Original price is $69, discount price $49 and clearance price $15. Not sure this price is exclusive for Browns Plains QLD store but at least Rocklea store is selling $49 and I asked for price match then grab 2 mores @$15.

This bar light is pretty good and best for kitchen or workstation. Check the price with your local store ask if they can match this price.. :D

  • I think that is 220 lumens total.

If anyone can get 220 lumen from each 20mA LED, there is a Nobel Prize or better awaiting them.

The bar is only 4.8W total (400mA @ 12V) so don't expect much. A bit dim for kitchen benches. And not directed either. Thats why they have had to discount them.

    • The packaging in the picture shows it as 14.8W total.

      • Mmm that's not a "1" next to the "4.8W". The two lines below have that line on the left too.

        • +1

Time for me to get new glasses it seems… made me look again and zoomed it up, yep, got it wrong.

    • I dare say that like a lot of this stuff, it's made with cheap, low quality LEDs bought for next to nothing and highly inflated by the time it hits the shop floor.
Just use a HK/China wholesale site and cut out the line of middlemen. Then you might pay what it's really worth (about 30c hahaha)

      • I've bought many cheap chinese LED lights before and can confidently say there is a large variance in quality. Pay peanuts and you'll really get cheap crap that isn't worth your time. Bunnings will never sell stuff that's as crappy as they'll lose money when you return it.

You can find good quality stuff from China, but it's always a gamble. Just have a look at the various posts here about fake XiaoMi power banks. Photos and specs look good, then you receive a fake.

        • I hear you and in most part I agree. The product on offer is distributed by Arlec.
I'm showing my vintage now when I state that I used to have them as a local manufacturer supplier - they made stuff and even then it was on a 2nd class quality.
Since they have pretty much switched to reselling cheap imports under their brand it seems the quality has suffered further.
Bunnies would just return (in batches no doubt) for credit any products that didn't cut it.

        • @rayski57: Oh yes I would also consider Arlec average when it comes to quality. But you can bet that Bunnings would make sure the products they sell meet some standards, especially electrical safety standards. I'm always wary over cheap mains-powered devices from China - they cut corners far too often, compromising on safety and reliability.

I've just had to replace 23 LED drivers at work as they were bottom-of-the-barrel crap from China. I replaced them with higher-end Taiwanese drivers and they've been running well so far.

You're kidding right? Do you know how many various heaters have been recalled because of catching fire by Bunnings? There are threads on whirlpool about heaters that have burnt through carpet and Bunnings just refund the customer, pay their costs and no recall is ever undertaken for other models.

And what does electrical safety standards have to do with the performance or longevity of a product? They have no or little relationship to each other. Bunnings has no special standards like you implied, they act the same as most other retailers and only think about how much profit they can make.

          Easily answered with one question.

Who sells safer products, and products that are more consistently of reasonable quality?

          • A major Australian retailer

          or

          • AliExpress

          A major Australian retailer
          AliExpress

AliExpress, you get stock that is new from the factory whereas the rubbish that Bunnings source is shipped from the factory, sits around for years in some cases before being sold. On AliExpress you can see feedback from other customers (similar to why Amazon is so popular) whereas Bunnings will do everything they can to bury bad customer feedback.

Bunnings has ongoing issues with all their cheap heaters every year without fail, they consistently sell rubbish like portable swimming pools with electrical hazards and they rely on Australia's utterly useless consumer laws that allow them to keep doing this.

Businesses like Bunnings have no regard for their customers or their customers property, it's all about selling the cheapest item for the highest profit.

OK, so you'll be perfectly comfortable with buying a $2 phone charger from AliExpress and giving it to your kids to use?

I wouldn't buy a cheap charger from either of them but I would buy a known charger brand from Aliexpress over rubbish from Bunnings for a fraction of the price.

Buying from somewhere just because they are a bricks and mortar is no guarantee of safety or performance.

Are you sure you'll receive a genuine one?

We should start a poll. Question:

Is buying an electrical item (e.g mains-powered LED light, phone charger) from a large retail chain in Australia safer than ordering a much cheaper item with the same advertised functionality from AliExpress?

Don't forget that the whole point was that you can pay a lot less on AliExpress for the same item.

You might not be aware that chinese factories can manufacture items that look identical from the outside but with much cheaper components inside.

        • @eug:

Are you sure you'll receive a genuine one?

          Not that hard to check.

Don't forget that the whole point was that you can pay a lot less on AliExpress for the same item.

That wasn't the question that you asked.

You might not be aware that chinese factories can manufacture items that look identical from the outside but with much cheaper components inside.

LOL, you're the one claiming that products from a B&M store are always safe!

        • I don't know why you only see what you want to see. Looks like it happens in other threads too.

I have no idea how you magically formed in your head the idea that electrical safety standards are related to performance and longevity, then pretended that I said it.

You should re-read my original post.

          I'll summarize it here:

          • There is a large variance in quality of products that you can buy off sites like AliExpress. The cheap stuff is outright dangerous and should never be purchased. e.g. LED bulbs or lamps with poorly-designed or nonisolated drivers, and similarly poorly-designed phone chargers.

          • Bunnings will never sell those cheap items. They will sell products that are at least low-midrange which would be far safer than the cheap crap I mentioned.

  • Thanks. Got some to try out.
