I have 3 of these in my garage as spares from the last deal. Its a basic little laser but work off my nas usb and can print to it using print apps on my android/ios devices.

  • Not too bad. Comes with a starter toner cartridge good for 700 pages (I think that's what it was). Normal one is about $35-7 and 1000 pages. Mac & Windows. No USB cable in box.

    • Any idea if these can be rest like you can do on the HL2130 and HL2132 models? Basically gets you double the number of prints.

      • rest? Not sure what you're asking there? Do you mean 'can they sleep' - preventing the startup rigmarole which can use toner (not sure if it does that). I would presume they can. I know ink jet printers use heaps when they startup, which makes them bad if you only print the occasional page and turn it off between. I've had one get way under 50 pages from a set of cartridges because of this.

        • @unity1:
What does that achieve? Reset the page count if you use a refilled toner cartridge?

        • Toner printers are not like injket printers (no liquid). They do not use up any thing on startup.

Also you would not get double the amount of prints just by resetting a laser printer as in doesn't some how magically inject more toner into the toner cartridge. If you use draft printout mode instead of normal it may use less toner than normal mode but that's the only way you'd save toner.

        • @wfdTamar: When your printer stops printing because it's telling you you have no toner left, the above procedure resets something and allows you to continue printing

        • @unity1:
Oke doke. I was just thinking reset if the printer doesn't like you using refilled toner cartridges.

    • Mac, Windows AND Linux.

Can download either a deb, or rpm binary CUPS wrapper. OR! The source code to build your own wrapper on whatever distro.

If you're a Linux user at home, Brother have some great support for it.

I remember seeing BEST21 code can be applied to $49+ of spending. Guess they removed it after identifying the flaw

  • I managed to purchase one just after 8am. The code was valid earlier this morning for spends of $49 and over. Gotta be quick.

Lucky you. They just sent an apology email saying it was an error.

      • Me too, except the reason was "stock unavailability" Dang it!

  • Perhaps try the HP Officejet 2620 at Harvey Norman for $17. Bought one previously - printer and scanner not bad given the price.

    • Bare in mind that is an inkjet printer which does burn up ink every time it's started up.

  • Seems like that was an error. was meant to be 21 off 99. Glad you guys got some.

Picked mine up just now. It will replace an existing HL-1110 once that has gone through it's initial cartridge. It still escapes me how a marketing model like this will ever work for Brother when a new printer incl. cartridge is a lot cheaper than the cartridge itself?

  • As i was coming home from work. This local computer shop was closing down. The guy literally gave me 2 brand new Brother HL-2040 printer. Both had sealed cartridges which print 1500 pages each. They were in one box with a HN price tag of $199 for the printer (or that's how much he bought them for each)
