gb of storage for under $800 ( https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/215500 ) it's a bloody joke that Apple charge you more and only give you 16gb. Definitely not a worthwhile purchase.

  • -1

$688 for the 64GB S6 Edge makes this deal seem dreadful.

16GB for a deal price of over $850 is an insult.

To people saying it is enough, enough for what? You pay for a high end smart phone that has many features including a 4k camera and a fast CPU/GPU that can play games with great visuals, but you can only do a little bit of either before space runs out?

Some people stream video and music, or use it to surf thw Web. Great. Why get a high end smart phone then? Why not last year's model that can do those easily and cost a lot less, or get a budget Android device that can do those, cost less and store a lot more data incase you need to store something?

Sony Xperia Z3 Compact with an SD would surely be a much better deal, similar size, similar resolution screen, very good camera, fast processor, MicroSD card storage, long battery life.

    • +3

      Main reasons are:

      • People like to have the latest and greatest
      • 2 year upgrade cycle
      • iPhones sell like hot cakes still
      • s6/s6 edge has weak sales
      • Demand and supply
      • 16gb is enough for people who barely use their phone and/or rely on cloud storage
      • Some people love Apple iOS
      • There's still a perceived status owning an iPhone
      • +1
        • s6/s6 edge has weak sales
        • Demand and supply

What does that have to do with anything?

        • 16gb is enough for people who barely use their phone and/or rely on cloud storage

Yes, and to these people I question their logic and use of OzBargain. Logic issue of buying a high end phone and barely using it and OzBargain issue because this is not a deal.

I believe people who buy this phone are the foolish type who buy expensive headphones just because of the brand and believe that $100+ Monster HDMI cables work better than standard $10 HDMI cables.

        • +2

S6/S6 edge have been having weak sales hence the price reductions which will only continue.

iPhones are still in demand whilst the s6/s6 edge are not selling great.

People who buy the 16gb models are also sending a message to Apple that they will not pay a huge premium for an extra 48gb of storage.

I don't how people can spend more than $5 on hdmi cables haha

  • iPhones are fantastic, However 16 GB is not.
I would never go 16 GB again and honestly regret it soo much.

  • Yeah 32gb plus 64gb sd means no compromises. Each to their own.:)

  • -1

Meizu m2 Costs 1/5 and memory can be expanded by an extra 128gb. Sorry my iPhone 5 is the last personal apple product I will ever buy. I have had enough of being ripped off $$$ I when I can get a more flexible device for much less.
