Free Presto for 6 Months (Telstra Promotion)

6030
PRESTO

Recently signed up for Telstra's XL Bundle, unfortunately, the code for 6 months of free Presto was nowhere to be seen.

After waiting weeks, I decided to take it up with Telstra's 24/7 Chat. The kind gentleman informed me that I could SMS the word 'PRESTO' to 0498 500 400 and receive the special code… PRESTO! It worked.

Also got a few friends to try this that aren't on the Telstra network, and all were successful.

Another code thanks to RogueWolf6 in case the SMS feature above doesn't give you one: TELB6MTH615

Just saw this promo on my T-BOX under information/news, don't think its targeted, find out soon I guess

  • Works perfectly thanks OP

  • Does Presto have anything special that Netflix (US or AU) doesn't have?

    • +2

Well it has Aquarius with David Duchovny - pretty pretty good.
Oh and Wentworth (lezzos in jail) which is kinda good too.

    • +1

A couple of HBO shows too

  • Quite irritating to enter PIN everytime when playing vids.

    • LMAO … are you serious? It sounds like they actually don't want you playing content …

  • I got a different number to sms presto to. They sent it through the mail with the pds.

  • +1

    No working for me

  • Worked fine and I am with Optus, thanks! Would definitely cancel before 6 months is up though, the selection on Presto is shockingly bad

  • +1

Worked fine - Vodafone customer. Strange that they wont let me view R18+ movies even though im 21. oh well.

Edit: You have to enter a pin every time you watch R18 movies lol

    • +1

      Hey any interesting ones..?

  • Thanks OP :)

  • Signed up thanks OP. just finished my free 3 month trial a week ago so the timing is perfect for me.

  • is Presto worth it? Even for free?

    • +2

Short answer no, no it's not.

    • +4

Not worth it if you have to pay, its worth it when its free :)

    • There's a few shows offered that you can't get on Netflix or Stan

    • Free in monetary terms but there's the opportunity cost of your time.

    • Maybe if you can't read, and therefore watch a lot of TV/Movies on your phone

  • +8

OP missed the opportunity to get even with someone by putting their mobile number in the description.

  • Looks like closing/canceling the account is very easy, just click "close my account" at the bottom of the settings screen!
Ps I'm with Virgin and it worked perfectly! :)

  • Thanks OP. Seems to be still working as of 3:30am :)

  • -1

Literally need to be paid to use this… 409 votes? Really?

    • +5

It sounds like a good deal until you have used it and can't find anything worth watching.

      • +2

        but its free tho

        • +3

          Doing nothing is also free.

      • Or you go to use it and find out that none of the apps on any device work for more than 5 mins at a time and crash constantly…

        • I've had presto for months and never had it crash on my IOS devices

        • @Slo20: Then you are in the minority… Just have a look at the ratings and reviews here…

          https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/presto.-anytime/id734187079?…

          https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/presto-for-iphone/id95948511…

        • @pegaxs: I never said the app was well designed, just said it doesn't crash on me. Read the first 15 reviews and not one say the app crashes.

        • +1

@Slo20: almost every review says… "App crashes" because everyone except you gets to experience it crashing. Blank screens, crashing back to desktop or simply crashing on launch. You are lucky and in a very small minority.

And you need to go back and read the reviews, because 90% of the first 15 reviews I read all said the same thing… It crashes…

And last of all, I never said that you said anything about the design of the app. Don't know why you think I even mentioned it… I just said the app crashes for everyone else except you. That is all I mentioned.

        • @pegaxs: we obviously see different reviews because I re read them and not one says app crashes. I mentioned app design because the reviews I read complain about certain links (I.e community page) not working, not having a watch list and the app not being as good as Netflix.
Either way I'm not defending presto, simply saying I'm not the only one who it doesn't crash on.

  • Thanks OP. signed up ready to glue my eyes on a TV.
Oh well… I just havta cut down on bargain hunting then.

  • +3

    Android app stinks

  • Worked for me, Thanks

  • Thanks OP. Worked on my TPG SIM

  • Worked! Thanks. Unfortunately I missed out on the officeworks $24.50 chromecast last week, so, any other way to get it on my sony smart tv?

    • +3

Um, pay $39 or whatever it is at Officeworks?

Or would you like me to buy you one?

      • Thanks for the offer Big T, but considering you comment below, perhaps I really "saved" $24.50, certainly wont pay $39. BTW works OK on my 7" Asus tablet

        • Definitely recommend the Chromecast regardless of what you're streaming, excellent little device.

    • $25 probably wont happen any time soon. $35-39 is probably your best bet.

  • +4

I'm on the "free" 6 months (through a new Telstra mobile contract), and in my experience, free is still too much. The android app is appalling, and the crashiest piece of crashy crap I can recall - it's rare that it will open twice in a row without needing a force-stop. The restriction on registered devices is ridiculous, and if you look through their support forums, the implementation is very buggy - LOTS of people having problems. And very few phones are supported, luckily (unluckily?) the one I have is.

We've used it a little bit, but if we decide we really want a streaming service I'd pay for Netflix before persisting with this garbage.

    • +1

The situation is the same on Apple devices. Flakey playback that last 5 mins before needing to be reset, and all their hardware is the same. Thought Android might have been better, found out it was exactly the same. Still, free is free… even if it is just 5 min per stint. :D

      • +1

        Enough for a porno.

  • +1

Have the resolved the chromecast blank screen problem yet?

  • +2

id sign up to presto if they offered it on xbox one or apple tv.

  • Sweet, just remember to cancel before your sub expires.

  • Tried 2 versions of Presto app on Android, either can't login, or thinks there's no connection. the app is hopeless

Even free, I've kind of given up on this. Can't get it going on Android box neither.

who would pay for this seriously with Netflix and Stan being much better!?

  • They need to HD their content and it'll be alright

    Still only if free thou

    • -3

Wouldn't HD waste alot of bandwidth for shows that aren't that flash.

      • +3

Wish I could downvote you 20000 times. Bet you still buy DVD

      • yes, HD versions of F troop would be a waste.

and a pain if you are on crappy adsl speeds like me.

  • +2

TEL515MAS still works. I just done a quick google search, tested it and it works.

    • Ditto. Canceled old free sub and account and opened a new account with same credit card.

    • Nice, this code works :)

  • Thanks OP. Signed up again for 6 months and cancelled my old free subscription.

  • Sweet, nice share, worked for me also

  • Boom! Thanks OP!

  • Thanks Op. Got my code right away. Can't hurt to at least try it out.

Thanks also for the R18 info folks. Assuming that's for things like horror movies?

LOL Presto was already there at the top when I went to search the app in the app store on the iPad - you guys have been busy.

  • +3

Came here for the free Pesto… realised it said free Presto :(

  • Lol tried it out a bit and can see why they are falling way behind of Netflix.

  • Time will tell when this code stops working. Surely some Telstra rep would tell their boss and cancel it

By all means, Presto officially is rubbish compare to Stan and Netflix

On tablet can't even login, it must be the Ozbargain effect, crashing their servers what not.

There's no competition, their app is all 1 stars

  • Streaming old media in low quality on a crappy net connection makes this a waste of time even at $0

  • Great! Worked for me

  • +2

If they actually made decent apps to support more devices it might actually be OK, oh, and have HD streams. No console support? Pass from me. Tell me when they actually support consoles and more devices (ATV) and I might be interested, but until then… yawn.

I'm starting to think soon they'll need to actually pay people to use their service!

    • Yup, I love Netflix support on the PS4!

Anyway, I refuse to even sign up to Presto due to Foxtel's grubby tactics….

  • Flying cows it actually worked!

  • +2

I've tried to like Presto. But I can't. In this day and age. Why would you use a service that doesn't have HD?
The whole service is poorly thought out.

  • +1

How lame is this. I know its free, but come on….all crap TV shows (except for the Summer Heights High guy) and the movies, well yeah rocky and rambo, wow cool…for free. But its in SD. Feel like im in the 90s watching Rambo…but saving the $7 VHS rental fee from video-ezy LOL

    • And that is why Netflix (and probably even Stan) is smashing Presto….

  • There's no seinfeld

  • +1

Tried code TELB6MTH615 then and didnt work, now just waiting on a reply from that PRESTO sms

    • +5

TEL515MAS That worked for me. Number never texted back.

      • Thanks that code worked for me

      • same here texted number, no reply

        TEL515MAS code worked

  • -6

    no go 24+ later

  • Not working now on Vodafone

  • +2

TEL515MAS worked for me at 11:00 p.m. Didn't use SMS, just logged on to the page (I'm a Telstra customer).

    Payment today will be $0.00.
You will be charged $0.00 per month for the first 6 months, then $14.99 per month there after.Subscription fees will automatically apply at the end of the bonus period, unless your account is cancelled before the end of the bonus period. You can cancel anytime during the bonus period by going to your Presto settings and selecting ‘Close Account’. If you cancel after your bonus period, your account will be closed at the end of your subscribed month. You can also monitor your billing status through ‘Settings’.
Use on a Telstra Home Broadband connection won’t count towards your data allowance.

So, pretty cool; thanks to OP.

Now to remember to cancel in 6 months!

  • +1

Great thanks, got another six months (on a new account).

Does anyone know if pausing an account on Presto is equivalent to closing the account with regards to free trials? I don't wish to be charged after the previous six months ended but would prefer to keep the account around.

    Thanks for any tips.

  • They don't even have classic Channel 7 series like Harry's Practice on there even though they are 50% owned by Channel 7.

  • Was looking for free F1 live streaming…. Seems this won't give me that….

  • I have found that it's easiest to just hook up your PC/Laptop to the TV via HDMI and play movies through the browser.
The iPad app crashed continuously for me too.

  • +1

    didnt get anything after texting.

  • i messaged both PRESTO and TELB6MTH615 and TEL515MAS hasnt worked for me

  • If you have FOXTEL with the works package is it worth having presto too?

Also it uses a browser for OS X and not a app correct?

  • Rang just now .. the number has been disconnected!!! .. looks like I've missed out!!

    • +5

.. UPDATE .. as suggested by mikeham .. I went to https://www.presto.com.au/telstra .. filled out the details .. and then submitted the code: TEL515MAS .. and bingo .. 6 months free movies & TV .. thanks once again to mikeham.

They do ask for your credit card details … but you can stop your subscription at any time!!!

      • I just did this and it worked, thanks :)

      • Surprised this is listed as Expired considering this method works fine…..OzBargain comments are always worth going through.

        Thanks Look43Bs

  • The web interface fails to play (errors with "You are not authorized to view this content") anything, and the app for iOS is absolutely shocking. No retina support for phones so it looks awful, and fails to do the most basic things like restarting where you finished or even keeping track of what you were watching. The amount of content is average, though there's some obscure Aussie shows there.

All that said, it's fine for free for what it does do. Maybe things will even get better in the next 6 months of free service.

Thanks for posting the deal OP.

  • +1

If you cancel it tomorrow, will you still get to use it for the next 6 months or does your service terminate straight away? I'm going to forget to cancel.

Looks like Android app does not support Galaxy S6. Oh well. Guess I'm unsubscribing now then.

And I heard it was SD only. This thing is only good if it's free.

EDIT: It seems you can only "pause" your subscription, not cancel it. This sounds like a gym membership where they deliberately make it hard for you to leave. And it will remain useable for the next month, not 6 months. It told me I can continue using it until 26/8/2015 even though the bonus period is 6 months, not 1 month.

  • Can't get any movies to play just buffers and then stops both firefox and chrome..

  • App keeps crashing on my Nexus 5, when it did work it won't cast to my Chromecast, just sits there buffering. Might cancel my 6 months after 2 days of trying to use it.

  • This deal is working out for me. Caught up with a few good movies I'd missed, playing nicely on my 27" iMac. Between this deal and SBS Movies On Demand, that's entertainment enough for the next 6 months…

  • just tried it and this still works :)

  • Test and still working

  • Tried this today, still working even though the text with code said use before 3 august. I'm thinking it is meant to say 31 august perhaps.

    • Did you try out the code?
I got the sms but the subscription site wouldn't accept the code

      • Yes the code worked and I have a 6 month subscription

        • Funny….I tried it again today using the same code that was SMS'd to me previously and it worked.
