  • LOL they know how to cover their backsides with the ACCC. Just a question of timing.

    This from their FB page

"our pricing is in line with our most recent catalog, which was released last night, and a few items have had their prices altered based on this. Some items have been removed from our eBay marketplace to reflect stock or availability concerns. Let us know if we can assist with any other issues."

    • +2

The sneaky buggers know how to try it on don't they… hopefully the ACCC will see through this and put a stop to it, otherwise it's just a free run for everyone to just say "oh, it's just our new catalogue pricing" and it's a nice clean get out of jail free card.

      • ACCC will only work if you complain to them.

get complaining, I have done mine with two examples

    • But a large amount of items are in stock on their actual website, just now not on eBay.
I don't get why they do this? If eBay is absorbing the cost, wouldn't TGG want to make sales?

  • +4

Shame for the OP, as he's ending up with a deal with a lot of negs when it's not his fault.

Terrible practice by The Good Guys, not good enough. I've put my complaint in to the ACCC, and hopefully if they receive enough they'll take action.

    • Unfortunately you roll the dice when you post these ebay deals.

  • +1

All these 15% off and 20% off deals are becoming mostly a joke now where almost all of the retailers jack up their prices OR make the product out of stock. It's actually just benefiting them when ignorant people buy the product thinking they are getting 20% off, but in reality, they are paying more than the normal price.

    This should seriously be stopped!

  • The best deals with eBay is when eBay suddenly came up with 15% discount over the weekend, that doesn't give ample time for the retailers to adjust their pricing or stock availability.

    • Read my post above….

  • +2

Boo. Had an item in my cart that was in stock and suddenly it's not at the store I selected.

  • Purchased a Fitbit Charge HR for $130~ after discount and a Nutri Bullet for $118…

    Good prices for me..

  • The Good Guys become the Bad Guys.

Saw you revoked your + in an earlier comment so can't neg now… Allow me to on your behalf, fiddy!

  • Ridiculous. All TV prices have increased. The 20% still makes it cheaper than before however you aren't really getting 20% off.

  • +1

Poor excuse from them about the catalogue prices being altered, how is it ethical that an item sitting in the warehouse the night before can increase in price. Its not like its a new batch.

  • Missed out on the Dicksmith 30% off deal for the Tab S2 so Bought the Samsung Tab S from Myer deal $393 but was given the display one as that's the last one they had, is it worth buying the Tab S2 now and sell off or return the Tab S from Myer?

    • If the 4:3 aspect ratio will suit your uses, then yes, IMHO. I find the Tab S2 a lot smoother and zippier than the S.

    • I got back ordered on the Myer deal. So I cancelled it and got the s2 here.
I think it costs approximately 20 more after discounts (+trs in November) for me. Which I think it should be good fit processor upgrade.
Return it would be best, might be hard to offload the display stock. (Did you get an additional discount for the display stock?)

      • No I didn't. So you have cancelled yours? If you haven't yet I wouldn't mind buy that off you for price you paid and return the display model to Myer. Played with it for a few hours I quite like 10:19 aspect ratio so don't mind using the Tab S but you are right only 30 more for a newer model and processor hm… Look like the Tab S will go back to Myer that is

        • It was on backorder on the online system, and I just cancel the order.
          Would have helped you…

    • AMOLED screen + display model is not a good combination. I say return it, especially if you didn't get a discount for it.

      • Got mine Tab S from officeworks 3 weeks ago for 369$ is it worth upgrading? Main usage is watching movies and net surfing.

        • I wouldn't say so. Upgrading each generation is never really worth it IMO.

  • Hey, can anyone help me out. When you make a purchase via the eBay store, do they issue a tax invoice from The Good Guys directly? Just wanting to make a claim via the Tourist Refund Scheme. Thanks.

    • None to my email. I THINK you get one when the item is collected but hoping someone can confirm..

    • +1

Yes you'll get a tax invoice from TGG when you pick it up. It also states the original price before the discount too so you can claim a little more back from TRS

  • +2

I feel for all you guys getting burned but really just wanted to let people know that if you're looking at less trendy (boring) household appliances and such there are some good savings here. Few personal examples. I ordered the following 3 items for which no prices changed.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121500237907
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Sharp-SJF624STSL-624L-French-Door…
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Technika-60cm-Induction-Cookt…

The prices are already about market leading so get your 20%+4% and save some dollars home renovators :)

just be careful with the sharp fridge. it doesnt fit in a standard doorway. even though you can remove the doors of the fridge to "make it fit" the middle black bar is non removable which makes the depth too big to fit.. in a standard doorway… otherwise i would have snapped this one up

      • +1

        Fingers crossed!

I am wondering why GoodGuys jacks up prices or make them out of stock? Can anyone give a logical reason?
As I understand from previous of this kind of deals, the discounted price is coughed up by eBay, so the retailer is still receiving the full amount of their listing price. I see them do this, but keep wondering why…? Their sale margin today and before today wouldn't be any different isn't it? They would get the amount they listed anyway.

    • +1

Because it tricks people into thinking they are getting a good deal so they purchase. And saves the retailer from actually giving them a good deal.

      • +1

What about putting those items out of stock? What's the benefit in that? If they could sell those items on the price they sold yesterday, I don't know why they couldn't sell it for the listing price today… They get the exact same margin as yesterday, it is eBay whom will be losing the 20% difference.

Unless eBay and them have some kind of 'deal cut' and they need to cough up some of the 20% difference somehow.

        • I've got no idea why they would make some of them out of stock. But you can bet that these items would probably cost them quite a bit to genuinely discount. You might find they are in the lower margin categories.

          I can take some guesses:
          - Would be really obvious if they jacked the prices up on these items. Maybe these ones don't have a history of fluctuation.
          - Time, someone needs to do it. maybe it's easier just to delist them. But i'm not sure, I assume they have some API going for listings and it's not some chump at a keyboard all day.
          - Item might have an advertised RRP they can't get out of
          - They might have agreed to sell them for X with the supplier and can't sell them lower than that (i believe this is illegal https://www.accc.gov.au/business/anti-competitive-behaviour/…)

        • +1

          @ChickenTalon:

These do not apply, because they are still selling them at the listing price, no difference at all. Their tax invoice is still stating the listing price and they are still receiving the full listing price amount. It would be eBay who is taking the hit on the 20% price difference.

But again, we do not really know what's the deal between eBay and them, I imagine they (Good Guys) must have to cough up some of the costs for this promotion, eBay wouldn't have just marketed the whole thing with no extra costs to Good Guys. Nothing's free right?

        • +1

          @wildstone:

No, you don't know what the deal is between ebay and TGG.

But I'll bet there is one. If I was ebay and offering a discount out of my own pocket, then I'd sure as hell be asking the retailer to do some work. Or moving along to the next retailer who will play ball.

    • I thought I read somewhere in the fine print of ebay's terms that any store (that meets a certain criteria) can get ebay to make them a discount code. It is a tool/gimmick that ebay provides large volume sellers.

I could be wrong, but eBay isn't funding anything to them. This is of course very different from the genuine sales where ebay does subsides every store.

changing my votes.. too bad i can't neg.
But we should have expected this anyway

20 minutes into eBay Good Guys and chill and they raise the prices…

    • 8 hours into this comment and chill and some tool downvoted it.

I just got a Panasonic 65" UHD TV (65CX640) for $2199. They even reduced the price from last night!!! Maybe they are dodgy and they want to get rid of them quick haha

    • The LG 60" is better as it has 3D and is 200hz.

  • I don't understand why they'd jack up the prices / hide items when eBay is taking the hit. The only thing I can think of is eBay telling them to do it so they don't lose as much money. It is a partnership after all, eBay probably knows that everyone would buy an iPhone/iPad which would cause them to lose too much money on the discounts hence told them to hide it. I don't see why else TGG would be stupid enough to want to remove them.

    • +1

How do you know that TGG gets this promo and advertising for completely free? Do you really think eBay gives them free front page advertising and pays the 20% without getting anything in return?

      • hmmm yeah good point. I would still think that TGG doesn't actually lose out on anything though.

    • I highly doubt ebay has anything to do with this deal, tgg would be taking the 20% hit, tgg probably just get a discount on fees & free advertising from eBay for doing the promo

      • -4

From all previous deals like the site wide discount few weeks ago, the seller does not take the hit, eBay coughed them up.
If the seller sells an item for $10, the seller gets $10, but you paid $8 and eBay paid $2.

        • +2

This isn't site wide though. Its Good Guys specific

        • as Thrawn said this is specific to tgg its not a sight wide sale, if ebay where taking the hit there would be no reason to remove products or up prices

        • The site wide deal is completely seperate to the official eBay store promo deals like TGG, Kogan, Teds, supercheap, Masters, BigW etc. Those stores get promoted on the front page and emails sent out and other external marketing. Most likely they are paying for it in someway. There is no way eBay is doing it out of goodwill and shouting the 20% for free.

        • @Orpheus: Possibly to encourage TGG to actively market their products on eBay, rather than their own store?

  • Anyone know how to check the prices from yesterday? I am thinking about / probably going to grab a dishwasher but i just want to see how much cheaper it actually is.

    • per my previous note, i bought a fridge, oven and cooktop and none of them changed prices so with any luck you're in the clear! I'd just check it against Masters and Hardly Normal for a sanity check.

    • +1

Anyone know how to check the prices from yesterday?

Unfortunately you can't, unless someone bought one yesterday.

I am thinking about / probably going to grab a dishwasher but i just want to see how much cheaper it actually is.

Why not compare it with all the usual retailers to see if it's a good price? appliancesdirect, harvey, TGG, JB, etc.

sucks. I'm gonna pass on this offer. I don't think they realise how much damage they do to their brand when they do these sort of actions.

  • Just picked up a Dyson AM09 - heater/ fan : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121685626579
Price didn't increase last night. Cheapest price I've found with 24% off $629 = $478.04.

Watched a fridge last night, one of the bar fridges for around $250 - up by 20% today. Shady as hell, no deal on this.

  • +5

Once again these piece of shit sales that jack prices up before they start. This is ridiculous and I feel sorry for the people who are not on Ozbargain to see our comments or for whatever reason to realize they are being gypped.

  • I could have sworn the original link that this deal linked to had a banner on the ebay page saying 'still got your $50 voucher….. (followed by this 20% off Good Guys deal)'…. am i mistaken or dreamt it?

    • You weren't dreaming, I saw that too.

      • Strange for them to have removed it…

wow, i wonder if TGG is reading this. Or my message to them. Or my ACCC complaint was passed on very quickly.

Some of the prices are back down!
Was $999 this morning. now $884
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Samsung-SM-G920IZKAXSA-Galaxy-S6-…

Also this one is back down, but not before a few people were suckered in at the morning price of $1049
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nikon-VBK440XA-D5500-Single-Lens-…

Lucky i included screen shots in my ACCC complaint, but good to see them doing the right thing on a few listings.

    • The S6 was 799 yesterday so still a dick move by them. I think the only reason they reduced the S6 32gb because it was stupid to have it cost more than the 64gb. Still not convinced TGG increasing the price $100 from yesterday is the right thing though…

    • hmm can't help but feel a bit bait and switched

I added the $458.00 Fisher & Paykel 5kg Sensor Dryer to my shopping cart, when I proceeded to checkout to pay for my items I was greeted with a pop up window informing me that the Dryer price changed from $458.00 to $489.00 a increase of $31, I paid for my items and literally a short time later the Dryer I purchased was put back to the previous price $458.00 again

I don't know if it was a mistake raising the price prematurely but I can't help but feel disappointed and a bit burnt by bait and switch especially when the previous lower $458.00 still stands.

what would my chances be to get the increase of $31 refunded?

      • +1

I think you're missing the "switch" part.

You should contact them on ebay and ask about it.

    • Well done. You just scared their Sh!t out.

  • Cant combine shipping cost for the coffee capsules. So useless deal for me personally

  • +2

Can someone submit this to today tonight or a current affair to help investigate these (DSE and TGG) fraudulent deals on our behalf? This needs to be made bigger than just ozbargain.

    • +2

Submitted. Will provide an update if they get back to me.

  • Luckily the one item that I wanted to buy has not had its price jacked up…still, what a scummy move on the part of TGG to do that to so many other items that people wanted to buy. I won't add a negative vote since it's not the OP's fault that this has happened, but I do think I might add my voice to the growing number of complaints to the ACCC.

    https://www.accc.gov.au/contact-us/contact-the-accc/consumer…

    • +6

I won't add a negative vote since it's not the OP's fault that this has happened,

You should vote for the actual deal, not the person. This is OzBargain, not Reddit.

      • +3

I did get a good deal thanks to the OP bringing this sale to my attention though, so I am still reluctant to neg. All the same, I've submitted the ACCC complaint.

  • +4

Another neg for their dodgy practice of jacking up the prices.
Shame on Good Guys following Dick Smith and Harvey Norman

  • well I grabbed a WD 1TB passport for under $80, the price hadn't changed from yesterday luckily….

    • That is not a bargain at all, though not too expensive.

      • I know its not great but needed one for work ASAP, couldnt wait too long for the next bargain and I was sure as hell wasnt paying $99 ! so it was good for me :)

  • hi all,

TGG have 30 days return policy, but if buy from ebay, how will i get refunded ? walk in to store or call up head office ?

    • +1

I had issue with a GPS bought of Ebay TGG store. It was within 14 days, and they offered either full refund in-store or replacement with a new one, I accepted the latter option.

  • These practices don't fly round these parts, pardner…..

  • bit of an impulse buy. Hope I don't regret!

    Bought S2 Tab 8.0 wifi only & srs-x3b. 444.80 total. Thanks OP!

  • -4

I suggest that people check their payments after processing. I applied the 20% off during processing and it displayed the discounted price total, but then they processed payment for the full amount!

    • Did you check your bank/pay pal account?
