10x25 Compact Binoculars $15 (were $30) @ Rays Outdoors

40

Slightly more powerful than the great binoculars deal offered by leederville recently (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/198282), these binoculars are half price. I was looking for a compact pair, and these seem to be the lowest price I could find.

Note that you may also find some in ALDI at the moment (different brand) for the same price of $15.

Both include a carry pouch with a belt loop for easy transport.

  • only 10 zoom?

    • They don't have zoom. Magnification is fixed….

      • only 10x?

        doesn't seem that big.

        I got a tasco that is 60x35

        • Not every one need huge magnification at all time, it depends on their purpose.
If your 60x35 is really at 60x magnification, I hope it has a image stabiliser feature on it as well as good low light ability.

        • I got a tasco that is 60x35

          For $15 ??? Where ?

        • +1

@edfoo: cheap binoculars marked "60x35" refer to an apparent field of view of 60 degrees.

Why on earth would a cheap manufacturer mark their binoculars that way? Everyone knows bigger numbers are better, so 60x35 must be better than 10x50 right :)

        • @Thrift: I see. So you mean tyler.durden got conned?

        • @edfoo: only if he thought he was buying 60x magnification.

It's not being conned if you buy a $2 "15 bajillion chumen LED torch" knowing it's going to be around 150-300 lumens in reality, nor if you have no idea what lumens are and you just want a cheap light-emitting device to check for zombies.

@Thrift: Well judging from his post earlier, it sounds like he was boasting about his Tasco 60x35 over this 10x magnification binoculars :D

    • You can get pairs of binoculars with higher magnification but I could not find any this compact with higher magnification. For me, compactness is a mandatory requirement - trying to get that balance between size and functionality is not easy.

      • Actually I got the same compactness size but at 60x35.

Mind is even more shorter than the one listed here.

        It's tasco brand.

        Similar to this

        https://www.mybenta.com/user_images/8373646.jpg

        but is it is
        -60x35
        -101M/1000M

        so 10X seems pretty low

        • Thanks for the tip - I'm interested to find out more. Where did you buy yours from?

Quickly googling up some specs on Ali baba gives some odd results.

          http://m.alibaba.com/product/494668569/Mystery-8x21-Foldable…

          http://m.alibaba.com/product/60149381986/Best-selling-60x35-…

Both refer to real magnification much lower than 60. Perhaps we have the same with different labels?

        • @moooooooo:

yeah I don't know why they would put 60x35?
and then real is either 8x or 10x…

Maybe someone who knows more could tell us what is 60x then..

        • +1

          @tyler.durden:

Maybe someone who knows more could tell us what is 60x then..

It means that it is a cheap Chinese fake…

        • @tyler.durden: I haven't found any answers online, but if you're still curious, you could measure them to see if they're 21, 25, or 35 aperture? That might help identify whether you've got 8x21, 10x25 or some other specs.

        • +1

@tyler.durden: 60° apparent field of view. It's their sneaky way of making their cheap binoculars sound impressive.

      • For me, compactness is a mandatory requirement

For me, aperture is just as important. You get a much brighter image at dawn and dusk…

        • But the binoculars would be less compact.

        • @tyler.durden:
If you want compactness, you should try a spyglass
          Arrrrrrrr

        • @outlander: I wonder what is the magnification on these old style telescope?
