  • Err - the benefits of a large desktop PC are being able to crossfire two top graphics cards, drop in four or five drives, have power to spare for usb accessories and have VGA, DVI display port and USB3 ports in addition to the 8 or so USB 2 ones :-p

Still, have a tick for your work :-)

  • So, is this one on sale? using the "UYWUOYON" code.

I'm worried about the thermal throttling of these Intel Atoms — I know they can get pretty hot even in a 'box' form factor and when you squeeze everything down into a TV stick, the overheating issue can get worse as well.

I haven't tested the Beelink but you are right that some of these boxes do overheat. I experienced it with the VOYO Mini PC and Meegopad T01 - Hoping Beelink have got it right. From personal experience, the MINIX definitely doesn't throttle down and the Ainol Mini PC seems promising from a cooling perspective (I'm thrashing it currently for everyone!)

      • +1

I figured the Voyo would overheat. The insides of the unit looks like this — completely devoid of any heatsinks or ventilation.

in fact the much renowned MK808 Android based TV sticks over heat too, there are a lot of guides and mods floating around the internet showing how to put heatsinks onto the device.

      • Ainol trashing can get messy, be careful!

        • I was waiting for the first pun! Butt seriously…

      • Is that the hole story?

    • Yeah the Dere D35 is on sale too, but unlike this one that has 16GB inbuilt storage instead of 32GB.

  • how does it run Kodi

    • +1

The Z3735F handles Kodi well. It's the same chip in the MINIX Z64 and PiPO X7 so it'll perform essentially the same.

  • Anyone know how much of the 32GB storage would be taken up by the OS?

I'm assuming here that it is the full version of windows, not the RT version. I feel it should be explicitly mentioned if it's RT, although most of the 32GB would be taken up by a full install of Windows 8.1…

Hey guys just so you know these aren't powerful enough to watch HD youtube. And slim designs like this DO overheat and throttle.

Can't even play hearthstone without massive frame drops. This is really only suited to things that have good hardware acceleration, but even internet explorer is very clunky on this processor (but works best out of all the browsers).

I wish that we were at a time where these could be as fast as say a 3Ghz core2duo from 2008, but sadly we aren't anywhere near there yet :<.

      Thanks for this info.

Wait for Broadlake-Y or Skylake-Y for windows on a stick (now known as Intel Compute Sticks)

      http://www.fudzilla.com/news/mobile/37329-intel-compute-stic…

      These will support 4K @ 60Hz

      • Yeh I'm shocked they're using a Core M in a macbook! I guess that means it is going to be quite a step up from these atom chips, they wouldn't use something too crippled in a mac.

        • Core M is basically Broadwell-Y, which is a big step forward compared to these Atoms, Skylake-Y and Broadlake-Y would be one and two generations respectively after Broadwell, so would be a massive step up. That said, they will not be at Atom prices.
