The weights are only concrete / plaster-filled plastic but this is the cheapest I've seen this set EVER.

6 x 1.25kg

Very limited availability but there is an easy postcode-checker to find a store with stock.

Guy Leech Suspension Training System $20 save $79

No, I'm not some weird Guy Leech fan - but I haven't seen this any cheaper than $58 before!

Lots of stock around me in Sydney.

these plastic weights will crack over time, or if u drop on hard surfaces..

I got similar ones and the plastic has cracked and I need to repair it.

Can you get iron ones for $40?

        • Don't know

just pointing out that these plastic ones are cheap for a reason

I think aldi sold some iron plates in their fitness sales

      • very good tip, i own the same ones

  • Haven't seen any suspension training setup that cheap before, nice one.

    • No suspension training at Woden, even though the website says there are. Called Canberra Airport and they said they have about 20.

  • Sounds nice.
Anyone know the benefits between the concrete filled weights and the iron cast ones?
I know the concrete filled ones are cheaper but I also know people that prefer the iron cast ones.
Personally I think they do the same thing, but is there something I'm missing?

Biggest difference would be longetivity and size of plates. Concrete will be bigger for similar sized weight. Also concrete and plastic will crack over time vs rust for the iron. Your mileage may vary depending on use. Sometimes you might get iron plate dumbbell set at some sport stores unadvertised at a similar price.

be careful that you read the contents of the box carefullly

i once bought a dumbell set. picture on teh front showed a set of 2 (ie. a pair)

got home, only 1 dumbbell and plates.

yes, i felt like a real 'dumbbell' that day

rust is less common unless u keep it soak in water

most blacked iron plates, I haven't seen any rust or very minimal on mine.

also u can just respray it.

      in terms of weight
      they are the same

      in terms of size
the plastic ones are more thicker and bigger than iron ones..

plastic will crack and possibly peel off over time
      which would then require repair.
I just repaired my plastic one recently.
You should not drop them on hard surfaces as well.

they also don't have heavier weights in plastic/concrete form

  • For what it's worth, I've never used concrete filled plates, but I still have two 5kg concrete-filled dumbbells that are twenty-five years old. No cracks or issues. Of course they might make them cheaper than they used to back then.

A nice cheap way to test it out before spending big on real iron.

  • Cheap! But out of stock basically everywhere in VIC (Dumbbells)

Unfortunately Big W stock levels need to be taken with a "grain" of salt. By "grain" I mean several large buckets.

There was some media coverage on it earlier in the year. Basically they introduced a new stock management system that is supposed to be way more detailed and allow better use of autostocking. But it was a massive stuff up and stores literally went almost a year without stock levels being properly adjusted or the ability to properly add new stock into their system. The IT side of things has now been fixed but not all stores would of had physical stocktakes yet to adjust their bogus Stock On Hand levels.

I think they same guys designed their website search. It's amazeballs, you search for buckets and it returns blankets and pool toys.

  • I bought 20kg celcius dumbbell (this one -http://www.rebelsport.com.au/Product/Celsius-20kg-Weight-Set/406382?menuFrom=409) from Rebel sports Docklands for $35 2 weeks ago.. combined closing down 50% off and their site was showing it for $70 at that time. I still think they will be able to give for $35 if you try to negotiate.

  • Heads up that BigW Brisbane City had the 20kg set of dumbbells for $5 a set and the Guy Leech Weight Bench with bar and 30kg of weights included for $20.

    • What ?! That's madness : )

  • I'd be more inclined to wait for a gym or closing down/police/sheriff's auction and buy iron weight sets. But that's me.

Weights can often be had for free if you're willing to wait for your fat friends to give up their fitness phase.

    • People are so cynical… Unfortunately, cynicism has a far greater correlation to reality than optimism and belief in change. I have become less aspirational and more cynical as I have aged. One's faith in humanity wanes.

      • I wasn't trying to be cynical, just trying to give real bargain advice. Real people buy real fitness gear all the time, with the expectation that having the equipment will motivate change in their lives. I was given about $300 in good iron weights by a colleague who was going to throw them out if I didn't take them. After that experience, I will never again buy fitness gear at retail, at sale price, whatever. There's nearly always a way to get this kind of stuff for next to nothing.

  • Buy these and see if you use them. If you don't, no big loss. If this is the start of your fitness journey then you can build on this. I bought a set like this from K-Mart and played with it for a while, eventually got cut into a nice routine and then bought some iron from Vinnies over time (every few times I would go in there, a new couple weight plates) and now I have a decent collection.

  • Two stores say "LOW STOCK - call store". Decided to wait 2 hours till the 8am openning time, then called but they say they don't have any stock??? but why does online says "low stock". I don't have time to run around circles. So has anyone even actually bought one of these from this deal here?

  • Hey guys,

Bought the suspension training system for $5.50 yesterday from Big W Marketown. Was pretty happy with the deal.

It was in the Drop Zone aisle and yellow stickered at $5.50. No more stock I could see. But might be worth a look at your local.
