      • As I remember paypal will show the discount amount separately.

        • Thanks supereforever. Currently on paypal I can only see the full price deduction. Possibly the discount is in there somewhere separate. Those who negged me 'please explain'

        • +4

@peck: Because whenever eBay has a Paypal coupon code deal, this same comment gets made. every. single time.

        • @peck:

I have just logged back in to paypal to check the last transaction with TGG but I couldn't see where the discount on the statement :p

But I have that discount under my eBay order details.

          EDIT:

Finally found it in Paypal click on the transaction details on the left hand side (don't look at the amount on the right)

          Paid with

          $XXX 15% off ebay.com.au #CLICK15

        • @superforever: Thanks supereforever for your friendly & constructive help.

  • Stupid TGG no more buying from you again

  • +8

Dodgy - I bought an MK270R Keyboard/mouse combo from Goodguys Ebay store on Sunday for $27.00 and today I see "20% Off at Goodguys Ebay Store" so I searched for the same combo and guess what price = $44.95 so after 20% this becomes $35.96 a 33% hike on what I paid two days ago!

    • Did you report this to accc?

      • No, but it has crossed my mind. This kind of activity makes me angry.

      • +10

Update - yes I did report to ACCC.

        • Not sure if ACCC can do anything about it, since the sale is promoted by a 3rd party entity.
I have a feeling that Paypal/Ebay actually pays the 20% discount, since on your actual invoice you get from TGG it shows the full amount. However for some odd reason the Dicksmith one shows the discounted amount, so its hard to say whats happening.

If there is no proof that TGG is ACTUALLY doing the discount, then they are free to up the prices whenever they want. It maybe unethical however it doesn't always mean they are breaking the law. Logic + Law doesn't always marry up.

Would be good to get a eBay insider who knows for real how these discounts work.

        • @lplau:

I have a feeling that Paypal/Ebay actually pays the 20% discount,

If so, that just makes it even worse. The Good Guys aren't losing any money by just discounting everything in an honest manner, only eBay is. They're actually directly losing money from all the sales they would have made.

So I imagine they must be at least splitting the discount, or paying ebay an extra fee of some kind based on sales made.

Or they are even more stupid than we thought…

        • +1

@mgowen: Someone who worked at DSE mentioned in the DSE thread that DSE pays for part of the discount. That would make sense. There's no reason why eBay should spend their own money just to promote one particular store at a time with no extra returns - they'd get more excitement out of a site-wide discount.

        • @eug: so actually the make a 10% more with the sale

    • Can you screenshot your purchase? I am interested to see it before i jump on the GG hate bandwagon.

  • Hi,

Is there any cheap Passive 3D 55-65 TV?

    typical price jacking crap

  • +3

    The UP UP GUYS

  • Are all prices jacked up, or just some? Any decent bargains?

    • +1

Some. Check out the main OzB page for bargains - they're posted individually.
I think the DSE sale had more interesting bargains for me.

  • +4

Op great effort on post mate. But lots of items gone oos or price raised. Neg not on you.

  • Not everything got jacked up… I just checked the price of a Philips Garment Steamer I bought with the previous 15% off, and it was, and still is $99.95.

I'm guessing prices are jacked up if the margin was too low or if they were an already reduced line or already on sale, linking back to the "margin too low" reason. Instead of some things being on sale with specific products at decent discount, now everything is "on sale" at the same level, which makes me think they're making the same amount of money and this is just pure marketing hype to attract new/different/unwary customers.

Therefore the real bargains will be (a) items that happen to remain at a lowered price, or (b) items that don't have a lot of profit margin for the GG's to begin with (or cost price driven by the manufacturer), making your 20% off quite reasonable, or (c) items that have such a high demand that they never need to go on sale, so your 20% off might be valuable.

    • Agree. Price remain the same for Philips Airfloss - $139.
This is also the cheapest in the market after discount and 4% cashback.($106.80)

Was going to buy $2000 worth of appliances for my new place, but since the prices have gone up, its offset the savings by a fair bit….

  • Can someone post the results of the ACCC when they finally do act?

What are you doing in 2075?

Petrol stations price gouge all the time and get away with it.

    • By the time that happens the post will be closed for comments, LOL.

  • I was looking at a Bosch Dishwasher and it has since been removed (SMS68M38AU)

  • Bad dicks.

  • Anyone know if Viali V60DWW15 is a decent dishwasher? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121685626622

Old one died a couple weeks ago and just want a cheap piece of crap replacement. Doesn't have to be great but i just want something that will actually wash and dry the dishes without me having to scrub them down beforehand.

Read the reviews of the more expensive model of the same brand on productreviews but it seems all the dishwasher reviews there are just people complaining about how bad stuff is after it goes faulty.

  • +4

I really don't get why people insist on voting + before seeing the final prices, yeesh.

Talk about not learning from mistakes.

Maybe because in all the past sales, there have been plenty of good deals worth +'ing.

  • Tried to buy http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Samsung-40L-1000W-White-Sensor-… using discount code and came up as out of stock. Then tried to check the stock without code and the transaction went through!!

Sent them a message to cancel the order obviously, but these kind of underhanded tactics really make me mad.

    It's not right!!

    • Woah that is very bad. You should follow that up with ACCC

      • +3

Woah that is very bad. You should follow that up with ACCC

And what will the ACCC do? Nothing, it's absurd to even mention the ACCC.

    • +1

Can they even rig that? Hard to believe that eBay would allow that

What utter rubbish, neither ebay nor TGG are involved in anything like you are claiming. Your claim is utterly absurd and what has probably happened is that the stock level changed whilst you were stuffing around. Why do you need to cancel? Why buy the item when you can add it to the cart and there are no problems this way. Talk about some people creating problems for themselves.

      It's not right!!

      Sheesh.

      • Your overreaction to my experience is both unnecessary and reeks of a vested interest.

Of course I thought it possible that stock magically regenerated after hours so I tried again after the full price purchase went through and once again, stock was out.

To top it all off I decided to get the similarly priced LG microwave and the discount went through without problem.

Until I checked my PayPal and found I have been charged full price.

        • -2

Your overreaction to my experience is both unnecessary and reeks of a vested interest.

Your experience like your claim that you paid full price because you can't be bothered to see the funding source of the paypal transaction? LOL.

Of course I thought it possible that stock magically regenerated after hours so I tried again after the full price purchase went through and once again, stock was out.

Stock is constantly being updated and you can see this from the listing history.

To top it all off I decided to get the similarly priced LG microwave and the discount went through without problem.

So now ebay and TGG are pushing you towards a LG microwave…. conspiracy…..

Until I checked my PayPal and found I have been charged full price.

You would think that people would actually be able to work out the transaction details and see the funding source! These sales are not new and it's not that hard to click on the details for the transaction but instead let's jump onto a website and complain.

    • Skeptical of your claim since the ebay/paypal transaction does not work that way. Tried the discount code and everything is fine.

  • Wow, TV I was watching increased by $200ish!

  • The Electrolux Washing Machine I was going to buy went from $519 to $549 from yesterday to today.

  • I bought a GVA 43inch TV for my dad for $399 after the discount. He was after a cheap ~40inch TV urgently, and it was either this or a 40inch from BigW for $369.

  • -1

11 F&P washing machines on their website versus 4 on eBay :/

    • Are they meant to have their entire inventory on eBay?

      • Sorry if I was disappointed and commented as such. Seems standard stuff in this thread.

        • No problem. But are they or not?

        • @eug: I'd suggest yes they should since they're choosing to use it as a store front. I could understand price variations due to the difference in merch fees but not stock.

        • +3

Why should they have all their stock online on ebay when they have their website for this purpose? Ebay takes a long time to list products and it's not something that any store would do given the high fees to sell there, rather put a small percentage online and drive them to their website or physical stores. I suppose you think they should also list every single product with google advertising as well?

        • @Maverick-au:No, advertisements are only snapshop of a couple of items.

My disappointment stands and my WM purchase will simply wait for another time. Enjoy your day.

  • well, interesting here: they increased the price for the Canon 70-200 lens this morning from $2599 to $2699 (I purchased it at this price around lunch time). Only tonight I found out that they dropped the price to $2588 and have been selling since 2pm. In 2 hours time, I lost $111.

Anyone had experience contacting TGG and ask for a refund of the difference? I guess it will be very hard to get a partial refund, consider the voucher used.

I can't believe that you're seriously asking this question. Apart from the logistics of this with the voucher and payment to the stores being separate but would you pay them extra money if the price went up before you collected it?

      • -1

Why not? The good guys have a 120% difference price guarantee for 30 days after purchase.

        • -1

Why not? The good guys have a 120% difference price guarantee for 30 days after purchase.

Is it really that hard to understand? For a start with the ebay 20% off coupon how do you come to the conclusion that he paid more?

And before you tell everyone that the 120% guarantee applies you might want to take a look because it does not.

          "Terms and Conditions:

          30 Day Price Guarantee

To be eligible for a 30 Day Price Guarantee claim your purchase date must be within 30 days of any claim lodged. Evidence of competitor’s lower advertised price must also be provided. Purchase must be paid in full and delivered and applies to personal shoppers only. Limit one claim per invoice.

Eligible claims will receive a refund of 120% of the difference issued via the same payment method as the original transaction in store. For claims in store the item available must be sold by an authorised dealer in Australia for the relevant manufacturer and available for immediate shipment. The item must be for the same brand and model and the product must be new and factory sealed. It must also be subject to a manufacturer’s warranty issued and applicable in Australia. Competitor’s prices must be in Australian dollars and will be adjusted for any fees, taxes or other charges such as shipping.

30 Day Price Guarantee excludes The Good Guys own pricing; Boxing Day or special event prices, advertising errors or misprints, cash backs & discounts offered by a supplier or another third party, bonus offers, limited or minimum quantity offers, clearance, online only offers, promo code offers, finance offers, Agency Brands, commercial sales and items sold on marketplace websites such as eBay (including The Good Guys eBay store). The terms and conditions of our "30 Day Price Guarantee” are subject to change without notice. If we’ve offered to price beat a competitor before you bought, this voids the 30 Day Price Guarantee claim."

      • I wish I had the option to pick it up from the store. It was delivered as none of TGG stores nearby had stock. Asked TGG support and was told refund of the difference is not possible. They did advise me to contact the store which processed my order to see if they accept return. I will ring the store and see what they respond.

It is a gift for mum who recently got into photography. I might have to just suck it up at the end of the day.

        • How did you go with the delivery? Have you received the item yet or a tracking number?
I purchased mine 3 days ago and have not received any calls or tracking information.

        • Mine arrived yesterday and I did receive several updates with tracking number etc.

    • Just buy it again and refund the first one.

    • I had a similar experience with a purchase added to my checkout at the cheaper usual price $458, then checkout and price went up $489, paid for my dryer then a hour later the price was back at the cheaper price $458 and has been that way ever since, I guess I could have cancelled my order and rebuy at the cheaper price but didn't want to stuff around the local store who had initiated my allocation and delivery time.

I contacted customer support asking if there was a possibility of a refund of the $31 difference but got shot down

price fluctuate…yeah as soon as the 20% sale started

      Their response
"Hi there, Thanks for your email. In many cases our prices do fluctuate due to our 'Price Match Guarantee'. In this case another supplier also had this item listed for a similar price, so as part of our guarantee we will reduce the price for the same period of time.

      We apologise for the inconvenience."

  • -1

    Price gauging at its finest.

  • Oh man. What the hell. Was going to buy a top loader washing machine and they pull this stunt.

Not going to use a "dick" pun, but this is a kick to the nuts. XD

  • I still have hope they might have a good group buy ebay deal tomorrow that can still make this coupon worth it.. Otherwise they can get stuffed.

  • I guess some items aren't bad after all. Not sure if TGG jacked up the price on the Bissell carpet cleaner 39QCF but after applying the discount, it comes down to $167.20 — cheaper than elsewhere.

PS: it's kind of interesting how this carpet cleaner doesn't come up under their listed categories. Good thing I decided to hit "search" on their shop.

  • Range hood "out of stock" the night before the sale. I have been watching this for 3 months. Will still give it a +1 as I'm sure there are some deals around. Thanks

  • Picked up some logitech z632 speakers for cheaper than what was the cheapest on eBay! Thanks OP!

  • +1

s6 edge 32gb black or 64gb pearl increased to 1149 from 997 or lower just 10 mins ago or so!

    • I saw that, freaking dodgy.

I think they saw how many were sold yesterday and thought they may try to cash in on the extra/predicted volume for extra profit.

It might come down tomorrow haha.

  • +3

Deal is almost non-existent. Now they removed the free click and collect as well. Really disappointing, I could find much better deals on Dick Smith sale.

    • +2

The click and collect thing I can almost sorta understand. They've probably pissed off the franchisees as much as they have the OzBargain community with this one. I bet nobody actually bothered to tell franchise owners that they'll be dealing with hordes of angry "professionals" (thanks, Gerry!) flooding their store with orders that deplete their stock and having to deal with the customer service backlash from the eBay antics.

TL;DR - be nice to your store. They're probably copping it right now.

      • Agreed to this mate…Just got back from collecting my stuff here in VIC @ Maribyrnong GG… They were getting smashed had stock everywhere behind counter and heard them talking about Ebay sales are crazy.

    • Wish i grabbed my dishwasher yesterday now it is an extra $40 for shipping and i gotta wait a week. Pretty annoying.

      • When it comes to sales, waiting isn't usually the best move. Someone else might buy the stock in your local store.

  • I desperately need a decent laptop around $800, I've spotted a few toshiba, hp and acer on the site. I would appreciate it if someone can help me choose one. Cheers.

  • So the price of the thing I bought didn't go up or down, but they did make an edit so I was curious what it was: it seems they've removed the ability to see past sales, so you can't compare prices. i.e. the listing no longer shows "xxx sold" that you can click on.

    • Are you sure? That feature still seems to work for me, having just checked a couple of their items.

      • Maybe it's just my item then (the Philips Airfryer 9220)

  • +2

Bought Yamaha 5.1 home theater $448 yesterday for $358 plus 4% CR…good guys change price to $499 now, not so good guys ….thumb down

    • Price back down to $447!

  • Bought TomTom GPS yesterday for $268, today they jack it up to $279, the bad guys :(

  • Got my JBL Charge 2 this morning, less than 24 hour turnaround. Guess the $8 postage was worth it (not that i had a choice).

    • Delivered within 24 hours?? I ordered 21 hours ago and am still waiting for click and collect confirmation.

      • Last time I got no C&C confirmation so I just went there to pick it up.

        • They just called. They only have the display model in stock, so I've asked for the order to be transferred to another store.

        • @puffinfresh: I had a similar problem with Dick Smith just last month. Their system doesn't allow C&C transfers though. I had to cancel the order and get a refund, then order another one which they then gave a partial refund on to match the original price. Rather convoluted.

        • @scottb721:
Still waiting for them to get back to me. Revoked my positive vote on this deal after this fail, and reading all the other complaints.

        • I just got a call 48 hours after the original order saying my wife called yesterday (I'm single). I corrected them and said they called me yesterday because they didn't have stock, despite their eBay page saying they did. They can't transfer the order to another store because the store I requested "doesn't do eBay pick ups" even though they are listed on eBay as an available pick up location with stock. I told her to cancel the order and I'll order again direct to that store.

Tempted to just forget about it and buy a cheaper (albeit a little bit smaller) TV from Big W.

        • I see the original store I ordered from must have cancelled my order because eBay now lists that they have stock available. They don't though (other than the display model). So now someone else can have 48 hours wasted. Well done Good Guys Malaga.

Edit: And the new store, Osborne Park just called, SMSed, and emailed within an hour of placing the order to say it is available for pick up.

        • aaaaaaaand it was DOA. They were quick to replace it though.
