    • +4

They definitely still do.. I claimed mine last week!

    • +3

      i see so:
"Verified Members who have transacted within 6 months prior to the start of their birthday month"

need to buy something within 6 months prior.. no wonder i didnt get voucher this year! doh…

    • i had my free meal 2 weeks ago.

    • cashed in a birthday deal just a few days ago. First time, and all thanks to a previous ozbargain post.

  • Cool ! this sounds very good actually.

  • Have their chickens shrunk by 25% too? ;)

    • +6

Probably by 50% if you look closely…

      • +2

Don't think they can shrink any more. I have never seen such small chickens as Nando's serve

    • they were always quail sized! but i cant stop buying!!

  • Looks like WA, NT & North Qld pay:
    1/2 $11.75 -> $8.81
    Whole $18.95 -> $14.21

    • +5

Not only that, but by the time the chicken crossed the Nullarbor it's lost half its weight.

  • How big are the chickens? 1kg? 1.8kg?

    • +1

      Don't you mean 'were'?

    • +1

      .9 i think is standard :(

  • PRICE in title…

  • +1

Seems rather expensive still for a bbq chicken? Understand obviously its a lot cheaper than the normal price, but why would you purchase one of these over a coles/woolies/IGA cheaper BBQ chicken. Better taste?

    • +3

well just try it nandos is the best, second is oporto/ogalo

    • -4

exactly…If u really want the nandos tast just buy the precooked chicken from coles/woolies… and marinate it in Nandos sauce and heat for a couple of min

      • +7

Nandos chicken is not dry like woolies, coles, or even red rooster.

        • +2

opposite I think, Nandos split chickens are always dry, the ones I get are. (don't buy them anymore because of that)

        • +2

          @PVA:
I've had some dry pieces. Makes me want to take it back, coz Nandos charge a premium price.
I know they're small. I know they're expensive. But it's usually REALLY good chicken.
Edit: Fixed grammar before the Nazi's attack me.

        • Woolies chickens that I have had are probably the most moist and tasty I have had (apart from some I had in Thailand) and usually between $8 and $10 for a whole large one.

      • I can confirm that the sauces used to cook the chicken is not the same as the one you buy in store. I have spoken to Nando's head office about this in the past. If this was the case, all franchisees would be out of business.

      • +2

i feel sorry for you that you think that it tastes the same.
you have no idea what youre missing out on

    • +7

There's no comparison. Woolies bbq chicken has a greasy taste that I can't get through. Nandos (usually) is much better quality.

      • +1

I suggest you try a different woolies

      • not our woolies, tell the manager if yours has a strange taste.

        • +12

come on guys, you aren't really comparing woolies chook to nandos??

  • +1

    Thanks for this :)

  • +2

    Username checks out!

    • Haha, indeed! ;)

  • +4

they are so going to get ozbargained in 75 years time

  • Why is everyone making Tuesday a day to do deals? Given that Hungry Jacks cannot change their Twosday slogan, KFC should bring their to a You Don't Hate Mondays Anymore $9.95 deal and Nandos to Wednesday Hump Day Chicken Special.

    • +8

Tuesday is generally the poorest day of the week(day before payday for a lot of people), store patronage is a lot lower, and you would have noticed a lot of Chinese/fish & chip, etc are closed Tuesdays.

so that's why we have bigger specials on Tuesday, its been this way for years, not a recent thing.

    • Because tightarse Tuesday is such a common saying.

  • -3

    This is a rip off.
Woolies sells dead chooks for $8 each on Tuesdays.

    • dead chooks with fluid injections for $8 on Tuesdays.

Try Nandos, they are popular for a reason.

      • +3

"Try Nandos, they are popular for a reason."

Because the younger generation can only been seen in expensive takeaways?

        • i see all types of people there? I'm no longer a 'younger generation'

        • +1

          @berger:
Nor I. It is expensive - I'm always hesitant because of the price. I have to remind myself that I'd rather eat nandos than go to a restaurant, and it's cheaper than that.

They've found a niche: better than fast food, cheaper than eating out.

      • our local nandos is far from popular, same goes for the nandos I see in the big petrol station food courts on the highways.

      • What other things do woolies/coles put in their chicken?

  • +5

I would say KFC 9 pieces for $9.95 on Tuesday is still a better deal than 25% off a Nandos chicken.

    • -1

Maybe if your obese. Nandos is better for people with a healthy wait.

      • +24

You're right. You will definitely wait longer at Nandos.

    • +2

      Comparing apples to oranges.

  • +4

Perfect timing! I need to eat something at Nandos to get the free birthday meal next year. :)

  • +3

I have bought a few split chickens from Nandos, not for about 6 months though. Every one has always been dry and over cooked, I know i dont want raw chicken but dry chicken is awful. Seeing it has been every one I bought I assume thats the style they make them so I stopped buying.

    • I'd try a different store. Somebody should tell the manager his guys are doing it wrong

      • The same for the woolies/iga haters

        • true, our woolies is fine for BBQ chicken.

      • I suppose so, but instead I just dont buy it anymore, gave them plenty of chances and I am not searching for a different store.
It is only bbq chicken after all, nothing special.

        • definitely location….

I'm Sydney, but I've found Melbourne marinate their chicken the best

As per coles woolies as well. Woolies chicken out west is awesome, but dry and small in the city

  • I find the taste differ from different shops…they claim their chooks are fresh and never been frozen. I guess that's why they taste better and have a higher price tag

    • btw KFC is fresh chicken

      • There is a 2 cooking stages with Nandos chooks. First they cook it in a oven for about 15-20 minutes and then
placed on the grill for another 5 minutes and ready to serve. If you rock up to the store and say you want the chooks currently in the oven, it'll be fresh and juicy.

  • Offer valid for one per chicken lover per transaction per day

Do you have to be a member to access this deal?

    • PERi-Perks points will be awarded for this offer if no other discounts are present in the transaction.

      Doesn't look like it

  • I just dont like the way nandos chickens are cooked, if you watch the cooking process they seem to pre cook chickens, re-fridge them then finish them on the char grill, thats why they are a bit tough. I wouldn't say they are ever dry though, just have the texture of chicken cooked in the aforementioned process.

  • Chickens arrive in store precooked. This is to ensure no noob at the grill gives anyone food poisioning. They just reheat and baste it in the sauce.

    • i guess its also because it would take too long to make otherwise, they are slow as it is. Maybe they changed it to this method because i remember them being horribly slow when they first started.

    • +1

is it true that when they started a few years back that they were cooked fresh on the spot. rather than this pre-cooked crap.

      • +1

godofpizza does not do grilled chicken. Unless they're grilled chicken pizza…

      • i think so, but horribly slow to the point that i stopped going. i still think its pretty decent tasting food .. :)

      • I think this is true. When Nando's first started in Melbourne, my uncle and Dad were eating it at least a few times a week despite the very long wait times.

  • YES, the new dinner option post the DH drought. I live down the road from a nando's…gonna hit this up for sure. Thanks for the post! =)

  • +5

I foresee a lot of chickens crossing the road every Tuesday

  • Cheeky Nando's with the lads.

  • how much for a 1/2 chicken meal?

  • their chickens are the size of spatchcocks, but still it's a deal…

  • +4

My problem with their chicken is that they don't actually have whole chickens. They have the breast or Maryland bit, but all else isn't there. So when u buy a whole chicken, u are only getting four small bits. It's hardly a whole chicken.

  • Apparantly they don't use hormones on their chickens so thats why they are smaller. That's what I got told from their head office but I don't know if this is true. But one thing I can agree on is that their chicken tastes much better than others I've had.

    • +3

I was under the impression that none of the chickens have hormones in Australia?

  • +2

    Thanks OP
If you are a Nando's member and have the app, there is a Peri-Extras for complimentary Hummus and Peri-Drizzle when you purchase a whole chicken.
    http://imgur.com/17Dy0CK
I'll try to pick this up tonight for dinner.

    • +1

Nice - I wonder if it will work since the chicken offer says "Not valid with any other offer". I'm going to try tonight too

    • +2

Con: Didn't allow complimentary Peri-Perk with the discounted chicken :(
      Pro: The chicken was delicious.

    • +2

I was pretty lucky, the lady at the counter accepted the discounted chicken and complimentary Hummus and Peri-Drizzle. After I paid, the manager went up to me and said they will honor the deal but it wasn't supposed to be eligible.
I kinda felt bad for the lady because she probably got told off.

Pro: Got free Hummus and Peri-Drizzle :)
Con: Felt bad for the Nando's lady :(

Also, I wouldn't ever pay for the Hummus and Peri-Drizzle. Not worth the advertised price of $5.95

  • Nice

  • 25% off 1/2 a chicken reminds me of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5bg1No_RSE

  • +3

    25% off of 50% of a chicken?

So thats 37.5% of a chicken?

  • Cheers OP!

  • Anyone tired it yet?

My mrs was just there and the lady at the counter thinks that you need a barcode of sort before she can accept the deal??

PS. I am in Perth WA

    • There is no barcode… maybe it's an internal thing they're supposed to have to scan or something? I'd suggest showing the link on the website: http://www.nandos.com.au/news/201506/nandos-25th-birthday-of…
I'll report back later this evening after I go in.

      • +1

The manager came forward and awarded the deal, all good now

I guess she was behind in what promotions are going on

  • Can confirm that it works in Melbourne CBD.
    No coupons or barcode required.

  • Costco Rotisserie Chicken + Nando's Sauce (From Costco) = Awesome and cheaper lol.

Chicken is $7 for a large chicken and like $8 for a 1L Nando's Sauce.

  • +3

Bought half a chicken today, not worth $9, maybe $5. Doesn't taste that good, and doesn't fill me up for $9.
