This is a good deal, thanks!!
Comes to $69.56 AUD on Paypal

  • These guys any good compared to PIA?

    • +1

Depends if no logs being kept is important to you. PIA also allows u to connect to 5 devices, this is 1 at a time. Also I'm pretty sure there's only a limited number of servers that allow torrents.

      • Sorry so I assume these guys keep logs?
I only torrent so no logs is a must.
Hidemyass was great for speeds but pretty sure they lie about not keeping logs

  • They only keep logs during the trial for some reason. after that no. (remember reading a comparison on some torrent site)

    • +1

they keep them for all account types, they just claim they dont keep traffic logs
"We will however record and keep the following data for 7 days:

      • Time, date and location VPN connection was made.
      • Duration of the VPN connection.
      • Bandwidth used during the connection."

  • +1

What are their speeds like ? Are they good enough for streaming Netflix etc and afl? New to vpn stuff so just starting research. Your comments on which this or other vpn would be appreciated. Cheers

    • I'm also looking into this now that I'm in Singapore! Trying to find one which has decent speeds as well as offering multiple simultaneous device support.

      • Then this isn't for u. This is limited to 1 simultaneous connection

        • Doesn't matter necessarily, if you use OpenWRT or DD-WRT on your router you can just set up the router to be behind the VPN.

        • @ausmechkeyboards: this is true if you roger supports that, unfortunately mine doesn't.

Included is a smart DNS service apart from the VPN, so speeds for Netflix & BBC iPlayer are fine but I've heard that Hulu detects it & will not stream

  • The new proposed Bill could block VPNs anyway:

    • These guys keep internet logs for 7 days..

Good luck governing and policing this. Even China (with a much larger investment in their Great Firewall) cannot do this let alone some measly Australian Government. This would screw up almost every commercial company, every telco and provider since underlying it all are VPN's everywheres.

      • They wouldn't try to block the usage of VPNs on wholesale basis. Just prevent access from Australia to any IP addresses registered to specific VPN companies. Unfortunately it's very doable as demonstrated when Netflix blocked a load of VPN users outside of the US from using their US service. It's probably not worth the effort given that IP ranges can be a moving target, but since when has that ever stopped the misguided from trying!

    • Drunk on power.

  • Are they good for 4 years?

    • They've been around for a long time, they're one of the bigger (cheaper) players in the market.

  • I got a similar deal with them a few weeks ago. I only use the VPN connection for a seedbox, so uptime isn't very important to me, but it does seem to drop a few times a day. The client software they provide is utter crap; I had to set the VPN up manually in windows, then use a combination of a freeware program and a windows scheduled task to close and re-open applications that I only want to use the VPN connection.

The smart DNS works well though. I set up a bunch of cmd scripts to change the DNS settings to each region and put them on my desktop.

  • First Australian review Google throws up is this one…

"Price is good but if you live in Australia do not bother. Speed rarely exceed 15kb/s and only one European server works (Paris). I did not try US servers but do not believe speed could be reasonable."

    Anyone with different experiences?

    • Mm, to answer my own question: "Using Speedtest.net I was able to achieve 6.60Mb/s down, with a ping of 188ms, not bad for connecting to the other side of the planet."

    • Only used it for a little while, but found it to be ok. Currently downloading a test p2p file, speed ranging between 20 kB/s to well over 200kB/s. Average probably around the 150 to 200 mark - which was around the same speed as when I switched off the vpn connection and went direct. That's via HongKong, using openvpn. Switched to Luxembourg and speed was slower ie around the 60 mark. Switched to Amsterdam, and back to speeds similar to direct.

So overall for me I've found the speed difference for files may not be significant depending on where the the seeders are and if you choose the right server, which is probably a common issue with most VPN providers. The client has a lot of features which are good, but not sure about the stability as have had it crash a few times - currently seems to be running fine, but can't say I really trust it yet. Might be better off setting up a manual connection if you run into issues with the gui tool. This is under OSX (current version) so your mileage may vary using another o/s. On my todo list is shifting it to the router and see what happens there.

So overall for around the AUD$70 mark for 4 years with this deal (ie less than $20 per year), I reckon this is definitely a bargain.

    • +1

      I used the Melbourne server.

Ping was slower at 55ms, down/up load speed was very similar.

For under $70 for 4 years, it's great.

  • Just signed up for it. Forgot to use the coupon :( Either way, $60usd for 4 years isn't bad. Speed wise, according to speediest on my iPhone, my 300Mbps connection in Singapore just got 4ms/150Mbps/150Mbps (usually get closer to 300) on the speediest (it's peak period here), and running the same on a HK server and HK vpn I get 72ms/25Mbps/9.8Mbps. Not bad.

  • Thanks EC.
