if you've got a plex server you can use plexconnect to get to your plex library through it! makes the appletv a winner imo

    • +1

If you want plex, there are better options e.g. $50 Android TV with Kodi.
Its Netflix that makes the AppleTv worth getting, IMHO.

This was $69 delivered just under 2 weeks ago thread also posted by the OP. That was the best time to buy.

      already covered in post

Not as good as last deal at $69 but for those still wanting one it comes to $79 still cheapest I can see atm

    • I was going to say $79 delivered still isn't a bad price.

    • Some missed it last time as it sold out, $79 best price atm, may suit some that are still after one or just wait out for the new model

    • Cant believe (given this price for the latest model) that the older 720p AppleTV (Gen2) are selling for $150-230 secondhand on eBay, if they are jailbroken and have Kodi and other apps installed.

    great device for Netflix

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but this promo code is targeted?

    • seems to be working on most accounts

      • also does not work on a lot of accounts which means it's still targeted

        • have you tried it? others posting deals using the rewards code also https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/206714

        • @RogueWolf: See second comment on that link, also the original thread about those promo codes was unpublished by mod because it's targeted. And yes, I've personally tried it and it does not work.

        • @fenetic: ok added "which might be targeted", maybe you should jump on COTD chat & ask why the code isnt working for you, know a few people who have used it without an issue

        • @RogueWolf: I spoke to COTD support last time when REWARD1 code was active. They told me since I wasn't subscribed to their newsletter I wasn't eligible. They gave me $20 credit anyways as a goodwill gesture. Got the Apple TV delivered for $49.
Today, when Is saw this deal I logged on to the website and added myself to the subscription list and then tried the code and it worked for me. So if someone wants they can try subscribing to the newsletter and then use the code.

        • @Bullzye: codes will work for customers who have made a purchase on there account before

        • @RogueWolf: Weird, because I made so many purchases before yet it did not work for me.

        • @fenetic: think you need to speak to COTD

        • @RogueWolf: They said because I'm not subscribed to the newsletter. Funny considering I keep getting spammed by them.

        • @fenetic: Try subscribing to their newsletter from COTD webpage and then using the code. Worked for me.

        • @Bullzye: I tried subscribing and was told to wait 24 hours to take effect

There's still heavy rumours of a new one by the end of the year. I'd probably hold out until that, especially given this isn't the first time recently that it's gone for a pretty good price. Without an indication of the new ones cost I'd just wait a month. If the new model is expensive grab an old one when stores go to clear out stock.

I agree with systmworks, I bought 2 Amazon Fire TVs from Staples delivered by Shipito for just under $200 last December. I have a Gen 2 Apple TV with Kodi and the Fire TV with Kodi is better in all respects. Faster response, better picture and interface and you can sideload heaps of apps. (This is coming from an Apple fanboy!)

  • Any benefits of getting Apple TV 3rd gen if I got the 2nd gen (bought in 2010)?

    • You can sell the 2nd gen model for $150-200 and buy 3 x 3rd Gen models. Why because you can jail break the 2nd gen.

      • Yea..I remember mine was jail broken and I have installed XBMC
However, since there are lots of streaming options I have not touched my Apple TV at least 2 years now…

        • -1

          sell it… 720p.

    • +1

The 3rd gen is 1080p if that concerns you.

  • Nice deal, I'm assuming it can run nerdflix?

    • And Stan, and TenPlay

      And Hulu and HBO Now

Don`t forget to buy a $200 dollar AC-router to use alone with it

    • +2

Why? I've got 3, all communicating via a shared 802.11G wifi router and it all works fine. On top of this, laptops, ipads, iphones, all using the same wifi, whilst streaming content from Netflix to appletv over wifi.

      • with many tenants in the house, it is disaster, only 5G-wifi saved my life.

    • +3

Don't forget to make absolutely no sense.

    • +1

The quality of your ISP connection will more than likely have a great impact on your streaming than your local WiFi … we had no trouble even using stock Telstra hardware, only reason I upgraded was for easy Getflix integration on the router and the better range a more expensive router had (mainly down to its external antenna).

Assuming their existing wifi works I doubt the average user would need to upgrade at all.

    • +1

I used an apple TV at my parents and it was really jumpy / laggy (I think it was high def video if that matters). I was playing it wirelessly from my MacBooks hard drive (which runs it smoothly), so I assume it was down to the wifi not being strong / fast enough?? Anyone know what would cause this, because it's the main thing that's turning me off getting a chromecast or apple TV. But I want one because I am so sick of plugging hard drives and the hdmi cable into my macbook each time I want to watch something lol! Oh and I have a Roku 2 which you can't stream to from a computer and it plays 1 in 10 media files from my hard drive so I consider it just about useless.

  • Just tried and it won't let me use the code, tried chatting to them but same old BS about it being for people who have purchased before…they won't budge..lucky for some I suppose.

    • It's not BS. It is probably in place to stop current customers making multiple accounts and brodening the deal :)

  • Looking at projecting an ipad mini 2 on to a tv screen (displaying Polar heart rate data). Are my only 2 options Apple TV or via a HDMI cable?

  • Mehhh been debating all day whether to get it or not, sold me ATV2 on eBay for around $170 as i didn't think i needed it but given the Netflix situation through my laptop its doing my head in.
Got club catch on and purchased it, hopefully the 'extra deal' from COTD for purchasing during this promo will be good and it pays off for buying this.
    :)

  • Did anyone get the next codes after using reward 20?
It said in the email there would be new codes offered

  • Bought one using the app, no -$5 as edited?
