  • Works ok when plugged into the router, but when trying to follow the instructions for wifi connection, after it reboots and I remove the cable, it wont detect the camera. Same thing happens using the windows programs or the android p2pipc. Any idea's?

    • Give it a static IP address..
It's almost definitely getting a different IP address when connecting by WiFi

  • Has anyone been able to get the email and motion detection working?

    • Cant seem to get mine working. I've tried gmail and yahoo. But instruction says to keep trying if it says failed to connect. I'll see if it works tonight. I tried 3 times last night but getting failed connection message.

  • Bought one today, sign said $39, scanned at $29. Yet to set up

  • Still plenty of stock in Stanhope Gardens. If none on the shelves ask the girl at the counter.

  • When I press search I get an IP thing that I can put into Google Chrome and it'll load, but after a couple times the IP changes.
I'll be going on holidays soon and even though there'll always be someone home I'll still like to be able to see what's happening,
So does anyone know of a way I can get the IP address to stop changing?
And plus the iPhone app won't work for me although it works fine on the iPad.
Can anyone suggest an app I can use on the go?
    Thanks in advance.

    • Give the camera a Static IP.
Plus you'll need to turn on DDNS (and possibly port forwarding in your router) to get access to the camera from outside your home network

      • Did some research and spent a couple hours trying to work but I still have no idea how to do it. :(
        Thanks anyway.

        • Static IP is fairly easy.. there will be an option in the camera setup page to do that.. set it to the same address you access it from already..
          DDNS is trickier.

As mentioned u need to give the camera a static ip. When u run SearchTool.exe where it says Network put Fixed IP. And then choose an IP on your router. eg 10.1.1.100 or 192.168.1.100.

Go to Port forwarding on ur router and open up a port. http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/route…. Check to make sure that the port number is not in conflict with commonly used ports eg. especially 80. In SearchTool.exe you the assign the HTTP port value to the same number. You can test this via http://www.canyouseeme.org/

You can get a DDNS free for noip.com and use one of the free hostnames. You end up with something like '"chooseaname"."hostname".net' as the URL that points back to your current ip address. You use Dynamic DNS Update Client (DUC) software from noip.com so that if ur provider reassigns your ip address it will automatically update and thus maintain your current ip address.

You then end up with a URL that looks like '"chooseaname"."hostname".net':"portnumber". This URL will take you to the login of ur camera. Make sure u change ur admin password.

After constant attempts I couldn't get email messaging system. I wrote a script to do the same thing using the same values and it will work. It's also nothing to do with windows or firewall routers (as I disabled both of these) and port forwarding neither.

The camera itself is a rebranded Wanscam (or Foscam) camera. From my research none of the firmware matches any of the models so u can't reflash it. There is mention that one of the Wascam models only works for gmail.

However if u download free ISpy IspyConnect software the camera will work, so will the email messaging and the alerts. Funny enough the only email account that I could get to work is gmail. U can set up forwarding of gmail to any of ur accounts so that u get intruder/motion alert to your associated phone email account. This will send an image of whatever motion it detects to ur phone. Still messing about with settings. Had to change the frame rate stetings for the camera so thar it refreshes at 20fps instead of 2 fps.

The Tiny Cam(?) Baby Monitor app for IOS works and possiblt their other app for cams for Android. I have to turn Audio Gain down to get the image to refresh "nicely". The app is set for Foscam FI8918/W to work. Possibly some of the Wanscam apps will work.

So after too many hours got the thing to work. Hope this helps.

        • @d34nus: love your work. Didn't know about the stuff you mentioned but it gives me a great place to start. Keep posting discoveries as you make them. I really wish there was a step by step guide for each useful feature.

        • @d34nus: I managed to get the app working on my sisters android phone, however I will be doing this tomorrow. :)
          Thank you!

  • Picked up two tonight (Outdoor $39). Will be returning them tomorrow.

According to the box they support Onvif 2.0 protocol, but cannot get them to connect to my Synology NAS surveillance station. To top it off, the GUI is in Chinese, the options to change settings are not there and the claimed 720p is just extrapolated from the 320p resolution. Ugh.

  • Bought an indoor camera and its died after a days use. Will still move and tilt but no picture…

  • Anyone get these cameras to work with the IOS Foscam Pro app?

    • Yeah, they just worked…..

      • What did u do mate?

These can't be beat in the bang for buck stakes. I bought one initially to test out and it exceeded all my expectations even for its original $59 price. I went back and bought three more @ $29 each. Night vision is excellent for 8-10 metres (garage, rumpus, front of house and backyard are where I have mine). Picture quality is great and much better than my old 500TV line analogue cams, resolution of 640 x 480 is perfect for viewing a grid of four in native resolution on 24" PC monitor and more than good enough for table/phone viewing. They work with the free iSpy PC software which does the job perfectly for me, and also work with the free IP Cam Remote Android app which is also perfect for world wide remote viewing on phone/tablet. WiFi is rock solid even at 20m+ and the adjustable pan/tilt make these things invaluable. Since I couldn't run cat5 to three of these locations the con of not being PoE was negated. In time I will probably get a $100+ HD Foscam PoE for the front but for an investment of under 120 bucks for four pan/tilt IP camera's these are amazing.

Still loving my cams after 2+ weeks of use. In fact I just recently realised they have inbuilt speaker and mic, so I have been having some fun with the kids having conversations with them through the cameras. However I have found the first two issues with these. The first is very minor as its to do with the audio not video, but basically after about 2-3 days of being switched on, the inbuilt microphone starts inducing a clicking interference noise on the incoming audio. You are still able to hear normal sound, but the interference is quite annoying. The only way I have found so far to clear the interference is to power off and on the cams and then its fine for a couple days again. The alternative is to use an external mic, but since I only use audio seldom it doesn't worry me too much, but I would be interested to hear whether the genuine Foscam that this is a clone of (FI8918W) has this issue or not. The second issue is also minor IMO, but the cams seem to sometimes reboot themselves. I observed on two of my four cameras that after a few days they were pointing in their default position instead of where I set them. This seemed to happen after a minimum of 3 days or so, but two of the cameras haven't shown this. The good news is the cameras have an option to save a preset position and can be set to automatically go to this position on power on, so this has solved the issue for me. Unless missing one minute of video every 3 days or so is a big problem for you, its not a major issue.

Has anyone tried to load the Foscam FI8918W firmware on these? I am going to try and see what happens. If it bricks it I will return or swap it.

For those following at home, I can answer myself. After doing some reading it seems the occasional reboot issue was/is a part of Foscam IP cameras in general. The issue has been reported with this model (FI8918W), the newer FI8910W and even the higher models worth $150. I also confirmed that those with the real FI8918W get the clicking audio interference issue even on the newest Foscam firmware. So considering the FI8918W was originally US$150 and still sells for US$59, these clones for $29 are still great. PS - If you are interested in better quality daytime picture the newer FI8910W has an IR cut filter which makes daytime colour representation better. They also apparently fixed the audio clicking in that model. However your looking at around $90 and for that money I think the Hikvision cameras are a lot better.

  • I sent back the 6 I bought, junk, poor image, crashed a lot
