I think i need to cut back :(.
    ANZ platinum - 6k
    ANZ standard - 1k
    Citibank sig - 15k
    CBA plat - 6k
    CBA plat - 15k
    CBA gold - 10k
    CBA visa - 1k
    AMEX gold - 6.4k
    28deg - 5k

    • Nice one… 65.4k total
Had enough CBA credit cards yet?! Haha

      • lol i should just cash advance them all and flee.
tbh didn't think id get the recent cba plat (considering I already have one).
Going to do a mass cull in the next month or so.

    • You can never have enough cards.

    • nice

Can someone experienced explain more about the "buy an airfare and get it refunded" concept?

So I spend the $500 in this case (or $3k in some other cases) and nothing more on the card.
Say I have another card from say… ANZ, equal or higher credit limit, currently nothing spent on it (i.e. sitting at balance of the credit limit).

If I get it refunded to the ANZ card, it would put the balance into "credit" (for want of a better word) right? I.e. it would be credit limit+refunded fare value? Almost like one of those "pre paid" travel cards for example.

So I'll still get a bill for the cost of the $500 fare on the CBA card. Normally paying a credit card bill with another CC is counted as a cash advance right? But what if my account is in credit as described above? Is this a cash advance or not? And even if it is, wouldn't the extra credit from the airfare refund cancel it out?

And the more important corollary is: what's to stop me doing this constantly between a few cards?
I.e. spend with card A, refund to card B so card A still gets the points, pay off card A with card B, wash rinse repeat?

    • That all sounds right, but u can sometimes withdraw the excess for cash advance fee if you just want to get access to it.
I think you could also request them to send you a cheque (just tell them you cancelled the card).
Might be a bit easier, but would be worth calling the agent/airline to ask this separately.

  • Got the card, but still confused with how we update the Qantas FF number. Anyone knows? Read the topic and haven`t seen any definitive answer. THanks.

    • +1

I rang them up and gave them my QFF details.

  • +2

Just received some paperwork from the bank. Credit card type - Awards Card

Guess I'll be calling them to cancel.

    • +3

Yeah, F*** that. I just called them and they fed me some bs and told me to go into a branch to cancel my application and/or netbank. F*** them. I just won't reply to their request for payslip and hopefully it will auto cancel at some stage.

I can't get over the fact I apply for credit card X and they reply with "congrats! here is credit card Y.". Wtf.

    • Yeah same. Called and cancelled.
They said it requires a $6k minimum and they could only offer me $4k.
Given I already have Black and Platinum cards, I can only assume they don't want to extend my credit further.

    • I too got approved for a CBA Gold Awards Mastercard with a $4k even though this wasn't an option during the application process for the Platinum Card. Contacted their team last week who said they would get back to me. Still waiting.

  • +3

Received the platinum awards cards and spoke to cba customer service for qff points. They have advised to contact 131661 Mon - Fri business hours to opt-in for qantas points.

  • +3

My status has been 'conditionally approved' for over a week now. I have uploaded both documents. Is this normal?

    • +1

Been 8 days for me now, last saturday. Still says I need to upload two documents. It's a bug and the doccies will have gone through. Commonwealth is just taking its sweet, sweet time.

    • +1

      In the same boat!

      • Update: had a letter in the mail yesterday asking me to call up. Guy told me they needed my 'signature', so he sent me the cc terms and conditions to my netbank inbox. After clicking the link he could then finish the process. Status now shows 'approved'. :)

  • I got my cards early last week. I noticed though that you have to ask CBA to link your cards to QFF in order to earn QFF points. Any spend on the cards before you do this can't be transferred apparently. Seems a bit strange for a deal offering you 40,000 QFF points on signup?

    • +1

I just called and went through the whole linking process too.

I was told points are processed once a billing cycle so any spend I have already done would get converted to points at the end of my cycle.
I think it depends on how long it took you to get the accounts linked, I'd imagine any points accumulated on the previous cycle are not transferable.

      • I hadn't used mine so no issue there.

      • Same here, called them up today. Just want to ensure my QFF is linked before I really start to use this card.
BTW, I would probably use this AMEX as my main card for now due to 1.25pt per dollar spend. And see how it goes towards the end of 1 year period.

        • Just so you know, you will earn Commbank reward points and not QFF, they will transfer the commbank points at 2 to 1 ration to your QFF account.

        • @nadan:
          yeah,
2.5 Commbank pt per dollar spent on Amex, which equals 1.25 Qantas Point.

  • +4

    Card activated on Friday.
I went to CommBank today and they called 131 661 for me and linked my Comm Awards to my Frequent Flyer Account.
I've just put the required amount ($500+) through and I will keep you posted on the results.
I have seen no sign of the $10 Qantas Frequent Flyer Direct opt-in fee, nor the annual fee (that later gets refunded?).

  • Their Phone service is absolutely useless. They have asked me for yet more documents, and so I rang them and they could give me no details about anything!! Including whether my provisional approval was for 'platinum', and also about what docs they NOW want copies of. Citibank were a hell-of-a-lot more efficient when dealing with their previous offers. I will have absolutely no guilt about taking 40,000 QFF from them and then closing the account. And when they ask "But why?" I will unload on them about their phone service.

    • Same here, I just got off the phone with them too about why I can't activate the cards I just received, as apparently there's a fraudulent block on them, please ring us on another number during business hours, blah blah. Though they think its because they need more information. My account did have the 'duplicate payslip bug' previously, so I imagine that's something to do with my block. I gave them my QFF number while I was at it, though I'm sure it's now written on a post-it amongst a bunch of other scraps of paper. Now I'm wondering if providing them a QFF number outside of the offer process makes us ineligible for the 40K offer? Fun times ahead with CommBank!

      • Update: I need to go into a branch to show them my drivers license. I feel like I'm a contestant on the Amazing Race!

      • So I finally applied, got 'we need a little more information.' Also asks me to upload payslips. Is that what you got, or did they conditionally approve you?

Has anybody here been flat out rejected? I don't care what card they give me - I just want a card for which they'll honour the deal. :)

        • +1

LOL - the OP applied for his deal!

It brings shivers down my spine thinking back, but yes I had to upload payslips. I could write a novel retracing my journey through my comments here…

          6/5/15 apply online
          6/5/15 upload payslips
10/5/15 email from CommBank requesting to upload payslips (already did that)
          18/5/15 receive cards
18/5/15 can't activate online, cards blocked, call back tomorrow
19/5/15 called back, told to go into a branch with drivers' license
          19/5/15 charged $10 QFF fee
21/5/15 provided drivers' license to staff member in morning, waited while they were scanned and entered into computer
21/5/15 called in evening, they haven't received drivers' license, asked to go back to branch with drivers' license again
22/5/15 back to the branch, previous staff member forgot to tick a box. Now I need to return with bank statements, tax assessment, utility bills
25/5/15 provide the branch with bank statements, tax assessment, utility bills
          25/5/15 charged $249 annual fee
28/5/15 emailed asking for a status update on blocked cards
1/6/15 emailed again asking for a status update
2/6/15 first statement received ($249 annual fee + $10 QFF fee)
4/6/15 comm from bank (pun) to advise my cards are finally unblocked
5/6/15 confirmed cards unblocked with first spend
          8/6/15 $500+ spend achieved

So it took 12 days to receive my cards, 17 days to unblock them, 4 days to blow $500, and hopefully less than 3 months from my final spend to be refunded $249 and receive the 40K+ QFF points.

        • @muncan: Dafuq?!

Why do they need tax assessments and utility bills?

        • +2

@JohnHowardsEyebrows: It's probably just a sick game they play. We play their game, then they play ours.

        • @muncan: Back to when you applied - do you recall if you had conditional approval, or did their say 'we need a little more information'?

And yes, true, we definitely get our pound of flesh. I had the awkward call with NAB tonight, giving vague reasons for why I was cancelling. No bonuses. Though I did get offered 2,000 for not closing my Woolworths card (I'll close it when the points come through).

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows: pretty sure my message was along the lines of "we're unable to give you an answer right now" (my usual response).

My line when cancelling is always "I haven't been using your card, as I've moved to a different lender's card with a bonus points offer. That, and I have too many cards!". As you know, let them do their job in convincing you to stay with any sweeteners they have to offer.

    Hi all,

    got a question here.
When the bill/statement comes, how could I make payment onto my CBA credit card account, without having a transaction account with CBA?
    Am currently with NAB.

Will I be able to BPAY from NAB to the CBA account, same way as paying water / electricity bill?

    Any help is appreciated. Ta

btw I called them up on 131661 to link my QFF number to the account. For those still not sure what to do.

    • Yep you can BPAY it like any other bill, in the manner which is most pleasing to you. I don't bother with setting up online accounts for all these temporary credit cards if I don't have to.

      • haha, same with my cancelled ANZ card, did not even bother setting up online access

      • -1

ah so I can pay CBA credit card by using NAB credit card. sweet! Thanks Muncan

        • +6

If it lets you, I understand that's classified as a cash advance, and you will be charged with interest accordingly.

        • +1

As Muncan said, it'd be a cash advance, which is charged interest, and doesn't qualify for points/minimum spend for bonus points.

Your original question was whether you could pay one bank's credit card from another bank's transaction account. Obviously you can.

    • +1

I'm quite certain that CBA does not award CC points on BPAY payments. Should you have, for example, a utility bill, best practice is to pay your bill with your CBA CC via the utility's website. As I read somewhere once, BPAY ought to be avoided like the plague, if you're paying with a CBA CC and are serious about points accumulation.

  • +2

Did anyone else find nothing in the paperwork that comes with the card about the bonus 40,000 QFF points or the first year fee waived?

    • Exact same here! Went through it all, and not a single mention.
The promotional page required you to sign up via the link on that specific page, but there doesn't seem to be any evidence of this?
Anyone spoken to CommBank and been told that it is still going ahead (the bonus points that is)..

      • The staff member who took my drivers license confirmed that I would "totally get the points uhuh". Though my cards are still blocked so I don't believe a word they say. Especially since the 'apply now' button on the OP link goes to exactly the same page as the 'apply now' button on the normal signup page. I don't suppose they're giving 40,000 bonus points to all applicants, including those not aware of the offer?

        • LOL - called them again to find out what's going on with my blocked cards. As I anticipated, the staff member who took a copy of my drivers licence totally didn't forward it on to the appropriate team, and I have to go back to a branch and provide my drivers licence a second time. *%&# this, ain't nobody got time for that!
(OK, fine, I have heaps of time…)

        • Captain's log, stardate 201505.22 - I popped back in to my branch with my drivers licence a second time. After a while it's discovered that the previous staff member forgot to tick the 'documents sighted' checkbox. Now the checkbox is ticked, they now need even more documentation (bank statements, tax assessment, utility bills).
I'm thinking that it's easier getting into the United States.

        • @muncan:
Unless you have a muslim sounding name :)

        • @nadan: 'muncan' does look like 'muslim' when I squint at it. Hmmm.

    • Yeah, same here. Sent an email through the contact form on their awards website, and they confirmed that I'll get the points as long as I meet the minimum spend criteria.
(I prefer doing things like this via email, so I have written evidence, just in case.)

  • I've just been charged the $10 "QANTAS FF DIRECT FEE". My $500+ minimum spend amount is still "pending", no sign of the annual fee.

    • +1

same here regarding with $10 fee and no annual fee
though noticed that Pending status took at least 3 days to clear

  • Sorry another application-related question. Was anyone else asked for copies of existing loan statemements and credit card bills?

  • +3

Got approved 2 days ago and card arrived today,,,it was gold awards but in fact i applied for platinum awards,,,,so p off,,,,going to cancel tomorrow,,,it would be nice if they called or reject my platinum awards application Instead of sending me some shitty cards which i dont want

  • +1

I have applied following the link and got the basic Award credit card instead of the platinum!? Did the same happen to some of you?
Anyway, I will call CBA tomorrow to get some explanations.
Edit: OK, I guess I am not alone in this situation. Will ring them to cancel those useless cards..

  • Evidently one can check the progress of their application by, according to them, "Simply go to 'My applications' within 'Offers & apply'." It's not that simple. I cannot find these links!

    • Do you already have a netbank login?
The "Offers & apply" link should be in the top header menu once you log on.

  • I wonder if you get approved for an awards card instead of the platinum card, and you cancel it straight away, will it still have negatively affected your credit rating?

    • +1

Yes. Credit enquiries are more or less instant, and never removed (unless in error) before their 5 year expiry.

  • Got an e-mail and message to say i was approved today… got home to find the cards in my mailbox.
    Fast postage :P

No mention of annual fee waived and bonus points though.
Doesn't concern me, they should honor their deal.

  • +5

Just wanted to let you guys know, that although you WILL eventually get automatically opted-in to the QFF Direct, this will only occur at the end of the promotional period ie after July 31. This then leaves you just one month to spend the $500 by Aug 31.
If you call up their Awards phone line, you can choose to opt in immediately and will start accumulating QFF points from the first time you use the card. Otherwise you will just accumulate Awards points, not QFF points.
I found this out today after activating my card and logging into Awards only to find no mention of QFF, then giving them a call.
    Hope this helps, cheers.

    • +1

thanks for clarifying as it's so confusing, though many of us already called to opt in. But your finding will definitely help anyone who has not called.

  • Any existing customers who already have a CBA credit card (e.g. diamond card) applied for this? if you had the existing card collecting CBA rewards points, can you have this new platinum card collect Qantas points? Will this work?

    • +1

yep i do, i have another platinum which i got to get qff points last year.
Approved and got this one linked up to my qff too.

  • Are you not better off with receiving commbank awards points on your other card than QFF points?

    • +2

most of us here are QFF points collectors :)

  • I just used live online chat to ask about linking my QFF number, they couldn't help me online but called me straight away and transferred me to an Awards specialist.

She linked my Qantas account up and I asked if she could confirm that I had correctly been signed up to receiving the bonus 40,000 points since there was no mention of it in the mail.
She said that as long as I signed up using the link, then I would get the annual fee refunded in 60 days and the bonus points within 90 days of spending $500. Sounded like she was familiar with it so I'll trust her on it!

She also said that anything I've spent so far will earn QFF points rather than Awards points as it's applied at the first statement but for me it doesn't matter since I just got the card today anyway.

    • Did you get the Platinum? Wondering what they do with people downgraded to gold/standard.

      • +5

I just got off the phone with them. I was downgraded to the Gold, and the rep said that the same offer applies to the gold class (i.e. fee refund, and 40k points if you spend $500). The only difference is that the point per dollar spend ratio will be lower on the Gold compared to the Platinum.

      • Yeah I got the Platinum with the minimum of $6000.
Have the people who got downgraded been offered less credit too?

  • Received letter today that I am conditionally approved for Gold.
    Credit limit $4,500.

    • Just checked netbank and I'm also approved for Gold with a $4000 limit. Hope I still get the points and fee refund!

      • +1

like wen6309 above, I got approved for Gold and they have confirmed that we also get the fee refund and 40k QFF points

        • Did you have to call and request for it or everyone gets it?

        • +1

          @praga:
I raised the issue when I linked to QFF.
They added notes to my account.

        • @kingsville: Cheers mate, will try when I get my card.

        • @kingsville: I just got off the phone with them, but the rep said I wont be getting this promotion as it is for Platinum card holders only. He double confirmed me. Lets see what happens.

        • @praga: Which card were you given? Gold?

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows: Yes thats correct with $5000 credit limit

        • @praga: Sounds like you just need to speak to a different rep.

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows: Yeah, Im going to try another rep in the arvo. Did he put a note on your account as well like kingsville said or he just confirmed the promotion.

        • @praga: Any luck praga?

        • @twodollah: Sorry, I didnt get a chance to call them again.

  • Did anyone else have two new CBA accounts setup in their name unexpectedly? I had a savings and an every day account setup without asking, despite being an existing customer. On that note, their application process is flawed. Realised I uploaded blank documents as pay slips only after completing the application…still got approved for $10k and got my platinum cards in the mail.

    • I had a similar situation where I used my existing netbank login to apply for this offer but upon completion of the application process, they created a new netbank ID for me!! Will have to rectify this when I call to activate my cards. Oh and their customer service line was beyond useless when I tried to get some info on my application.

  • +1

Heads up for anyone wanting to switch back to the CBA Awards after QFF.

Spoke with Awards team on 131 661 today and was told:

    • 40,000 QFF points credited 90 days after the promotion finish so we are looking at end of august/early september
    • Need to remain linked to QFF program until the points are applied. Only then can you transfer back to normal CBA awards program
    • If you have more than one CBA Awards card, CBA can transfer the points between the CBA Awards accounts, so you should be able to transfer the points from your old awards to the platinum awards card (once you have had the bonus QFF points allocated to you and opt to return to the normal CBA Awards program).
  • What a joke, approved for platinum $6000 limit pending documents.
Submitted them all and apparently they don't accept 'scholarships' as income.

So my tax free $26,000 per year uni scholarship is worth nothing in their eyes and subsequently rejected.
Argued with him saying, really - someone employed could be sacked/quit the day after approval and my scholarship is guaranteed til the end of 2016.
Bleh, I was really hoping for those points…

    • Was that your only income? If so, I'm not sure if you're being serious that you wanted a platinum card on $26k a year as a student?

      • No, plus another $17k
Like I said, plat was approved then declined when they found out what the income was from

  • What are the chances of getting the card fees waived for the 2nd year? I switched over a year ago from a CBA no fee CC to HSBC Visa platinum. Points + Insurance are very nice, but I hate the customer service and I would rather earn Qantas points than Asia Miles.

    • +1

From my experience, as long as you spend $10k on the card each year, most companies will waive the fee for each year, except for Amex.

      • ANZ won't waive mine & I spend $3-$10k per month!

      • You are talking about Amex branded cards, and not a CBA Amex? I spend over $10K/year but CBA could not waive the annual fee on any rewards card when I told them I was switching to HSBC.

  • -1

Minimum $10k is what you need to spend, some cards even have this in their t&c

  • Got a regular awards card in the mail after all that hassle. Barstards.

    • +1

Call them and ask if you're eligible for the points. Some people getting Gold cards were.
