Nice, i already have one which i don't use but still cheap.

    • +7

      i was already about to buy but then i realise i have a ps4… and a ps3 and… yeah… i dont need this

      • +4

i thought the ozbargain community goes…

i was about to buy one then i realise i have a ps4… bought one anyway… and i have a ps3… yea… i dont need this… but i still bought another one because it's cheap!

        • +11

          Isnt it more like, I bought one, then I realised i have a ps4, ps3 etc…

      • +2

I don't know about the PS4, but I have the older BDP-S780 Sony BluRay player and the picture quality is A LOT better than the PS3. It is definitely noticeable.

      • +2

I'm hoping the compatibility with files on a USB drive is better than the PS3.

  • Any chance for free delivery

    • I wish. Combined shipping would of been nice.

      • Thanks mate, but the shipping cost is too much even if you combined shipping

  • Anyone around syd area wanting to go halvies in shipping?

    • Where are you located? PM me :-)

      • +2

        Nvm. They dont combine shipping:(

    • I think Grays charges shipping/handling per item, therefore you buy 5, you pay 5x.

  • How's the (USB) video file compatibility / playback? Would it be compatible with more files than my PS3?

    • I have this player. I exclusively use it for iview, sbs on demand and playing from usb. As far as file compatibility, it supports most things but some files still don't play. Also the usb will only play off usb flash and powered 3.5" drives. When I plug my 2.5" non powered it gives me an error message about it not being able to power the drive. The s380 I used to have before it would power the same drive no problems.

  • Don't forget cashrewards. These are also available on their ebay site.

  • +4

Gray's always ruins things with their shipping costs!

  • +5

Just note with the bluray player there is no wifi or 3D, but excellent price

  • I better not… so many other things I need to buy first :( Bloody incredible deal though, even if it is the entry level.

  • +1

Can they be made region free for Blu-ray?

    • +4

Can they be made region free for Blu-ray?

At this price, get one for each region :)

  • No mention of Netflix. Does the Australian firmware have that removed? Maybe need to flash the UK firmware?

Then again, my old Sony Blu-ray no longer does any online services, as it was dependent on a Sony server that has been switched off. Screw Sony.

    • Yes it has Sony's service enabled instead

  • +1

Netflix (aussie and us) work on this?

    • +1

The 1200 does Netflix, Quickflix, Youtube, iView, SBS On Demand, Plus7 and TenPlay; as well as a host of less notable other streaming services.

The USB interface plays every format I've thrown at it. No 3D or WiFi. Good little unit, replaced my WDTV.

      • Out of interest anyone know of a player that will play 3D from USB?

        • any player can if the source video is 3d sbs and the tv can deal with that.

        • @fenrer:
My panasonic tv will not play or recognise any 3d files i have tried (downloaded all the big buck bunny versions and some sample 3d images). Nor does my sony blu ray player.

        • @Elijha: My ST60 Panasonic plasma recognises side by side 3d videos, and if all else fails you can just switch it on manually I believe. Also XBMC/KODI now supports 3d, so when you play a file with the correct naming convention it will pick it up and switch into 3d for you. the UI is also 3d in that case which is quite useful.

      • It plays all formats but plenty of files just don't play, even though others with the same format have worked. Subtitles have also been a bit hit and miss

      • Have you thrown MKV's at it?

  • +1

Very Cheap! Refurb, but still has 12mths warranty.

    Dont forget 5.5% cashrewards!

  • +1

    Thanks OP.
Got a blu ray player from their eBay store.

  • Perfect for the kids room, thanks!

  • +1

nice, thanks OP! Needed to use my $50 ebay voucher :)

  • Does anyone know if this supports iview? I assume it does, but I want it to at least support Netflix and iview. I'm planning on getting it for a 65yo who will just use it for streaming and the occasional dvd.

    • Yes only issue with iview is that there is a delay with shows. Not sure if the shows are cached by a server by Sony or someone else, but often the show will be available online at ABCs site but not at the bdps1200s iview app. Usually it's only a day or two late but as couple of times it didn't work for a week or two which was quite annoying. No one at Sony can help and iview support is forum based, so as a fall back I use my chrome cast.

Having thought about it they couldn't cache everything, it's probably some proxy issue or something, Tom I have no idea, there's very little information on what is going on

  • +1

The bluray player looks to be the same as this one from HN, which is known to have Netflix:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/190654

  • can you please post the link from ebay

  • CHEAP!
If only we had old-school, physical media to play on it.

Full specs, details @ Sony ($109, discontinued)

    $89+ Post @ Kogan
    $93 @ Myer
    $94 @ TGG
    $100 @ DSE

I wouldn't be surprised if they don't actually have them. But this price is still SUPER cheap, refurb or not.

    • +2

But they are new and this is "refurbished" with no conditìon report?

      • +1

        Factory reconditioned with 12mths warranty.

        • +1

not Factory - it reads Manufacturer Refurb is …
Manufacturer refurbished: An item that has been professionally restored to working order by a manufacturer or manufacturer-approved seller or retailer.

Grays is an approved seller so could do the refurbs them self.

  • Not region free..

  • Just bought one from ebay. Thanks

  • Thank you OLokun.. Just bought mine blu-ray player, I got a quick question, Is this come with a sealed box without mentioning anything about refurbishment…

    • +2

No, the recipient will know you're a cheap OzBastard.

  • -1

This does have netflix iview etc via ethernet but NO dlna over network.

    • "Play videos, music and view photos stored on USB drives or your home network via DLNA without worrying about file formats."
      http://www.sony.com.au/product/BDP-S1200/sku/bdp-s1200_bmau2…

      • Have a look at the 'supported formats' section on that page - then compare it to this model: http://www.sony.com.au/product/bdp-s3200

1200: MPEG-4 AVC (.mkv, .mp4, .m4v, .m2ts, .mts) Yes (BD, DVD, CD, USB)
3200: MPEG-4 AVC (.mkv, .mp4, .m4v, .m2ts, .mts) Yes (BD, DVD, CD, USB, DLNA)

    • It does do DLNA.

      • Sorry to disappoint guys - but I have the model above - bdp3200 which has DLNA - and I purchased this one under the assumption that whilst it has no wifi that it would have all the same features as the 3200 via ethernet. It can stream from netflix etc (hence they claim streaming). It can play off USB. But it definitely has no DLNA. I sold mine after a week or so because I only
        bought it for DLNA.

        • I have a similar experience, it appears that there is no reason for it not to support DLNA, but I couldn't get it working either

  • Awesome! Got a blu ray for the folks. :)

  • Anyone know how to make the DVD playback region free on this player. I have read it is possible but only by using a One For All 3940 remote or one of the region free remote from eBay.

These are the instructions I found:

    1. Press DVD
    2. Hold the magic button until the DVD button flashes twice.
    3. Press 20533

    4. Hold the magic button until the DVD button flashes twice.

    5. Press 994
    6. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
    7. Press 001891 (this sets key 1 – the DVD button flashes twice)

    8. Hold the magic button until the DVD button flashes twice.

    9. Press 994
    10. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
    11. Press 002552 (this sets key 2 – the DVD button flashes twice)

    12. Hold the magic button until the DVD button flashes twice.

    13. Press 994
    14. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
    15. Press 000953 (this sets key 3 – the DVD button flashes twice)

    16. Hold the magic button until the DVD button flashes twice.

    17. Press 994
    18. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
    19. Press 002214 (this sets key 4 – the DVD button flashes twice)

    20. Hold the magic button until the DVD button flashes twice. .

    21. Press 994
    22. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
    23. Press 000795 (this sets key 5 – the DVD button flashes twice)
Done - the remote is now programmed and ready to use

    Quote:
    1. Now to make your player region free use the Sony remote that came with the player to bring it out of standby and wait while HOME is displayed
    2. Make sure there isn't a disc in the machine.
    3. Now on the OneforAll remote press 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (The display will flash OK and turn off)
    4. Put the player back into standby with the Sony remote
    5. That’s it, the next time you turn on the player it will be region free for DVD playback

    • -1

Considering Sony is a major enforcer of manufacturers following region coding on their devices, not bloody likely

  • +1

Looks like the Blu-Ray player is sold out… just as I was adding it to cart… darn it :p

  • sold out - bluray edition

  • Blu Ray Sold out.

    limited playback on burnt media.

    no usb input.

    wouldn't buy another one.

  • grabbed one on ebay. thanks

  • -3

Blueray who really needs them unless you don't have bandwidth. Streaming has taken over all physical media… Not like blueray discs are cheap

    • +3

The quality is night and day! Bluray discs are miles better than any streaming source. Yes, on a 50" Tv, it's very very very noticeable, and any half decent surround sound. But each to their own, I have high standards :P

      • -1

The discs cost too much be on the cheap on Netflix 1080p is good enough for any Ozbargainers

    • +1

Not sure about blueray discs, but bluray is better than streaming and is fairly cheap.

  • Great deal OP, thanks.
Blu-ray sold out on ebay now.

  • +2

If any one in Sydney has a change of mind and willing to sell their blu-ray player, would really appreciate if you can contact me. I just purchased an new Apple Tv from Officeworks for $99 yesterday - just for netflix. Fortunately I have'nt opened it yet. Im in the hornsby area but can also collect it from Sydney CBD.
    Cheers.

  • .
Thanks I got the Sony BDPS1200 Blu-ray from the Ebay link (couple of hours ago)

  • What's a DVD?

  • None available on eBay now either.

  • +1

I bought a bluray once, used it once….

    • I got one free with a new TV. Only thing I ever did with it was update its firmware.

  • Dang, I've been looking for a cheap BR player or two… too slow this time.

  • Just got a call from Grays Online, they told me that the Blu-Ray player is out of stock but they where willing to offer me the next model up that has WiFi for the same price or a refund. I gladly took their offer of the better model. Great customer service!

I bought on eBay when there was around 6 units left.

    • Score!

    • Well done to you and Grays.

Mine been shipped, non-wifi. Still happy. :)

    • dang, good job!

I got my BDP-S1200 delivered just now!

  • +2

    Wow. Lucky!

I just got mine delivered and am a bit disappointed with the "refurbishment"..

The unit looks very used with lots of scratchmarks and adhesive residue all over it. I was expecting a "refurb" to be similar quality to that of what an Apple Refurb products.. i.e. new shell, refurb internals, but this genuinely looks like a very old used unit..

The only thing new that came with the unit are the batteries for the remote.

  • +1

got Sony DVD Player $15.95, box is all messed up and damaged ,

    • Yeap. Same for mine. Box is really bad. Some scratches on device. Remote looks new. No manual or battery

  • I got my ordered smart player today and it's. Completely a shit, not even worth for 5 doller, I bought it to give on my brother's birthday, but I can't give that shit now, very disappointed about this company, is there anyway to return this shit…

    • +2

Can you elaborate on the shitness? "Completely a shit" literally a turd in a box?

      • +1

The box is totally meased, damaged and covered with sellotapes, there are so many scratches and marks on the player looks like an year used one, some scratches on remote as well, it totally looks like a Chinese 5 doller player if you remove the sony logo…

        • its refurbished and not new, just because you are a tight wad for not buying new - don't blame Greys

        • @diddy50: if you know what refurbished really means, you won't take grey's side

        • @roadfinder:

I have one. It's not new. Problem is Unless you replace the shell you can't fix surface scratches.

I was not expecting a perfect and as new product. As it is someone else's equipment that has been returned and refurbished.

For me it's - Does it work?
          If so, great.
          It was $25 delivered.
