Have been on the lookout for a Wireless Solar Powered Security Camera and came across this deal. Have been tossing up between this, TAPO C425 and Reolink Argus 3 Ultra. I personally might go with Reolink but if you want to go with Tapo this is a pretty good deal.

    Is this need subscription?

    • Only if you want to store your footage on the cloud do you need a subscription. Otherwise nope. Just chuck in a 128GB SD card and you should be good.

  • Yes,subscription needed or use your own TF card

  • I have 2 solar powered reolink cameras for couple of years. Recently bought 1 tapo indoor camera and I loved it. The disadvantage with Tapo is no free cloud storage, but I do prefer it's app.
Btw the price is really good.

    • I just use an sd card and hangnit high enough. Works fine. You get a 30 day trial for their cloud when you purchase, seems to be working smooth as well.

    • I also have an indoor camera and it works good but with these outdoor PIR cameras I have been hearing that the motion detection is quite poor and hence leaning more on to Reolink as of now. Which Reolink cameras do you own ? mind giving a short review?

      • I have an older Reolink, the Argus 2. It's motion detection is absolute rubbish unless its positioned in a specific way, which is extremely difficult to work out trial and error and then if it ever moves from a bird knocking it or something its back to square one. Its the only solar cam have. Also got numerous powered Wyze and Tapo cams thare are infinitely better. I'd be curious to know how this Solar Tapo really performs.

        • I think motion detection is a weak point for all PIR camera's irrespective of the brand due to its technical limitation. The only thing we can do as a consumer is to find one which is less worse than the others.

I have Argus 2E and Argus 2. Cannot really compare the motion detection features with Tapo as these 2 are outdoor cameras, but I do received quite a lot false alarm specially on a windy day=_=

        • False alarms would be an improvement for my Argus 2!
