    what's the region situation on this one? Sony players are famously tricky/impossible to unlock aren't they?

      Region free for DVD can be hit and miss. Many AU Sony models are (but it's often undocumented/AU-only) and there's no guarantees. Sometimes Sony AU will unlock it for you.

      Region free BD — not a chance in hell without a hardware mod (which DOES exist — see http://www.gattiweb.com/bluraymod.html — but at $150 not the best investment.)

      I have Sony BDP5200 and its region locked for DVD.

      I've tried unlocking it via codes but no luck. And the hifi shop I purchased it from have no advice either. They told me if I had got a Yamaha no worries…

      But if this machine is anything like the 5200 it'll be very nice. Quick loading and great picture.
