  • So where would you buy this from? Optus Store? Or any specific retailer?

  • It's already been mentioned here

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/209636

    • If it's not in the title it a valid post.

  • +1

This wouldn't be bad to use with their new mobile Internet deal

  • Would this be the Telstra 4GX 700Mhz compatible unit?

Does anyone know if its unlocked?

    • Prepaid Mobile broadband devices sold by Optus are hard locked (unable to be unlocked)
Postpaid devices are unlocked, however they will default to Optus settings regardless of sim present in device every time the device is power cycled.

(was the answer i got from them when i emailed them a week or so ago with that very question)

      • I confirm this. Tested with Telstra and Vodafone - both works. Just swap SIM, no fiddling with settings too.

  • $49 is cheap!
$69 is the new RRP now though, as they have dropped price due to new Wifi device being launched

  • With car kit? How does it work since it is an USB stick and without the computer?

    • It's works exactly like a pocket wifi modem but without the battery, hence the need to always have it plugged into a power source.

      • Advantage of this device is that you never have to worry about a dead battery. You can also just plug it into a USB plug point and it will work like any router. It can even be plugged into a portable power pack and you can now have Internet in an open park or seaside. The real problem with a device like this is that most plug points are at floor level indoors and reception may not be the best there. [Can be solved with a power block connection.]
Another big problem is that if you use it in a hotel, you might forget to take it with you. Keeping it in the car is really useful so you don't get too many "are we there yet" comments.
