30 listing per month

Yes - sorry, not really a deal.
Also remember that all sellers now pay eBay fees on the POSTAGE component of each sale. ie. You either have to take a LOSS on the postage (if you charge the actual amount it costs to post) or ramp up your postage by 10-15% to cover FEES, this then results in an unfavorable seller ranking (as buyers are asked to rate the value or your postage) and this poor rating then results in inferior search rankings for your items by eBay.
Thanks eBay.
Footnote: eBay funnels all income to Ireland from Australia, pays literally no tax here. Also does not collect or remit GST on seller fees.
I guess this may change - probably resulting in a 15% rise in fees to cover the 10% GST they will have to remit.
i know eBay takes a lot of fees which really sad, but its useful to get rid of unwanted/broken items. There isn't a good alternative than ebay. feel free to suggest something better or similar than ebay (also not scamtree).
you know as much as people hate ebay they are actually cheap compared to a similar middleman i just read about - UBER
uber charges 20% for doing exactly as much as ebay and nobody complains about them?
Well no one using uber is complaining right now. Selling on ebay is more like being an uber / taxi driver, they are getting shafted by a middleman with massive profit margins
Gumtree is eBay
Gumtree is owned by ebay, but doesn't have fees for regular stuff.
However, because it is owned by ebay, they keep it as crappy as possible, and just good enough to block new entrants to the market.
Scamtree? I like Gumtree.
If you're careful there's no way of getting scammed when selling things. (this deal is about selling)
You give them the item after they give you the money, simple.I encourage using Gumtree in addition to eBay if not instead of.
Ebay have got a nice monopoly. Some healthy competition would help….this mob http://www.quicksales.com.au/ do the same thing with NO FEES, but nowhere near the range of stuff.
Thanks, gotta clean out the garage, should come in handy.
Its always free for the first 100 listings. They make their money on the Fee's at the end, oh and the Paypal fee's they charge on top.
Gumtree, the way forward.
Gumtree is full of fraudsters, conman and stolen goods.
It's always good to be cautious on gumtree. In my limited experience, make the pickup point at your local police station. If the person doesn't turn up / cancels or even stops communicating, it fishes out the rubbish. This may be hard with certain items such as furniture. Alternatively at the various courts/government buildings in the city (for example, NSW Treasury at Governor Phillip Tower), there are constant police officers at the point of check-in. The point where they check you/screen you before you can enter. This is particularly useful if you are selling anything "Apple" - whenever a transaction happens with "Apple" - you will get 5000000 times more trouble than you would get for a non-Apple product. Just a suggestion. Maybe this should be moved to the forums (I can just hear the moderators stating that). Note that at all checkpoints, cameras record the traffic of people in and out of the check points.

LOL why don't you get the police to pay and drop off the item for you. Do you really think they are going to allow you to conduct transactions in the reception area of a police station!

What is the point of this? Why not meet in the ER of your local hospital?

The Sydney harbour tunnel records all movements in and out so who meet in there, stop in the middle and pass the payment and the item through the windows of the car.
@Maverick-au:
Yes, you are allowed to transact at the reception area at the police station. There is a large reception area at 192 Day Street Sydney 2000 across from Darling Quarters. The point of Governor Phillip Tower comment is that if your transaction is around the CBD, it is more convenient there as the reception centre is fairly large in terms of space. The point is probably more that you would filter human garbage out quicker with the transaction. If they have nothing to worry about, they would show up at that point without any contest with police around the area. You could meet at the local ER hospital. Royal North Shore isn't bad except that you would have to probably pay for parking and walk to the ER sector of the hospital. The parking station is about 15 minutes walk to the ER wing Royal North Shore Hospital Car Park At RPA, it's the same, you would struggle with free parking, RPA Rates unless you have a pass from the Oncology department. The new wing's parking is quite pricey which is directly across from the ER department. The Sydney Harbour tunnel is probably not practical as you would probably be inconsiderate and cause a car accident which will probably cost you more than the item that you are selling. Plus if one person is running late, unless the person is exactly ontime, it would not work as such. In addition to that, you would have to outlay the cost of using the Harbour tunnel as well. Depending on what time of the day, Sydney Harbour Rate Toll, this will also be an additional cost to the transaction. Ebay and paypal fees may work out to be cheaper after all!
Not really … as Gumtree is owned by eBay. They will make sure Gumtree either charges fees or stays unpopular. :-(
You are incorrect. Not for my account or anyone in my family.
I get 100 free listings on my account. Maybe it depends on your join date (I joined 10 years ago).
I joined about 10 years ago too and I only get 40 listings on both my accounts and I actively sell
100 for me too, but tend not to sell on ebay due to BS fees.
Local trading posts are the way to go and payment sent via paypal, yes they get a cut but you get peace of mind.
No. 40.
Took up the offer. However when the quantity is more than one then it charges a listing fee.
Trick is to change the title each item for same item..
Eg kids tent, tent for kids, kids tent. Tent for kids. And then use the same keywords in listing.
Add at the TOP of each description you have more on your account with a link to your seller account page
Thanks OP - definitely needed this! :)
Get this deal sent to me nearly every month. Helps get a few more things listed.
Just be sure your are charging enough postage. I just sold something for $10 yesterday and just assumed shipping would be $8.25 but went to auspost today and it was $13.40. AFAIK if you listed shipping fee, you cannot change it after the item ends so after taking out postage and fees I got around $1 for all that hassle of selling the things I could have just used or donated.
I know it was my fault for not making sure beforehand but I think many people would make this mistake.
Is Auspost the only choice for casual sellers or are there cheaper alternatives?
Officeworks has its own parcel post at competitive prices
Isn't it free anyway? Considering you have to pay 12% in fees for each sale.
