This is the Vodafone $50 Red SIM only plan, but costing $35/month indefinitely for a new personal mobile service, if:

  1. You have an existing Vodafone post-paid account; and
  2. You sign up this new service in addition to your existing service(s)

The plan gives you:

You need only commit to one month (ie $35), with no cancellation fee. You get the plan for $35 (discounted from $50) for as long as you keep it connected. Other selected fine print in footnote1.

This flyer came from a Vodafone store2, so suggest you could trek in and visit one if you want to sign up.

This is not the same as this (for business accounts, and discounted only for 12 months); or this (only from selected stores, and discount applies only for 12 months).

  1. Selected fine print: Offer ends 02.06.15 (unless extended). Data for use in Australia. Excludes Business and 24 month plans. For personal use by approved customers. Inclusions expire after 1 month. Offer available to existing Vodafone post-pay customers who sign up to a month-to-month $50 Red SIM Only voice plan or $50 Shared plan. Discount is applied as a recurring monthly credit as long as you remain connected. Min monthly spend is $35. Must connect for a minimum one month.

  • Hey OzB community, I have a question about this deal. Sorry, maybe it is clear to most of you but not to me :(
Do you pay 2 amounts when you first sign up on this deal. Your usual post paid and the red sim only plan?
I already have a Vodafone postpaid paying 40$ a month. Am I going to pay 75$ first month and then can cancel my previous
previous old one($40) and keep the red sim only plan for 35$??? Is this right?
    Thanks guys…

    • +1

Hey mate. You will need to keep your original 40 dollar plan. So you are right in paying 40+35. But if you cancel the original plan you will lose the 30% off

      • Then what is the meaning of paying so much (75$) where is the bargain? That is the point I am missing? (:
        Where is the ozbargain factor.

        • The bargain is that the $50 Sim Only is discounted at 30% to cost you only $35 a month (for as long as you keep connected with Vodafone) for:

300 international minutes to any country (5 hours worth!)
          3GB data
Unlimited national calls (including 1800 and 1300 numbers)
          Unlimited texting worldwide

        • @bubbletea:
Yea but sounds like you cant disconnect from your first service.

    Thanks for the great find..
Just ported over took close to 1 hour and I am up and running.

Is this the best deal under $35?

  • I have two numbers on the same Voda account, one woth $35 and the other with $50 red plan, and just wondering if I could move both of them to this deal or at least the $50 one? Maybe I should ring up and ask..

    • I in a exact same situation !I want to cancel $50 red sim and want to move on to $35 red sim which I got it yesterday.. did u find any solution ?? Please Suggest. Thanks

      • Just spoke to one of their 'higher ranked' reps. The rep I first talked to said that he could not give the deal to me because I need to port in from another provider, so I argued that I can still get it by just porting out and porting it again. He agreed and went to check with his manager. After two minutes he put me through to their 'special' department as he does not have authority to do it.
The lady in the special team I finally spoke to was able to get it applied to my both numbers. So two 50 red plans at $70.

        • LOL "higher ranked" guy was not "special" enough to have authority to do it.

  • So i have a relative that is on the Sim-Only plan on Vodaphone for $30 a month. Whilst I'm on Virgin.
Am i able to change to the $35 plan?

    Thanks

    • Firstly you will have to transfer your Virgin account on to your relative name then your relative have to put through Virgin number port in request to Vodafone in his existing Vodafone Account. i have done the same with my Brother's account who is with Lyca mobile…..

      • Hey Mady.. Is this the only way? My wife is with vodafone and I am with TPG. As you are saying, I have to change owner for my TPG account under her name before I can port over to voda on this deal.. I really dont want to go through hassle of account holder change.

Edit: problem solved. Just checked and found my wife's Vodafone account is also under my name. So i can port my tpg service under my name easy on this plan.

  • Where is the bargain here? What am I missing? Paying $75 for any kind of plan I don't think it is a bargain so what is the trick here that we can do? I am still little lost about the deal/bargain.

    • $35 for::
      unlimited calls within Australia
unlimited SMS to Australian and international numbers
      6 GB of data
300 minutes of calls to any foreign country

      not $75

      • Yes but not as a standalone plan without having an additional service already with Vodafone.

      • But you need to have an existing vodafone plan right, which you already pay for on top of $35?

        • correct!!!!!

      • anyone else managed to get this plan? or will mady123 soon get knocked back by voda for not having a correct deal?

        • I'm about to do it today. Will confirm if i was successful.

  • Hi guys,

Someone mentioned you can get $35 for 50 Red in Sysney airport,is this a standalone plan or similar to OP which I need a original red plan with voda and get the additional one at airport?
Thanks!! Hope someone knows since I'm flying out this week!!!

    • Any more details about Sydney airport deal?

  • I got this with 3GB data on my existing account.

  • if I sign up for a $20 mobile broadband plan (use for iPad) first, then i sing up this deal to ge the discounted monthly fee. In the end of the broadband plan, if i rid of the broand plan, do i still get the discount for $50 Red SIM only plan for the future?

    • +1

Once you disconnect the other service, your 30% discount will also be removed. You will need at least two services connected to have this offer.

  • Well.. finally met a Vodafone Rep at the George Street Sydney Dick Smith.

He said got many calls asking about this other month to month 35 deal… "does not exist"

But he said at DS new customers can also get this deal plus he will give extra 1 GB. So $35 for 4 GB.. month to month price locked for 24 months. SOUNDS GOOD!

  • I managed to get $35 red plan yesterday with my exciting $50 red plan sim( which I am using now ) but they wont port my number to from $50 sim to $35 sim. So I was thinking to just buy cheap sim lebara and port my number to Lebara on cheap sim and the port out of lebara to vodafone $35 red sim .. has anyone done anything like this yet ? Suggestions please

  • I think getting the second SIM is a hassle, I just tether and my ipad is wifi only.

I am staying with my current Vodafone plan, which was offered a few months ago. $50 red SIM only for $45 / month with $5 discount, with 5GB of data (student 1GB bonus, purchase online 1GB bonus) indefinitely.

    • I don't think it's indefinitely. I've got the same plan as well minus the student bonus. You might want to double check your contract as the 1GB student bonus is only valid for 12mths according to the advertising material and the 1GB online bonus is for 24mths.

      Correct me if I'm wrong.

      • Oh, I just assumed it was indefinitely. It is highly likely I will find a better deal within 12 months and switch over, so in my brain 12 months = indefinitely in my world :D

  • So just ported over from Virgin to Vodaphone on the $35 sim-only hassle free via in-store.

Although i do recommend doing it online as they provide an extra 1gb bring the total to 4gb

    http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/sim-cards/sim-only

    • how do you get the $50 plan for $35 online though?

    • i add to cart but it says $50. is there a coupon code or soemthing ?

      • Could probs just call them about the offer

        • so were you able to do it for $35 for 4gb online? or u only got 3gb?

        • @hibijibis: I did mine in store and got $35 for 3gb. Then i saw that if you did it online you could get 4gb instead. So i went back into the store and they applied the extra 1gb.

So in the end i got $35 for 4gb. Really depends on the customer representative you get. I did mine at Eastland - Ringwood. The guy's name was Matt. Hope that helps!

Edit: Can provide a screenshot when they update the details on MyVodafone

        • So do you have just one service? Or two?

        • @clse945111:

Was about to ask the same question.

        • @hibijibis: Not sure if you're still interested. My extra gb was just applied. Now sitting on 4gb

Takes a few days for them to apply it

          http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/115370/30359/untitled.p…

        • @rakkihizoku:
Good to know coz i still don't have it on my metre

        • never mind, saw the answer below.

    • how long did it take you to port?

  • I now have two services with Vodafone. Mine and the other family member

  • +1

I just called 1555 and had all 3 of my existing plans changed to the $50 Red plan for $35, I was on a $49 contract (that just ended) and 2 x $35 Red plans.

  • Just went in store and have:

    a) signed up to a $20 mobile broadband deal
    b) ported over my Aldi mobile prepay to the $35-for-$50 red sim deal
    c) ported over my wife's Telstra postpay to the $35-for-$50 red sim deal

    Points of interest:

    d) our new Vodafone accounts are shared plans (so pooled data and international minutes)
    e) I have been informed that we can cancel the $20 mobile broadband deal at any time (I will do so after the first billing cycle), and given that we will retain 2 other plans, the "indefinite" $35 red sim deals will persist.
    f) I asked if we could get the online bonus 1GB added, but that was declined. No a major loss, between us we don't use more than 2-3GB per month anyway.

Very helpful staff, great customer service (Kotara store, NSW).

Thank you to the OP and everybody who had contributed to this conversation. Very happy with the outcome!

    • I guess if you cancel your "$20 mobile broadband deal" then one of your phone bill will rise to $45/month. So, if you have just 2 numbers, Only the 2nd number is discounted ($35), not both. Please correct me if I am wrong. I went to my local Vodafone store, and this is what they told me.

      • +1

To clarify, I signed up to 3 numbers - one mobile broadband ($20/month), and 2x red 50s (at $35/month).

I asked very specifically if I cancelled the mobile broadband number, would I retain the $15/month discount on the 2x red 50s.

The answer I got was, "Yes…and if there are any problems, we'll fix it."

If the answer turns out to be NO, I loose the discount, and NO, they can't fix it, I'll have to port out (prob yatango) - which would be a pain - so I hope that doesn't happen!

        • I also tried the same.
Singed up for over the phone and they were abe to give 4gb data and indefinite plan period For redsim plans.

I signed up for 3 accounts.

          1 x $20 broadband plan
          2 x $50 red sim plan (30% off)

However I was told that I will lose discount on one of the red sim plans if I cancel the broadband plan. Do anyone have any idea on this?

  • +1

I rang last night and was told to ring them back after 9 this morning to speak to the AUS team. I'm currently spending $30 per month with them and my wife is on $50 pre-pay. I want to move both of us to the $35 discounted plan. If they don't budge, I'll just look at moving to Spintel or Jenee mobile. Based on what I've read here, hopefully they'll give me some sort of deal.

    • In regards to your situation i think that only one of you can switch to the $35 plan. You would have to keep your existing $30 per month and sign your wife onto the same account.

If you wanted to keep the same number for your wife you would need to port the number out and then port back in.

      • +1

Spoke to them Friday afternoon, got the upgrades team and asked them what offers were available to me. He gave me the $50 red sim-only plan with an indefinite 30% discount. I added my wife's service (also in my name) to my plan as a shared option for $30. $65 per month, 2 unlimited services and 4GB data. Very happy with this. Thanks OP!

        • I called them and they cannot apply the extra 1 GB on my account. Did you set it up as a new service or existing service from old service?

        • @Johnster: Mine was a new service (Virgin to Vodafone). But in my case i just had a very nice in-store staff.

  • I managed to transfer into the $50 red sim only m2m plan for $35 but when I view my inclusions in myvodafone I get:
    4GB data (instead of 3GB)
    $550 value (instead of unlimited)
    300 intl minutes.

    • thats weird

    • Thats because it does not reflect completely. You must been on the $35 Sim Only Plan before. So your inclusions before remain the same until the next billing cycle where the old plan will drop off.

  • Yay! I managed to replace my existing Sim only plan with the $35 Red Sim only plan. So no need to get additional sim plan in my account.

    • What were you on before that?

  • Just an update guys that my 6GB was applied on my account yesterday.

    • Are you certain that they haven't put you on a 24 month term? Ad I thought that was the only way to see double data!

      • 100% certain. The promotion offered is for 24 months but there is no contract . I can leave anytime .

        • Thanks! Would you mind sharing the Vodafone link I can refer to, so I can secure double data and 30% discount for life.

        • @GLO: You don't the deal for life. You only get it for 24 months, after that period it goes back to $50 instead of $35

        • @rakkihizoku: EDIT: You don't get the deal for life. You only get it for 24 months, after that period it goes back to $50 instead of $35

  • +1

It's 5gb if you sign up online now.

Month to month with no contracts

    • Did you also get the 30% off?

      • Yep

        • I signed up on the phone today and got it aswell.

        • @chloden: Does the 5gb last for 24 months? After that you go back to 3gb?

    • Could you port your old number to Vodafone?

I have a Virgin mobile and i Have ordered a $35 SIM from vodafone through my newphew. I was told that I can't port my number!!

      • Yes I was able to port my number over

  • I have an existing $50 plan, got it down to $35 easily over the phone after speaking with the retention team, have added another number for the same $35/m, they also offered my an extra 1GB for life + 1GB for a couple of months (i think), however I opted for the shared data and calls option (and had to let the 2gb bonus go as it is a different plan), so now 6GB and 600 international minutes are shared across my two mobile numbers, which I think a pretty good deal.
