CREE XPE Q5 600 Lumens Flashlight. USD $2.29 Delivered from Gearbest

1987

Lately there has been a dangerous imbalance between Eneloop AA offers and
Cree torches. So…

CREE XPE Q5 600 Lumens 7W Zoomable LED Flashlight 1 x AA / 14500
1 mode - none of that cycle through SOS mode while going to the toilet at night rubbish.
600 Lumens (and I'm sure there's not one lumen less than advertised).

i thought cree were a race of super powered aliens ?
hmm these torches may not be as interesting as i imagined :P

this torch doesn't quite qualify as "Ancient Cree Artifact"

        • No, that's the "Kree". They got together and started up a rock band a while back.

don't get me started on "Swarovski" crystals or "elements by Swarovski"

Thanks OP just bought 2 for home.

I just bought 4 for my mother-in-law. It was an effort, but gearbest eventually accepted the trade, and now I'm happy and have 4 torches!

Bought one and it came yesterday, didn't work..

I wouldn't go to work either If my flashlight appeared in my mail :P

There have been plenty of complaints about these the torches priced at $2.29 which have the name CREE which are simply dont work.

CREE themselves don't make torches. So anyone can slap a CREE label onto their torches. So basically you paid $2.29 for battery holder, lol

  • Thanks OP

Is this a good torch or just a cheap torch?

I need a reliable torch. I dont have a torch at all.

    Would appreciate any advice.

  • Have bought them in the past and haven't been any issues.

However bought 8 for family members

Just received my order, all 8 didn't work.

Will be interesting to hear if anyone else got duds.

  • Haven't received mine yet. Ordered 6 of them back on the 14th May, 3 got dispatched a day later, and the remaining 3 got dispatched just yesterday. I'll assume they ran out of stock and just got a new batch in.

  • Had bought on the same day this deal was posted. Got it today and it is not working :( Very disappointing

  • I ordered 3, just got them, all 3 dead. dissapointing. no wonder they're giving them this cheap. I'm sure they've figured a good amount won't claim it. Any luck with refunds?

  • got mine. Doesn't work.

  • I ordered 2 and got them today. None works :(

  • received today but it's still 3 mode like the others

What's with this flood of DOA's from Gearbest? - surely a rep should respond!

    • +2

I bet their enjoying their $$$$$$$$

  • I got mine today, and it's also dead. :(

They should change their name to Gearworst!

So I originally gave the deal a +, but after receiving a DOA, I want to give the deal a -, but can't.
Something is very wrong with this system.

Just got it today, doesn't even work, rubbish product. Anybody tried to get a refund from them in the past? It's only a few bucks, but still, should work nonetheless, right?

  • Received mine yesterday, but it's not working.

  • I sent this message yesterday on their website -

"I received the flashlight today but it does not work.
    This website -
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/194068?page=1#comment-2769…
shows that a number of us have received faulty flashlights.

    I want a refund."

    They sent this today -

"I am so sorry for this inconvenience.

We are preparing to get you refund $2.29. Please wait 3-5 business days.
Please feel free to contact us again for any further question.

Hope you have a good day. "

    We'll see what happens

  • I've received different model from what's posted on here. It looks almost identical, other than the printing "Ultrafire AT-805". Also it has a SOS mode.

  • I havnt recieved mine yet….Might ask for a refund if a lot of u guys are having issues.

  • Flashlights do not work.. faulty product

  • I ordered 2, hope they work… Can't believe so many people are getting dud ones…

  • +1

    My 4 flashlights arrived today.

3 are DOA. The 1 that does work is not as described… has 3 modes (low, strobe, high) instead of the single on/off mode advertised.

Have started the process to try and get a refund, but GearBest's initial response has been underwhelming, particularly on the back of having to fight for a refund on the 2 dud flashlights I received on the last deal.

    Meh.

    • Does yours have "Ultrafire AT-805" printed on it? I think I've got the same one as yours.

      • Nothing at all printed on them, but they do look the same as the picture on the product page.

  • I haven't received mine yet and I'm from SA. If it doesn't arrive in by tomorrow I might as well start the refund process since it seems it'll most likely be DOA anyways.

  • pretty sure their supplier plays up this time!

bought a lot of stuff from them & was all good, no complaint! :-)

  • They're trying to deny me the refund now after sending DOA flashlights, absolute scum

  • I'm assuming mine will be DOA too. Disappointing… Has anyone contacted PayPal for a refund?

  • did u use CC option in Paypal?

paypal gives 41 or 45 days to claim, after that they close, and in order to reopen, u need to contact your bank and request for a chargeback, they will tell Paypal to reopen the case, then if GB don't respond, then the odds will be in your favor, the banks give you 120days on a cc transaction to do chargeback

  • Received 3 silver torches today. 2 DOA. 1 working. The working one has flashing mode and NO cree xd-805 labelling on it.

The problem on the DOA ones isn't the switch as I swapped it over to the working torch and the switch works fine.

  • received (silver) a few days ago, DOA

  • got mines today, both seen to work fine. cree q5 label is printed on

  • Just received a refund in my paypal account today for the DOA torch.

  • Got mine today. Out of the 5 I ordered 2 do not work. The ones which do not work have the CREE and the XD-805 markings whereas the working ones only have the CREE marking. I think it may be a design fault as the driver circuit is different in the respective working/non-working. Also they seem to all be three mode but this is just in the design of the endcap/switch. Put in a ticket with gearpest, see how the refund goes.

  • Got mine this afternoon. Seems to work but does not have the Cree label in any shape or form. Should I ask for a refund?

  • Got the 2 I ordered, both work but are 3 mode (off/on/flashing). They feel like counterfeits, they have no branding. However I got mine for just over a buck each thanks to some gb points I had from a dashcam purchase, so no big deal. Good enough for low end jobs…

Gb product procurement seems to be getting more dubious as time goes on…

    • I think I got the same product as you. Look like counterfeits, so I'm still considering contacting Paypal about a dispute. It's the principle of it all in the end.

  • Got three silver, none work. Still waiting on the black ones.

  • An eneloop AA is rated at just on 2Ah.

    1.2V x 2Ah / 7W seems to give just a 20 minute runtime?

    600lm @ ~80lm/W would seem to draw 7W - plus overheads?

BUT might appear half as bright if only 150lm - (150/600)^0.5?

  • Received my two flashlights today. To my surprise both were as pictured (With CREE labelling) and were working!

  • Received my three today, all working but not as advertised. No CREE labelling, and all are 3 mode which is annoying.

  • I received mine today, it looks exactly like the one pictured, but it has that 3 mode nonsense not on/off like advertised.

  • received today.
No labels and has 3 modes (on/half on/flashing).
will ask for refund as it looks fake and does not work as described.
has e-b08-b5-303 label on the package.

    • My advice is to not waste any time starting a dispute via PayPal.

The best (and only) offer Gearbest would make me via their own support centre, for 3 X DOA and 1 X 3 mode, was 50% store credit or I pay $2 for them to resend.

Via the PayPal process, they refunded me in full within 24 hours, without having to even raise it up to a full dispute for PayPal to investigate.

      Customer service fail.

      • Sounds like a good advise.
Raised a ticket with Gearbeast, in 24 hours got a request to provide all the information I already submitted.
I guess they rely on me giving up (just $2 worth of trouble).

Also ordered a dashcam a few weeks ago.. still not posted.

  • still waiting for mine…

    • 3/3 work

All say Cree q5 (black casing)
      All on/off only

      sticker on box

      E-B08-B5-303

      126288001

      15.05.25

but they aren't as strong as other 1x AA LED lights I've got

  • lol, i payed for getting tracking, it's kind of useless. so don't pay for it.

all i got from singpost is,

    received from customer (23/5/2015)
    despatch to overseas (25/5/2015)

…still waiting for it though, hope they send from a good batch. fingers cross

but i bought it on 15/5/2015, they took my money on 15/5/2015…

  • Hm, got mine a few days ago:

No labels and has 3 modes, it works.

So, clearly a fake. Not sure if I am prepared to waste my time over a dispute.

  • Update: Mine stopped working today. Started a PayPal dispute.

    • Mine one has not even arrived yet, bought one shortly after the deal was published here.

May need to open PayPal dispute as well, was thinking buying Olight from Gearbest but now will not be risking, Gearbest failed again.
