come on son, this doesnt belong in a $999 laptop let alone $1,999

  • +1

Those last two are a gen old and really expensive.

An 860M couldnt run a 4k screen in most games too.

    • apparently an 860m and a 960m are basically just rebadges

the 965m is the real deal maxwell

      • There are 2 versions of the 860m, Kepler and Maxwell. Rule of thumb is 4gb is Kepler, 2Gb is Maxwell. Not 100% proven, but have read up on the mobile GPU's.

No idea of 906m, but I would be surprised to hear any of the 9xxm series is still Kepler.

    • -1

It's it's a Maxwell 860M it's virtually identical to a 960M. The only difference is a ~5% clock speed increase - same chip, same architecture, same die size, power usage etc.

    • Mobile gaming is not on par with PC, I play solely on a 1080 laptop.
860m comes in 2 versions, the Kepler is quite decent, my 765m Asus is faster but only due to OC'ing as my tank has a bulky cooling system that works.

Maxwell is more about lower voltages and heat than more grunt, but it does a decent job at both.

  • Nice. Looks like good build.

  • None of these strike me as a bargain.

  • Why would one put before discount prices and not after?

  • So where's the bargain?

  • Www.Techbargains.com has comparable models and including shipping and GST I could do comparable for about 2/3 price

    • the links go to ebay store from newegg

  • No bargain, especially if you compare similar Y40 or Y50 US models for around US$650 (US dollar, though).

    • is warranty worldwide

      • Generally yes

  • Doess it come with Spyware like all their pc/laptop?

    • +1

      That costs extra

  • I had an IBM T40 back in the days… A great long lasting laptop. Top quality but about as expensive as Apple.
    Not sure how Lenovo compares…

    • Interesting…

  • Lenovo is the IBM rebrand following divestment of the retail consumer business from the enterprise business way back in like 2008-10. Lenovo build quality is generally good, X1 carbon being the exception although as a product no one had prior experience so it was to be expected

  • 4GB of ram in an 860M…would the GPU have the power to actually utilize all that RAM? I'm thinking GTA:V in particular.

Also, are the Y50 1080p screens still very poor (as they were with the former 860M models)?

  • Lenovo has just extended GAMEON coupon code until 31 May.
