100GB ADSL2+ $39.99/Mth Including Line Rental or 300GB for $50/Mth - Exetel

510

It's back. Download limit is split 50-50 into peak and off-peak (1am-9am). No excess usage charges, but speed will be shaped.

For new and existing customers. New customers will need to pay a one-off Activation fee of $80 on a 12-month contract or $130 with no contract. BYO Modem.

Would be surprised to see if there is anything cheaper out there, even after the Activation fee. Remember this includes line rental.

After they massively jacked up prices, maybe they learnt their lesson and now this looks like a backflip? But they don't seem to have announced it. I've just switched to the new pricing. If I didn't switch I would've kept on paying more so I think this is especially great for existing customers.

I know they breached our trust but hopefully this price is here to stay as a long-running deal.

The ISP that kicks its subscribers off for high usage when they haven't even used their quota. No thanks.

Kicked off? Do you mean forced onto a more expensive plan? Anyways, this looks like a backflip as I said.

If you know of something cheaper please share…

There was reports of people being terminated who hadn't even used their quota on Whirlpool.

Regardless, shoddy business who doesn't deserve any more exposure after the way they treated their customers.

This is just a play to get back some of the many customers they lost.

There have been several times that Exetel have kicked off people for using too much of an unlimited plan. And this is coming from an Exetel customer for many years (I was never kicked off, but followed the Whirlpool threads and other forum posts of people who were).

I heard they're forcing all their customers that are on Telstra infrastructure, onto Optus…

Glad I didn't join them when I switched earlier this year…

Unless you need a cheap connection for your Grandma so she can forward funny emails from 1998, my advice is to stay away from this mob.

    • -1

Why? It's been great for me.

      • +2

        lol

    • What about a cheap connection for my sister so she can download random things and browse websites? Connection stability isn't an issue as she never games or anything.

$49.99 for me (22km from Melbourne CBD) plus by the time you add in a call plan it is not even competitive with my current "Telstra" based provider.

I had a really slow speed with them (2-3 Mb/s download, up to 0.8 Mb/s upload), but no issues at all for the 18 months while was with them.
It was $44.99 a month ago for the same plan, but before this it was $39.99 for 100Gb without 50-50 split ;(
Practically they came back to the previous price but with less data (as not many people use their data during nights)…

      You don't consider 2-3 Mb/s download an issue ?

      • nope, as it was fair enough for my necessities…
I had a plan $49.99, which was including 100Gb of data, a line rental and unlimited calls within Australia. That exactly what I wanted to have at that stage.

    • Is that MegaBYTE or MegaBIT?

Edit: dumb question.. 0.8MB/s on ADSL 2 is virtually impossible. Must be MegaBIT.

Was Overseas. Came back and found out I had been kicked off my 500GB plan and put on a 1TB plan at a cost of $109 per month.. $40 more expensive than my old plan. Terrible notice and CS. I'm a long term customer and would not recommend this ISP. Previously had congestion issues which Exetel couldn't fix.

Edit: By the way the above plan isn't available for OFF-NET users. I get the following options. Not worth it:-

    T-R - Bundled - 1TB $0 500GB Peak
    500 GB Off Peak $75 $25.00 $100 $100 Month-to-month

    T-R - Bundled - 300 GB $0 150GB Peak
    150 GB Off Peak $55 $25.00 $80 $80 Month-to-month

    T-R - Bundled - 100 GB $0 50GB Peak
    50 GB Off Peak $45 $25.00 $70 $70 Month-to-month

Same here. I was on an old $29.95/month plan and when I came back from overseas, I found out that I was switched to their highest 1TB plan even though there are other plans closer to my original plan like the $39.95/month plan. They regularly kick out users who downloads way past their quota even from their "Unlimited" plans.

They also have a habit of increasing their prices even while you are still within the contract period. Only good thing is when you call their support line, someone answers the phone.

Anyone thinking of switching to Exetel, I advise to read the Exetel forum on Whirpool forums first.

        The janitor ???

        • it'd probably be some "support officer" living half way across the globe.

cheaper does not necessarily make it a better deal… It also needs to work properly…

        • -2

It does for me. Fast speeds and in 2 years only one outage.

Was a customer for over 7 years and had to go to the TIO things got so bad in the end. I was a huge advocate for a long time, but the throttling and lack of willingness to help at any point was too much.

Moved to Internode with a much lower cap but at least one I could use. Can't encourage people enough to stay away.

I signed up for this deal over a year ago and it was the biggest mistake. Very slow speeds and websites timing out. I jumped ship as soon as I could after the 12 month contract was up.

The costs and hassle of transferring to exetel then reconnecting again at my old provider made it worse.

I used to pay $59.95 for 500GB including line rental until they decided to jack up their prices without even giving you an option.
At my workplace we had an unlimited exetel connection. We received a letter saying they were cutting us off. Most likely because we were using too much data. Make sure you do not sign up to the unlimited plan!

Do yourself a favor and use Telstra or another ISP.

If you want to join an ISP that shows very little care for the customers, join them.
It is a not a "backflip". It is a tactic.

  • Pathetic customer service, rude staff, lots of technical issues and much much more. Make a complaint to ombudsman and they will cut you off.

  • After seeing them screw many many people over in the past, they finally did it to me with the forced plan move, and even charged me an extra month for not giving 30 days notice of my move away from them (of course I called up and got a refund, but the fact that they did it by default is bad enough). Worse still is the number of people who were still under contract that they did it to.

The new plans are still worse than the old ones, and there's the $80 activation charge for new customers even with a 12 month contract, so when you factor that in they're really not that competitive. As an example, I'm now paying $85 a month atm with Foxtel for 500GB any time including unlimited local and national calls, compared to $80 a month (regional) with Exetel for 150GB peak 150GB offpeak plus call costs (or $90 for unlimited calls).

After their latest efforts of trying to increase my monthly costs by $40 a month, with ~20 days notice, I really can't recommend Exetel to anyone any more.

  • You guys who got the opportunity to switch plans are lucky! I didn't even scratch my quota and got the notice of termination. I offered to go on a higher plan and they still said no, see you later!? Absolute drones running the company now ever since the founder passed away.

    • To be fair, they were kicking people off unlimited plans when the founder was still around too.

  • I was one of the people who had a connection for 3ish years and was then told I was being disconnected with no reason provided and the CEO publicly trying to put the blame on the customers without actually providing any reasons. I used less than half my 500GB limit most months, occasionally getting up to 300-350MB, and used 150-200 minutes per month of the bundled phone calls. Not excessive usage by any measure. I never got a single pirate download warning.

I would have been fine being moved to a different plan. I was not given that option.
