  • So looks like the phones are back in stock, and when you go through the signup process it still has the "I want to bring my mobile number from another carrier" option.

Who is game to try to port over to this again?

  • Hi I have just ordered the deal for S5, I received the order confirmation email and also $1 has been debited from my account.

Not sure I'll get any further email.
(I am currently on other carrier)

  • soo no one else got hit with a $149 or $300 up front fee?

    • +1

have not heard anything like that so far

    • This could only be due to being a new customer or perceived a credit risk.

AFAIK it credits towards your account so that the first 6 months are covered.

    • I am asked to pay $300 upfront fee as well. This is because they don't have any credit history of mine with them. So, you are not the only one.

      • ok I'll I'll do it tomorrow and get it. then sell the phone.

  • just ordered a samsung …existing telstra postpay customer on a contract that has just expired..

  • Sorted out the initial bill teething issue.

Rep canceled the $25 handset payment which equated to a $600 charge which she then credited against.

Ill see if next months bill is another saga.

Today I sold my G2 for $250 effectively making this plan cost me $34.60 a month.

  • +1

Telstra said they would honor my contract even though I was post paid from TPG they tried to slug me $25 for the handset but when I refused they folded as they had to because they sent me an Email saying that the contract was $45 with a free handset and they ported my number from another courier.
To all those peeps who tried to say it was an illegal contract I says BULLSHIT!!
We rorted Telstra what a great deal.

  • So got the email today canceling my order. Went to telstra shop and asked them about it. Interestingly I saw on the screen that the order had been canceled as suspected fraud?

Anyway they said I couldn't get the deal, despite me showing them the contact. Managed to get a very similar deal 45 per month with 1.5g and free s5. This was on a shared data plan with my wife's account.

If I had not got this I probably would have pursued the issue but I walked out with the phone and a s8 tablet for an extra 10 a month. Pretty happy with that.

  • Both s5 and m8 are available now, pity I ordered the s5 Friday. Really want to try HTC as all my phones are Samsung.

    • +1

same here. I didnt expect that the deal would be back. I chatted with the online team. The rep said I can request for an exchange if I havent opened the device box. You can try if you are keen.

  • to anyone that gets a pdf bill for $75:

i chatted to telstra this morning, asking why the bill is $75 ($45 plan +$25 handset). initially the chat person didnt know about the plan until i linked him the url, and also told him about the confirmation email i recieved saying minimum is $45 a month, $0 handset payments

it seems the plan is contradicting itself, as a "casual" plan is just that, month by month, wheras this is a "casual" plan but in a 24 month contract, so it doesnt add up. after confirming with his manager, and the initial sign up letter, plus the wording on the website itself, they have honoured the plan

as some might know, telstra is a large corporation, and there is quite a bit of miscommunication between departments, which appears to be the case for this situation.

i hope anyone else having problems gets a quick and easy resolution too :)

    • +2

Well hopefully you guys have done all the hard work educating Telstra's staff on the details of this deal, so that it will work smoother for the rest of us. Thank you very much Ozbargain community.

  • I applied for this for myself as well as my fiancee yesterday. We both got the initial confirmation email, but she got a cancellation email. I tried it again for her but it was rejected again (citing reasons for unable to authenticate information provided).

    • Does she have a different ID that she can use?

      • Tried that, both driver's license and passport. I'll start an online chat with them tomorrow to discuss.

        • Clarence,
Go into a Telstra Shop and get them to verify your fiancee's ID.
I got rejected but did this, re-ordered, and seems to be fine now.
Either way, this is what Live Chat will tell you to do.

  • I just received this email from Telstra:

Thanks for placing your order with the Telstra Online Shop – order no. **********.

We’re currently out of stock of the item you’re after. An order has been placed and more stock should arrive at our warehouse shortly.

You’ll receive an email as soon as the stock arrives.

We apologise for any inconvenience this delay may cause.

I ordered a black Samsung on Friday morning (yesterday). Hopefully they will get in new stock soon. It doesn't say on the website that they are out of stock.

    • Same here, just got the same email about out of stoc. Ordered S5 black on Friday

      • Now I got an email saying the order is on the way
        Finger crossed

  • Completed my porting as a non-telstra customer this afternoon. Started the process last monday, got the delay sms on Thursday.

My Account shows up as $45 casual plan, can't find any info on handset repayments, there is a $600 fee if i cancel the contract early. looking good so far?

Just waiting for the wife's number to port over now.

    • that's not what it is about the $600, log into your Telstra account on Telstra.com.au website, you will see contract details (within Plans and Usage, Plans Details):

      contract has ended
      costs after contract $598.33
      includes
      Plan early termination charge $0.00
      Device buy out $598.33

and this is what you need to ask them to have a case manager to ring you to have it sorted otherwise it would become an unfair term of contract for you, this have to be OFF the contract as you signed for $0 handset payment with 24 months of this promotional plan

      • After getting the first bill, I see what you mean now. Looks like I'll have to join the phone queue like everyone else.

    • for the record, I told the case manager that I expected what I signed for, otherwise, NO CHANGE, if they change it I will change it too in a more advantageous way toward myself. hence, things settled and I asked them to even email me the details of that confirmation again meanwhile I installed and turned Voice recorder on my HTC One M8 to have the conversation recorded, you know, just in case they stated they recorded the convo but never do so

  • Update for me:
I now have the telstra plan active on mytelstra, it states casual 45, 2gb data and so on. So all good in that regard.

…BUUUUT they didn't port my number. My sim has some random mobile number, and my boost number is still active.
So about to go on chat and tell them to fix it.
I guess I can sell teh S5 now! Heh. Are they locked? I don't want to open it to find out….

    • phone is unlocked but they can lock it if they want to, also, your number not ported over yet meant they expected you to take a brand new casual plan without handset and you gonna pay $600 for that. my advice to you when dealing with Telstra, be careful, I had heaps of past experiences dealing with that bunch of a kind

      • Righteo. They're telling me I need to call back during business hours regarding the porting.
But as for the billing/handset payment thing you mention- would it be best for me to wait until I get my first bill and then get in touch with them?

        • Actually someone on chat is helping me. They're cancelling my current plan then signing me up for it again and sending my out a new sim card with my boost number on it.
What a pain in the ass.
I should have just ported to telstra then filed the port request. So annoying.
Also, I'm thinking of keeping the S5 as it has the rural tick! Gonna sell my S4 instead.
          Thanks telstra.

        • it's better to have these things fixed before your first bill comes: make sure they are actually porting your number over but I doubt about this because your old provider's network still working and Telstra already gave you a new number => which means they already put you on a brand new Casual plan; the second thing is the phone repayment, better off have it sorted too asap. the longer you wait the more complicated your case would be messed up by their 'experts'. basically the reason they keep on doing this is because they want you to either paying the handset or giving up the whole package BUT as you have evidences to support for what you signed for, they cannot change things without your agreement, that's what a contract for, so, you can demand them to have things fixed as what you SIGNED FOR

        • If your service (boost) is still activate than you can request a change of FNN you can do this with most able CSRs, that way it will kill the service number that has been assigned to the casual plan and bring over the service number from your other consumer grade product.

Should take about 2 hours for it process if it is done correctly.

        • @nelsonrat: true but Telstra might screw you up deeper if you are unlucky

        • @webtherapist:

Agreed, but Siebel has improved a lot from the years of the transition, and that prepaid and postpaid (consumer mostly) are in the same platform does make it easier not to completely rape the accounts.

P.s if you have another number with a carrier that isn't Telstra, and you activated this plan and want the number from old carrier you can do port request to Telstra prepaid than request a change of fnn to the casual plan.

        • +1

Thanks for the help you two. I'll keep you posted on what goes on.
I'm going to ask for a credit for the past week (or however long it takes them to fix it) because no matter what, this is very amateurish.
I'll be glad when it's over. Never knew it would be so hard to promise a company my hard-earned cash every month for the next two years. Sigh.

  • +1

I signed up on Friday morning. I received a please call us sms in the Friday afternoon. I'm not planning to call them to talk to 10 different reps who have no idea about this offer. If they want to sell me the plan they should contact me. Otherwise I'll stay on my current plan.

    • Were you porting from another carrier, Telstra prepaid or targetted Telstra prepaid?

      • Telstra postpaid.

  • I want to port from Vaya to this plan.

I noticed that the instructions state "2. Enter your pre-paid mobile number at the check-out" but I'm also given the option porting. What will happen if I choose to port from another carrier? Will the offer not be honoured?

    • +1

Unable to say. Some who signed up very early for this deal who were porting did have it honoured, others not.

You can always sign up and see what happens. You do not need to notify Vaya beforehand that you're porting, so if the deal does not go through, you simply remain with Vaya.

If you want to improve your chances of getting it honoured, then you could port first to Telstra prepaid, but there's still no guarantee even then that you will get it.

      • Okay, I placed the order anyway and received an email from them today saying that "Unfortunately, we can't authenticate the information you've provided through our online shop."

I gave them a call as suggested in the email and the operator doesn't seem to know that this deal is exclusive to prepaid customers. He suspected that I needed to confirm my identity by bring documents to the Telstra Shop (so much for buying plans online being easy!).

Anyway, I decided that I won't go ahead with this deal. My initial plan was to sell the phone for around $480 to bring the cost down to $25/month. However, after the 24 months period is over, I would still need to pay $45/month which isn't worth it.

        • +1

Why would you pay $45 after 24 months? Why can't you port out?

  • Well the saga continues. One whole week later, after I signed up and was approved by Telstra, they have decided now that I don't pass the credit check and cancelled my order. Haha, Wtf!

I have have had the phone since Monday and my port is/was in progress.

Sigh, well looks like I will have to call/live chat them yet AGAIN…

Edit. Btw, have never had phone or internet with telstra or any credit issues either.

    • "never had phone or internet with telstra".. Might have something to do with it I'd say and not your credit rating.

      • Spoke to live chat. They have no idea why it was cancelled. They've sorted it and the porting process is happening.

        • hmm OK, weird, maybe this so called "invite only" thing is just a good marketing ploy, maybe they wanted it to be leaked?

        • @Ipiok: Well, the person who helped me got a manager and billing involved and no one could work it out. So the manager fixed it and now <2 hrs later I have been ported. So now to wait for the billing issues :p

  • This deal is active again.

    I just got it.

    • +3

Welcome to the world of unnecessary worries that is porting to Telstra secret deals that are not really secret.

  • Ordered the s5 on Friday. Got an email today saying its on the way. I am porting from boost. Do you guys think they will honour it ? Or am I gonna have troubles while activating.

    • Keen to hear your progress. Any chance theyll try slug you the extra $25 phone payment? Mine shows $70 as my first bill, but I took up the offer before it said "invitation only to Telstra prepaid customers" so think I have a good chance of it going my way

  • So annoying. Finally got the cancellation/unable to verify email for my wifes account. Took a week and a half to come through. In the meantime, had to recharge my boost credit yesterday to be able to make calls. Looks like only one day left until this deal expires, but dont really want to forgo my $40 boost credit in order to port to Telstra pre-paid to get this deal (especially if I'm not guaranteed that this will work anyway).

Oh well have to be happy with just getting mine done (shows $70 bill but ill sort that out tonight).

  • After receiving the original email for my partner, but missing out (due to expired), went through application on Friday (Telstra pre-paid to post paid) and received a notification this morning that his phone is on it's way. Since he already has an S5 (bought outright), hoping to sell.

  • +1

ok, this is the final result in case people are guessing and keep on being misinformed. there are two main points here:
    - handset payment for about $588.33 sth would be deducted every month until you reach 24 months minimum staying on with this casual plan, which means you badiclaly pay $45 only per month including the handset payment, no more no less, unless you get rid of the contract anytime in between the 24 month period then they will charge you the habdset fee based on the remaining months out of 24 - this is fair enough so that people have to commit to it for 24 months if they want the handset for free as per stated on contract originally.
    - your first bill is unavoidable issued as $70 BuT dont panic, give them a call and ask to speak to a case manager, he/she will then put a note on it so that before you pay your first (or even the second bill, they are fixing and updating the plan actually, that's why we all are confused - this is what the case manager told me) bill, you ring the Billing dept and quite the reference number that issued to you by the case manager you gonna talk to (INT-#), this is the painful part as I was on call for an hour waiting and waiting.
So, we are actually getting what we signed for, NO panic, JUST a bit of the pain about ringing Telstra :). Have fun guys

    • badiclaly = basically, quite = quote :) big thumb on HtC One M8 lol

  • Guys which option are you selecting to go through livechat. I can see others are already starting to make use of their plans. I have had the phone since 7 days ago. Activation underway email came through 6 days ago. Another email came through saying activation is successful 5 days ago. Number has still not been ported across. I have spoken to 2 reps over the phone and they tell me system is currently being updated and will take another 5-7 days. How come everyone is getting a different outcome.

    EDIT:

Spoke to soon. Telstra sim just started working and optus old sim stopped working.

  • I ordered the Galaxy S5 last Thursday night (25/06). I received the "Thanks for placing your order online with Telstra." email which outlines the contract.

    Product Name Upfront Cost
(billed to your credit card) Monthly Cost
    (billed to your mobile account)
    Go Mobile Casual Plan $45 - $45.00
    Samsung GALAXY S5 $0.00 $0.00
Telstra New Phone Feeling - Included
    Total including GST $0.00 $45.00
    Total GST $0.00 $4.09

The next Friday morning I received the Telstra "It’s on its way" email containing the StarTrack tracking number.

    26 Jun 2015 00:00 Freight Manifest Transmitted
26 Jun 2015 06:25 Received Advanced Shipping Notice

29 Jun 2015 11:18 Burwood Delivered and signed by xxxxxx

Received the phone today. Activated the sim online a few minutes ago.

I am a Vaya customer porting over to Telstra.

Its been flawless process for me.

    • you should say thanks to the people who contacted with Telstra before you lol

      • +7

        Thank you Web The Rapist.

        • +1

          it's Web Therapist ;)

        • +1

@webtherapist: Hopefully you can help Web overcome his sexual problems!

        • @eug: not a problem, booking for a session ;)?

    • That was very quick.

I also ordered Thursday night 25/6 and only received the "on its way" email this morning.

      I've also signed up for
      https://www.telstra.com.au/latest-offers/eofy-sale

Customer rep said I would still be eligible even though the new plan has not yet been activated and eofy offer finishes today.

      • how much data do you get with this plan?

        • $40 /mth
          Data Share SIM
          Month-to-Month term

Share Data + unlimited eligible voice
          100MB data

          $100 Welcome credit + 1GB data

        • @cheapsk8t:

That is what you get if you add the $40 data share SIM when signing up for a Go Mobile plan.

But are you sure the extra data is included as part of the eofy offer?

        • Well the eofy deal seems quite crap compared to the $45 Go mobile casual deal. Better to get two of those. Just another $5 for 2GB data.

        • @trippy:

The eofy deal also includes $100 credit. After selling the phone, I figure it will work out around $15/mth for unlimited calls and text, which is a good deal for my wife who uses little data.

    • My number is now ported over to Telstra. Yay!

It now shows under My Telstra account

  • +1

I'm in no rush to try and push it through. Telstra recharged my prepaid account $30 last week due to the system problems and i've used it for Google purchases. They can keep doing that every month for all i care. ;)

  • Anyone still waiting for activation/port who purchased on the first day? I received email and contracted, but new sim still not active.

    • I did today. I pretty much had to do live chat each day to push them to do it.

    • Did you activate through http://telstra.com/activate ????

Once you do that, you should expect to receive the "Your Telstra activation is underway" email which contains a reference number.

Then you just wait for the "Your Telstra service has been activated" email.

      • Yep. Activated the evening the phone arrived (Monday, a week ago) . Got email. Got the "is activated" email Tuesday lunchtime. Still ain't ported. I get the line from phone support that senior management are still looking into technical issues.

    • Number ported this morning, but it landed on a Telstra prepaid without credit. Called online sales and they had it activated to $45 plan. He mentioned that ports should be going through today so if you've been waiting for a week or so (like me), it's nearly there. Although, they still haven't fully resolved the "handset repayment" issue…

      • I activated this morning, should I expect it to get ported tonight?

  • Moved

  • Ordered Sunday. Received an email saying it's back-ordered. Live chat says I should expect a 2-4 week wait.

  • So anyone in Melbourne got a sealed black one and want so swap for a sealed white one?

  • -1

Ugghhhh just got a bill for $70.
Will wait until I receive my second sim and the number is ported [again/finally] before calling them to sort this shit out.
F$%k you, Telstra. It'll be worth it in the end. Maybe.

PS- S5 has much better reception than my S4. Rural tick ftw.

    • +1

Yeah, sorry telstra. Probably shouldn't have said that.
anyway for anyone running into this problem into the future- I have needed to tell the rep to physically sign up him/herself. They still don't believe me- the payment is in the critical summary. But it differs to the order information.
I've needed to email my contract order to the rep. Will keep you posted.

      KEEP ALL YOUR EMAIL CORRESPONDENCE.

      • +1

Came to the party. Credited my account $25 and has adjusted all future bills.
I can't stress this enough though- the original order confirmation is what swayed them. If I didn't have that, I would have been paying extra, as that's what states the total cost over 24 months.

So now I just need to wait for my new sim card and see whether my boost number actually ports….

  • hi all, looks like the link is active again and we can sign up again..the question is will they honor a new number sign up?

  • Anyone had any luck in selling their S5. I am looking at getting the data share plan and selling the phone of to reduce plan cost. What's the going rate?

  • I ordered a black S5 on Thursday night, got an email on Saturday saying that it is out of stock and yesterday (Monday) I got an email saying it is on its way. Just now I received an SMS on the Telstra pre-paid I am porting from, saying:

We'd like to confirm that you are now on a Shared Data plan. Your monthly shared data allowance is 2.00GB. There is 1 service in your Shared Data group who may use this data allowance.

    What does this mean?

    • I just checked my Telstra account online and the pre-paid has now been changed to the "Go Mobile Casual Plan $45". Some interesting details on the contract details page:

      • Contract has ended
      • Costs to alter contract: $600.00
        Includes:
        Plan early termination charge $0.00
        Device buy out $600.00

Since the contract has ended, I assume it will cost me $600 to get it going again ;)

    • You've been moved onto the new plan.

You're not the only one who was moved onto the plan before receiving the phone
      http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2419183&p…

  • Ok, I applied again. I hope it works this time

    • yay I got tracking number.. I hope no more surprises this time

  • Placed two orders this morning and have received tracking notices for both just now

  • Ordered S5 on Friday

Dropped and smashed S3 screen yesterday

    S5 arrived today

    Paranoid…searching for S5 case

    • What colour s5 did you order?

  • This offer has been extended to the 3rd of July.

    • rrreeeaaalllyyy???

      • really, really!!

        • yup says on the linked page.

  • Bringing your number from another carrier?

We'll need your customer account number (this is not your mobile number).
If you're on pre-paid, just the mobile number.

This info says that it's not exclusive for Telstra Pre-paid. :P

    • Signed up from Vodafone! Sweet.
  • It's been a major pain trying to sign up.

Its got to the point where, I'm not sure whether its worth switching, when MVNO will have access to the 4G network in 12 months.

There was a hint also, that there maybe other interesting offers coming up - not getting my hopes up though.
