Pennytel has 8c call cap to about 70 destinations :)

  • -2

    this is $1 = 100 mnts = 1 cent/mnt

    pennytel 8 cnt /mnt = 8x more expensive.

    • are vowels that hard to type?

      • hahaha yeh I agree. Just reading the title, I did not know what 'mnts' was. It is the first time I'd seen minutes abbreviated this way! Mounts? Months? So much ambiguity :P

    • +1

      nope my friend.

      you pay 8c/CALL , not 8c/MIN

      • +1

my mistake, yeah they are cheap then.

    • PennyTel is NOT 8¢ minute, it is 8¢ per call.

  • Haha, the $20 deposit will last almost two years

    • No, the deposit is just that, it is a deposit and it not used for call charges on a day to day basis.

"we debit $20 that is kept as a deposit for any excluded or excess call usage (any international fixed line calls that go either above Included Cap Value or are not classified as an eligible call"

So, if you make an ineligible call, then you might see the deposit go in a flash. The ineligible destinations are the more expensive ones :)

  • With Pennytel Maxotel Mynetfone, you can use any ADSL provider not just TPG

Plus you have to call TPG's gateway so its a local call rate depending on your local call costs (say average 20c)

Calls are in 1 minute increments vs per sec timing.

No big deal but still adds to cost, then you also pay for your local call connection if the call doesnt go thru - ie engaged

The others include some calls to international mobiles while this has none.

And what are the charges outside the cap - if you talk to aunt mabel in WA for 50 minutes it appears this will eat into your cap, so calling fred in the US is now down to 50 minutes not 100 minutes

    • Best set up is use iinetVoIP and route all national calls through that, everything else via PennyTel/MNF etc…

      • why iinetvoip? their cheapest plan is $10/month and no free calls compare than pennytel freedom plan that has $5 monthly fee but u get 80 calls a month and cheaper as well for ausie landline.

        • he must be meaning of iinet naked adsl (it comes with free voip for national calls)

          • @mawinmawin: i believe the modem/ reuter can setup for 1 voip only. except if the other one will be use as soft phone right?

        • Yeah, sorry. iiNet naked adsl with free national calls like mawinmawin said.

Via dial plans, everything goes through iiNet except
          04x.
          0011x.
          13x.

Pennytel App on iPhone is the best though.

Find a free wifi hotspot in another country, (Starbucks), can access Pennytel rates (i.e. 8c to anywhere in Australia). No more crazy international call rates while travelling anymore.

Plus I've jailbreaked my iPhone so I can use Pennytel over mobile data (not as good as wifi though)
