    Thanks, but no.

    • Damn I just ordered one.

      How can banggood be still selling this unit if it killed someone?

      I will request a refund.

      • Get a refund and just buy AU stock.

      • I can't see where it shows/says in that abc news article that it was this Banggood item that caused the electrocution? I suspect it was the really crappy type USB charger.

        • -2

          If you guy points is correct we should not buy phone from overseas because their chargers are also not approval even they may be Samsung or LG or Lenovo.

        • That USB wall plug was also sold at Officeworks. Since been removed

          @superforever:

          When I order a phone from overseas, I either ask the seller to keep the charger (ie: don't sent it to me), or toss the charger in the bin when it gets here.

          I'm probably being over-cautious. Chargers made by Samsung, LG, Lenovo et al are built to comply with a whole bunch of different international standards and they are safe. I use genuine Xiaomi chargers (power boards, smart sockets) and even the clone Belkin chargers, but I opened them up, inspected them and satisfied myself that they were safe before I used them.

          I've also opened, inspected and tested cheap junk chargers like the ones you're promoting, and threw them straight in the bin without ever using them. Chargers like the one you're promoting will cause electrocution and death.

          I understand that you wasted ten bucks on a dangerous charger and that you need others to buy in to the same 'deal' to feel good about what you've done, but a hurt ego really can't justify the risk you're taking.

          You really should just delete this deal.

    • We have already talked about this here.

        And yet you posted another 'deal' for a dangerous and illegal-to-use-in-Australia device? What's your point?

        You really should just delete this deal.

        • Is this specific unit the one that killed the lady? I am confused.

        • @daveaus:

          This is not the same model that electrocuted Sheryl Andeguer last June.

        • -3

          It's perfectly legal to use in Australia.

        • +1

          @snoo:

          It's perfectly legal to use in Australia

          However it is TOTALLY NOT LEGAL TO SELL into Australia.

          @llama:

          It's illegal to import & sell.

        • What is your point if you don't even click on the link and see who posted the other deal and what people said about these kind of USB charger.

          Also just did a search on USB charger on ozbargain. There are so many grey imported USB chargers posted before.

          Why people cannot post another one?

        • +1

          @superforever:

          It's controversial because at that price there's a good chance it has little to no mains voltage isolation or circuit/thermal protection, and therefore unlikely to be safe. The risk is high for $9.73

        • @snoo:

          Actually I understand that but who can tell whether the other USB chargers posted in ozbargain are safe or not?

        • +1

          @llama:

          The buyer is doing the importing, The sale occurs in China on their website. BG is in China and only has to respect Chinese laws.

        • @superforever:

          Also just did a search on USB charger on ozbargain. There are so many grey imported USB chargers posted before.

          If they are reported, the mods will add the warning about them being possibly unsafe to use.

        • @snoo:

          I think the lady that died was using a $2 one from a sunday market and not one of these.
          And the likelyhood is the one she purchased would look like a clone iphone one but those multicoloured ones you see.
          http://www.allureassure.com/product/usb-ac-power-adapter-wal…

          Funny thing is that you cant even find them on ebay anymore because they've basically self regulated knowing they are dangerous. Eg. they are too small for a good amount of spacing if you are using cheap parts.

          now the cheap AC adapters you see look like this

          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/EU-AC-Wall-Plug-To-Universal-USB-…

          now Im not going to say they are better or worse but PHYSICALLY the spacing is better because the circuitry is not packed into such a tight space.

          Personally I wouldnt buy one of these above cheapo ones - but I would buy a generic one that looked a bit better than this - eg. There are some generic/fake samsung chargers that look exactly like the genuine ones only the circle which has samsung on them doesnt say samsung.

          Now for this deal above - it looks like a huge box that doesnt look different from the genuine anker/tronsmart ones that are floating around. And in those ones; there is definitley adequate spacing so even if some corners were cut - it wouldnt pose a HUGE threat.

          @superforever:

          I clicked on the link and saw a bunch of uninformed and inaccurate speculation from people who clearly didn't understand what they're talking about. There is nothing in that thread to justify buying one of those devices or posting another 'deal' for one of those devices. The previous thread is, in any case, about an entirely different device.

          If you'd done any reading, had any education or experience in electronics and electrics, or opened a few of these devices yourself to see just how awfully unsafe they are, you'd be a lot less defensive about it. You made a bad decision, you lost ten bucks. Move on.

          You really should just delete this deal.

        • @douglasb:

          Then you should request ozbargain to ban all imported charger related post.

        • +1

          @superforever:

          No, that would be silly.

          You should really just delete this deal.

        • @douglasb:

          No, that would be silly.

          Why silly? All imported charger are without Aust safely check. Why would this one special?

        • +1

          @superforever:

          The good quality brand-name chargers are often built to comply with safety standards that are equivalent to the Australian safety standard.

          So,

          • look at the labels on the device,
          • confirm that the device is genuinely approved by that authority (check marks, serial numbers, compare internal appearance to the internal photos submitted by the manufacturer at certification, etc, etc),
          • compare the criteria for the standard to the Australian standard,
          • open the device and check it internally to confirm that it uses the appropriate design and construction techniques to make it safe,
          • conduct electrical tests to confirm that it is properly isolated.

          If the device passes all those checks, and you use it sensibly, it's likely to be pretty safe. Since you probably rendered it un-safe in the course of opening it and checking it, you should throw it away and buy a new one! You still shouldn't take the risk unless you have the qualifications and experience to assess the device properly.

          You really should just delete this deal.

    Totally non-approved and technically illegal to sell into this country.

    Power supplies and chargers are "High Risk" declared/prescribed articles and they require MANDATORY safety testing and certification.

    • +1

      "technically illegal"

      No technically about it.

    • +1

      Banggood is located in China and only has to respect Chinese laws. We are all doing the buying in CHina and then tehey send it thru. Nobody is breaking Australian selling laws. Whether its smart to buy this is another question.

  • Will this electrocute me?

    • +2

      See above comments. Do not buy.

      If you cannot afford a safe brand (eg anker) use the standard charger that comes with your device.

  • -1

    Looks like it has a C tick to me.

    • +1

      Looks like it has a C tick to me

      Yeah, looks like there is a C-Tick icon printed on it.

      a) Having an icon doesn't mean ANYTHING whatsoever.

      b) C-tick has nothing to do with safety.

      c) Cannot be approved with non-AU plug on it (since the plug and cable is part of any approvals)

      If it was genuinely approved, you can be assured that the seller would make a big deal about it.

      • -2

        Pretty sure the C-tick has everything to do with safety.

        • Most chinese products stamp on safety labels without actually having them tested. C-tick is for electromagnetic emissions… not so much concerned with you getting zapped

        • @krisspy:

          Go down any street in Australia and its not that difficult to spot people with chineese shit electronics with all that static noise. Most of the country has illegal/unsafe devices.

        • @krisspy:

          C-tick is also for EMR.

          But you're right its just a stamp.
