Jetstar Platinum MasterCard: $400 Travel Voucher or 40,000 QFF Points ($69 Annual Fee 1st Year)

390

This seemed like a decent deal $69 + $3k spend (over 60 days) = 40k QFF (+ 3k QFF pts or $60 Jetstar dollars).

Copied and pasted some highlights of the deal below:

Must have a minimum taxable income of $30,000, minimum credit limit is $6,000. Doesn't seem to unreasonable in comparison to some other cards.

  • The 40,000 bonus Qantas Points will be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer Account within 60 days of your first eligible purchase

I think the ANZ deal is better. There's also 50k points for $5k spend in three months. No annual fee for the first year is the best part.

    • +1

Agreed 100%. You get an additional month to spend the higher threshold and it's a much better card overall.

This is not bad, just that the ANZ one is better.

    • +4

ANZ deal - Not applicable to existing card holders or if closed one within last 12 months.

this is one way it is better. It is all about those points, baby!

    • $5K spend? but it says "Minimum spend of $7500 in 3 months after approval"

      • +1

That's for the Black with 75k bonus QFF. There's a lower level card.

  • +2

The issuer is Macquarie bank and they will not approve most applications, so don't dent your credit score if your rating is not very good.

Is there a writeup by someone explaining on how to do all his stuff to obtain the flyer points? this would be really useful, I'm 18 - and going to LA in November and would be interested how to do all this to be able to upgrade my flight or whatnot..

    • Apply for credit card. Spend $3k in 60 days. Wait for QFF to clear. It's that simple.

      • Affecting credit rating? etc, from cancelling before annual fees if you get fee-less cards? etc

        • Minorly (anecdotal). You haven't left much time if you want to use points for that flight. (Given you have to spend $3k and wait for points to credit).

    • +2

Not trying to by snobby but if you are 18 and have a relatively low paying job then you aren't going to be approved for many of the high-point offers.

      • Luckily, I can apply for any offers around the 60k mark, sadly - not the latest ANZ one.

    • For LA you're probably better off getting a velocity AMEX, which get you 110k velocity points if you use a referral (ask me if you want a referral).

110k points would more than pay for an economy flight to LA. It's 135k points for a business class flight (both one-way).

You need an income of more than $70k though

      • Is this the one with a condition that you can't have had an Amex in the previous 12 months? If not, could you send a referral please.

  • I have this card as a backup to my AMEX. I chose Jetstar points instead of QFF points ($10k spend = $200 voucher). I pay rent and tax bills through it and it still allows you to earn Jetstar points for those transactions (don't know about QFF points, but I doubt it).

As a result I earn on average a $200 voucher every 2 months. I've saved on so many trips to NZ/Asia thanks to this card.

    • hey @Jayphen, how do you actually pay rent using credit cards? That sounds weird to me.

      • +3

My real estate agent accepts payment through deft.com.au, which allows credit card payments. There's a fee of 1.5% but that's it

        • +1

What card is that? That sounds like an amazing points to dollar conversion ratio. My current card, HSBC Platinum Frequent Flyer - the 1.5% fee would amount to more than the value of the QFF points accrued from paying rent using it.

        • -1

          @achyd1: It's the Jetstar Platinum card…

and that ratio ends up at 2c per point, so slightly better than 1.5%

    • +2

You really earn $50 and not $200 if you pay 1.5% credit card fee on $10k.

      • I know. It's a bit more than that because my rent isn't 5k/month, and I previously used this card for all purchases (have now started using my AMEX card instead)

The benefit of this card that appealed to me is the avoidance of the booking fee. An $8.50 booking fee for a $65 flight from syd to melb seemed pretty high (13%).

  • New in this.
Q1.If I don't redeem the point, are they expire after certain time?
Q2.if I redeem the voucher, how soon I should use the voucher?

    Thanks

    • Points don't expire.
Vouchers need to be used within 6 months from issue date and can be used towards any available flights.
Recently they have introduced some new benefits, like 10% off in-flight purchases etc.

I'm in the process of settling a house with a pre-approval for finance so I"m going to hold off for a month or so and then swoop in just before the end date of the offer.

I am a proud points collector across both Virgin Velocity and Qantas FF and take up these sorts of promos all the time.

Sure before the promo (or sometimes free) yearly annual fee is finished I cancel them out, generally even on this cancellation call they sometimes drop or waive the fee for the following year to entice you to stay with them.

In the past I haven't been able to spend as much as whats required with some cards, but I've worked out a neat trick. Whatever you have remaining on the minimum spend, just use paypal (with your card connected) and pay a friend from your funding source of the credit card, sure theres some fees but its generally worth it for the points (i.e. if you took this card out and couldn't' be bothered to rack up $3k of purchases, then pay your friend via paypal the $3k which will attract a fee of around $72.30) - at the end of the day its considered a purchase - of course get your money back off your friend and then pay the $3k +fees back! :@)

  • I paid $149 for this a similar deal 3 months ago ugh. Except it was for 50,000 points.

  • So if I get a credit limit of $6,000 and have a balance transfer of $2000, if I then make a purchase will I get the interest free days on the purchase? Or will any payments come off the interest free portion first? In effect making the purchases of $3000 subject to the 21% interest rate on the card?

  • I applied and am yet to hear anything ?
anyone else been accepted, declined or heard anything?

    • edit: wrong card, sorry

  • Bit the bullet and applied… upon submission got this screen:

    • nope haven't heard anything

  • +1

Just received a phone call asking me to send a payslip

  • +1

Just called and asked what was happening and was told my application was approved for $9k.

  • Links aren't currently working..

  • Card arrived today.

  • Does anyone know if your credit score improves when you keep (at least one) credit card for a long time (as it does in the US)? Is it better to have a lower credit line (e.g., $6K instead of $15k)?

  • I don't think it matters, I think it has more to do with making payments on time and not making too many applications within a short period.

  • Really annoyed with this card. applied for it. thought the 10 days waiting was odd, but went with it. after a while i figured it had been more than 10 business days and rang to find out the status. apparently they wanted a payslip, but no one had contacted me to ask for one! So i sent it through last thurs. rang today (wed) to see where it was at, hoping the card was in the mail as i had planned to pay for wedding reception with it to get the point spend sorted. She said they had queried my payslip as it wasn't a pdf version. Which AGAIN, they didnt ask me about, only found out when i rang 4 business days later. It is the only version i get. So she said they'd have to ring my payroll team, and it would be 10 business days from then. The reception is due to be paid today, there was probably a couple of days wiggle room, but not that much. according to them i applied on the 18th of september. there was no contact from the team regarding my app all the way through to the 8th of october. That's pretty poor service.

Wish i hadn't applied for this at all now.
