CREE XPE Q5 600 Lumens Flashlight. USD $2.29 Delivered from Gearbest

1987

Lately there has been a dangerous imbalance between Eneloop AA offers and
Cree torches. So…

CREE XPE Q5 600 Lumens 7W Zoomable LED Flashlight 1 x AA / 14500
1 mode - none of that cycle through SOS mode while going to the toilet at night rubbish.
600 Lumens (and I'm sure there's not one lumen less than advertised).

    +1 for 1 mode only

    • Plus another 1.
Can't handle 4 mode torches, and six mode rear bike lights often with bad switches.

  • +9

Thanks for helping to return balance to the force…

  • +16

Depending on how cooked the snags and chicken were on camp, I need an SOS mode going to the toilet at night…

    • +13

sounds like anyone else sleeping near you might be more in need of the SOS

      • +2

One way to keep the dingoes away ;-)

        • +2

          too soon

  • +1

    Is this thing worth buying?

  • +4

    Thankyou.

Topped up with anotehr 5 for the gf and around her house

    • +19

      one for each gf?

      • +1

        Got to keep them illuminated

      • -3

You have to keep them in the light all the time.

      • +6

Is that a torch in your pocket or are you just happy to Cree me?

        I'll get my coat.

    • +1

      She can't be too bright.

  • +2

Can someone please comment which is the better torch. The one in the deal, or this one?

I have a discount coupon which makes them similar in price. Thanks in advance :)

    • From what I can tell, the one you linked to is not as bright, but does have a zoom function for the beam? Maybe others will spot other differences.

      • +19

thanks for illuminating us on the differences

      • +1

The linked one is as bright as Cree XPE can be, max 306 lumens, http://flashlightwiki.com/Cree#XP-E

The current one, at 600 lumens, claims an impossible brightness.

        • +1

Thanks epic. So if you could get the one I linked to at US$2.49, which would you choose?

        • +1

@tightarse: I have several flashlights, including the linked one in 3-mode version, and note from the photos that the cheaper one has poor, thin aluminium body. I'd not buy it.

Incidentally, while 1-mode is a solution for the cycle through issue, it comes with heavy energy use at around 1.2A for XPE with 1.5V battery boost driver circuit. I'd look for multi-mode versions with last-mode memory instead, where battery can last several hours when used at 5%-30% brightness mode.

        • @tightarse:

Hi TA, could you please share the code for the one with zoomable function? Cheers

        • If you order one with your code can you please post it to see if it is one use or multi use? @tightarse:

    • +4

I have both. The one you linked has better build quality but is slightly bulkier. The beam also has a slightly better focus (wide angle mode circle is better circumscribed). Brightness is the same for both (same LEDs)

      • Thanks Livert. See my comment above to epic. Cheers.

        • +3

I'd just get the cheaper one.

      • -1

I agree. The other one you've linked has a bulkier but sturdier build.

    • +1

Any chance of sharing the code? Those are my preferred torch but the standard price isn't the best, a discount would allow me to home more Eneloops

  • -3

Thanks, this will come in handy when I need to see the light.

    • Or when it's dark, and you can't find a torch.

  • I have the same torch on my push bike from another deal they are great was just thinking the other day of adding another for a dual beam setup.

  • my and another users comments about the last deal (bottom of post) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/191604

i've asked them to test with AA batteries before resending to make sure they work this time

    • +1

      Someone on that thread posted

      http://m.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_5496.html

Is a better buy and guarantee to work with AA batteries. I would buy that instead only but less than $5

      • hehe yeah they're good ones. i bought a bunch for around $3.50 like a year ago; all of them are still going strong :)

it'll be interesting to see how they compare with this model (assuming i get working ones this time!)

        • Just ordered 2 $6.78 USD not too bad Ultrafire is better than this CREE XPE Q5, I had a CREE its broken after a year

  • should we pay in USD2.29 or AUD3.00?

    • -3

      Maths

    • +1

Came to au$2.93 so slightly cheaper paying in us$.

  • Thanks, great little torches

  • must resist…

  • This is interesting, I thought the 14500 battery powered one would allow a stronger light - lumen.

  • 600 lumens - classic :)

    • +11

      It's real Chinese PMPO lumens

      • +1

        Is that 5W RMS?

        • At the rear wheels!

  • Good price.
We all hate multi-mode torches, but high/low mode would be useful in a AA torch like this.
Draws around 0.7A, so you get a couple of hours use, and around 50 lumens.

I guess more from a li-ion 14500, but 50 lumens is about the same as a 3D Maglite from days of yore.
Arkane is rather gullible for putting "600 lumens" in the title.

  • last time i ordered from those guys it took them 2 month to deliver the item and it was a 10$ waterproof bluetooth device.
they are based in Singapore.i hope they improved with their order and delivery system.

  • +4

For the night is dark and full of terrors…

    • +4

      … and winter is coming

      • +8

winter will be over by the time they delivery it. or did you mean winter 2016?

      • What a horrible night to have a curse

  • Great very convenient torch, if the button will do more than one mode at lease just flashing and steady would suit for bikes very well.. light weight, slim and easy to carry

    • +8

Please DO NOT use flashing mode on bikes with high-power Cree torches
That was great in the old days of 5mm white LEDs, but even these torches are so bright that blinking is a hazard.

If I see oncoming cyclists with high-power LEDs flashing, I give them any eye-full of my Cree XM-L spotlight in full strobe mode until they turn theirs off. Or hit a tree.

      • Taste my cold HA II aluminium bitches!

      • I hope you do this from a car!

        • They are so bright he does it from his plane ;-)

      • -1

I really hate those brainless cyclists using high-power Cree torches with flashing mode!

if they flash & blinded the opposite driver(putting the driver in danger)
driver will drive off path & hit the the stupid oncoming cyclist too(putting cyclist/themselves in danger)

  • Bought two. Thanks OP!

  • Cheers purchased two and went through cashrewards.

Is this site legit, looks like scam?

    • +7

      Gearbest is legit

    • +1

      How dare you criticise OzBargain!
      Get out!!

    • -1

Wow Click_It, was not criticizing OB, just asking a simple question about GearBest. If you do a search on that site the review of the site is not flattering that's all, however responses like yours give OB a bad name.

      • +1

I am sure Click_it said that tongue-in-cheek. I don't think you have anything to worry about :) Take it as a compliment he/she took the time to give us all a smile.

        • +1

Indeed I was just being facetious. Whoa!.. He is new here, he'll learn our ways in time.

Perhaps I should know better than to joke around in an Eneloop or Cree thread, tensions run high :P

  • are there any different from http://m.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_5496.html
because this one is 74% compare to the top is only 70%
    ?
my brother had one of the ultrafire given as a gift when he was in the US, 3 mode, pretty bright

also if paying by USD via paypal: **A currency conversion fee may apply to either the sender or recipient.

bank charges like 50c for converting from usd to aud

so paying via aud may be a better choice, unless they update their policy now

    • bank charges like 50c for converting from usd to aud

      you must be NEW here!

      • yeah i am, i usually only look for fast fatty food deals, and when i purchae from international, bank charges me for currency conversion, i think i selected USD, can't remember now
anyhow anyone got their orders yet? wonder when i will get it

  • +1 for the deal description, one of the better ones indeed :)

And thanks, I recently misplaced 4 torches so I'm going to buy 5 or 6 new ones for good measure.

  • and I'm sure there's not one lumen less than advertised

I'm sure it will be more than advertised!

Sorry on mobile cbf with quote formatting…

    +1 for description!

  • +4

Does anyone have an AMEAICEN EPRHESS as they accept it?

  • I am using a iCloud email account and my account won't activate does anyone else have this problem?

  • Do I need to purchase an "AA 14500" in order to get the max brightness? Can I use a standard AA battery instead?

    • +1

u will get the lumens anyway!
'and I'm sure there's not one lumen less than advertised'

    • Forget the max brightness (which will probably burn the led out) and just use AA.

  • redeemed some points and managed to get 1 for US$1.61

  • Can someone suggest a good place to buy a 14500 battery (and charger) from?

  • +2

    I just bought four.
    I don't know why.

    • +3

      because night.

      • +2

Great comment, in only 2 words, you said so much! Made me LOL.

  • -2

Can someone illuminate me as to what a Lumen is?
I don't mean some daggy link to a Wikipedia definition, but a real world example of how brightness is measured?

    • It is equal to one foot candle, the illumination on a surface one foot from a one candela source. Real world enough?

  • Can standard AA battery work? If yes I buy

    • Yes, but a rechargable is best due to the high current drawn.

  • Has anyone ever purchased anything else from this site? I'm interested in possibly purchasing a drone from them to play with.

    • Yes. They are generally very good. Many many deals for them posted here. This previous deal and comments might give you a relevant reference. I've bought lots of stuff from them, and never had any problems. Usual delays from a seller located in China, but as long as you don't expect it to arrive much faster than a month from now, then should be fine.

  • Thanks OP. Just bought 6 to give to family members. These are great for finding my wheelie bin at night time.

    • 6 for family, I hope you bought another 6 for yourself? :)

  • +1

    What is CREE?

    • +1

One of the leading brands for LED chips. Considered high quality LED's with high light-output (lumens) for a given wattage. Of course it is not a guarantee that the device which uses the LED chip is any good. Plenty of poor-quality light fittings out there containing CREE chips.
