  • cheapest there for the Netgear DGN1000 ADSL2+ wireless N150 modem is $31

    So you're saving around $2.50 then…

  • -3

this modem looks older than me, and im not old.

    • +2

so you're saying it's not that old then? I'm confused….

      • no, im young, modem is old

        • My modem is getting a bit old… Time to upgrade?

        • @jv:
          software upgrade friday my friend
maybe you'll get insane mode 2.0

        • +3

Well then you must be a young toddler. Given this modem first came on the market 5 years ago. It used to retail for $139. It's may be good for people on a tight budget who only need a basic ADSL2+ wireless modem or just need a backup modem.

        • @hollykryten: you think someone over 5 years old is a young toddler?

        • @richieisnow:

You've got it the wrong way around.

  • 150Mbps speeds for solid downloading and streaming!

    lel

    150!

    • +3

True. But i don't think any current broadband connection will max out any where near 150Mbps.

      • +1

This one doesn't have full n capability, it's only draft n. Plus do not believe in 150 Mbps, It's the theoretical maximum under lab conditions(every modem/router is marketed like this). I've owned one since 2011, had a good run for a couple of years.

    • Agree Wireless N 150 and 10/100 is considered an old and slow standard these days.

  • also unit is at least 5yrs old and long time EOL by netgear

cotd must have found a few cartons in the back of their warehouse

    • +2

Yes which is why it's $20.

  • Thanks, got one direct from COTD as I'm subscribed for free delivery.

  • Isn't this the POS that DODO used to bundle as a thrown in modem? I guess its cheap but cheap for a reason.

    • No. DODO gave out the original DGN1000 model. This is actually the much newer DGN1000v3 (upright version) which COTD is shipping. Also the latest firmware update is dated in mid 2014.

  • I was thinking of getting this but I realised that my devices are able to use wireless A/C. Currently using an ancient Thompson ADSL modem/wifi router. Any recommendations?

    • im thinking of getting the ASUS DSL-AC68U, to replace my aging billion 7800n

      • You are still using an aging modem. You must be oooold.

  • +1

Maybe good as a back up modem?

    • +2

Yep i just bought it as a backup modem in case my current D-Link DVA-G3670B modem breaks. I don't need any thing fancy all i do is web browse, gaming and a bit of video streaming.

  • I had an n150 which supports speeds up to 150 Mb/s and my download speed was around 10Mb/s for adsl2+, 500m cable distance from exchange. Upgraded to a "newer" modem of 3 years old which supports speeds of up to 300Mb/s and my speed increased to 16Mb/s. Not sure how it works but I like that speed improvement! This modem could be useful for low usage Internet users.

  • +2

If you buy this modem make sure that you update it to the latest firmware. Older firmware may have issues you never know.

  • +2

I have this modem, avoid it at all cost. The Wifi is not stable and keep drooping off. The modem is okay, but the wifi is so problematic especially when using an Apple product (iphone, ipad, etc). I end up using my extra wireless router as access point and turn off this modem wifi.

I already update it to the latest firmware, still does not solve the problem.

    • +1

I believe there is an issue with apple gear and G/N speeds on wifi. If a device on the network only supports the slower speed it drops everything to G, but the apple devices sometimes don't pick up the change. Try turning wifi on and off, or limiting the connection to N only (or G only if that is the slowest).

    Netgear's N150 Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router DGN1000 review
    http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pc-mac/networking-and-wi-fi…

Maybe a bit old? Even for a backup…

  • Not recommend this, the firmware hasn't update for quite long time, and it has issue with TPG network authentication failure. Also if you have more than 8 devices connected (phone, computer, tablet…) the router is starting drop off quite often.

    • Firmware update for this DGN1000v3 model which COTD is shipping out was released in mid 2014 so a lot of issues would have been fixed through this model. You are missing out on a bargain for around $28 delivered.

  • It is a cheap ADSL2+ modem that you can pair with a kickass WIFI AC router like this one posted a few days ago: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Netgear-R7000-AC1900-Nighthawk-Sm…

Although I bought it in shoppinexpress for 149 last week XD

  • Think of it this way. The ADSL filter that comes in the package would be worth $20 alone at retailers and for an extra $8 or so you also get a brand new wireless ADSL2+ modem. Good value in my opinion.

    • $20 for a filter is a bit rich maybe $10 for a filter.
      Filters

Its good value for a 3rd Gen basic modem/wireless router with average spec if thats what COTD are sending out (It wasnt in the spec as being V3 nor had a photo of the V3).
I don't think it really needs to be justified if your in the market for this sort of device.

      • True. Retailers such as Officeworks, The Good Guys and Harvey Norman do charge about $20 for ADSL filters but i suppose they have quite a bit of markup. Not talking about the cheap and low quality yumcha ones but brand name. Any way even with a filter only worth $10 you're still getting the wireless modem itself for only an extra $18. It may be a good modem for web browsing, video streaming and a bit of gaming.

COTD has the wrong photo and details on their web site. The one i received today from COTD is indeed the V3 model with 2 years warranty. Refer to the third pic which i posted shows the model under the Package Contents.

  • The model shown in the eBay product page picture is the wrong version that's showing the original version which is not that one it's a lot newer model that COTD is shipping out.

Just got my Netgear modem from COTD. And it's not the original DGN1000 model it's the DGN1000v3 (upright version) dated 2013 on the package. So it's a few years newer than the original model and i'd reckon it's true N150. This is the one: http://netgear.com.au/home/products/networking/modem-routers…

The latest firmware for this model is v1.1.00.50 published on 06/16/2014 which is a lot newer firmware than what was for the original DGN1000 model. I'd reckon it's better than the original DGN1000 model.

It does come with the ADSL filter which those are worth about $20 alone in retailers. All this including the modem for around $28 delivered. Bargain. Very nice buy.

I uploaded some photos that i just took as proof.
